Shop recessed ceiling lighting at Lamps Plus: https://www.lampsplus.com/products/recessed-lighting/ There are three parts of recessed lighting: housing, trim, and the bulb. Housing is the main protective structure of the fixture that is hidden in the ceiling. Trim is the molding that covers the ceiling opening around the light. A range of bulb types can be used in recessed lighting tips. There are two basic types of housing. New construction housings are used before the sheet rock or drywall is installed. Shop new construction recessed lighting at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/recessed-lighting/type_new-construction/ Remodel housings are smaller and are used when the ceiling is in place. Shop remodel, recessed lighting at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/recessed-lighting/type_remodel/ Housings also have an IC “Insulation Contact” rating. Be sure your choice will pass the building codes in your area. IC rated housings have a heat shield because they will be in contact with insulation material. Non-IC housings do not have a shield, so they are used in un-insulated ceilings. There are a number of recessed trims. When choosing, make sure it's the same size, brand, and product family. Baffle trim has a ribbed interior that minimizes glare. Reflector trim has a reflective interior to amplify the illumination. Gimbal trims pivot and adjust to focus light where you want it. Good for art and other wall decorations. Wall wash trim uses a scoop to direct and confine light to a specific area of the wall. Lights should be placed 4 to 6 feet apart for general room lighting. For task lighting over counter-tops and other work spaces lights can be closer together, at 1 to 2 feet apart. Lights exposed to water need to be wet rated. Dimmers add extra versatility and ambiance to your system. For LEDs, be sure to use an led compatible dimmer. Convert older recessed to led with retrofit kits. They screw into the bulb socket and are held in place with clips. How to Buy a Chandelier - Buying Guide - Lamps Plus
This video will help you find the right chandelier for your needs. Shop chandeliers at Lamps Plus: https://www.lampsplus.com/products/chandeliers/ To look and function its best, your chandelier needs to be the proper width and height. Here’s how to figure out both: To figure out your chandelier width, measure the length of the room. Next, measure the width. The length of the room plus the width equals the most appropriate chandelier width in inches. For a small room, consider a chandelier size that is 13 to 22 inches wide. Shop small chandeliers at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/chandeliers/[email protected]@@@@[email protected]@@@-wide/ If you have a medium size room, select a chandelier that is 23 to 30 inches wide. Shop medium size chandeliers at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/chandeliers/[email protected]@@@@[email protected]@@@-wide/ And, if you have a large room, look for a chandelier that is 31 inches wide or larger. Find larger chandeliers at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/chandeliers/[email protected]@@@@[email protected]@@-wide-and-up/ The hanging height of your chandelier depends on where it goes. If you’re hanging it above a dining room table, the bottom should be 32 to 34 inches above the tabletop. Lamps Plus has great dining room chandeliers: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/chandeliers/[email protected]/ For chandeliers hung over the open floor, the bottom should be at least seven feet above the floor. Over a kitchen island, a height of 32 to 34 inches over the counter is recommended. The goal is to hang it close enough so that it provides enough light, but not too close so that it gets in the way. Shop kitchen island chandeliers at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/chandeliers/usage_island/ In an open foyer, hang the chandelier at eye level or slightly below when viewed from the second floor. Since it will be viewed from above, it’s a good idea to pick a chandelier that’s attractive from all angles. Our chandeliers usually come with ten-feet of wire and six-feet of chain. These lengths work for most homes and can be customized to your ceiling height. Other chandeliers come with different downrod sizes which can be combined to achieve your ideal hanging height. Most chandeliers can be installed nearly anywhere indoors. But we have a few tips depending on your ceiling type: For low ceilings simply remove most of the chain or use the shortest downrod to install your chandelier. With sloped or vaulted ceilings, gravity will ensure that chandeliers with a chain or a cord will hang straight. Those with a downrod will need a special ceiling mount adapter. If you have extra high ceilings, purchase additional chain or downrods to accommodate your ceiling height. Most chandeliers can be used with a dimmer. If you’re buying an LED chandelier, look for compatible dimmers and bulbs A dimmer lets you easily change the light level from bright to soft. Shop all chandeliers at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/chandeliers/ Now you can choose the perfect chandelier for your space. Thanks for watching. ____

How to Buy A Lamp Shade. Considerations when selecting or replacing a lamp shade. Find a lamp shades for your home at Lamps Plus, https://www.lampsplus.com/lamp-shades/ Here are the steps to buying a new shade. To begin with, if you’re replacing a shade you’ll need a few dimensions: • Top Width • Bottom Width • Slant (if applicable) • Vertical Height If you are looking for a new shade, a good rule of thumb is that the shade should be one-third the overall height. And in general, the width of the shade should be two times the base width. Some terminology is good to know. The Fitter is the wire at the top of the shade that connects it to the lamp body. Most Fitters are not interchangeable, so be sure to use a shade with the correct fitter for your lamp. The Spider is the most common type of fitter for table and floor lamp shades. Spider fitters sit atop the lamp's harp (the u-shaped metal part of a lamp that fits around and protects the light bulb). Clip-on Fitters are available for candelabra bulbs, which are commonly used on chandelier and for regular sized bulbs used on accent and table lamps. The Uno Fitter sits directly on the light bulb socket. This style is most commonly used for specialty lamps. How to Select the Perfect Table Lamp - Lighting Size, Lamp Shade and Light Bulbs - Lamps Plus
Lamps Plus has four general considerations for selecting the perfect table lamp. Ready? Find your perfect table lamp from Lamps Plus here: https://www.lampsplus.com/products/table-lamps/ FIRST, consider the height: To determine the perfect height range, sit in the space next to where you are going to place the lamp. Measure from the surface you are placing the lamp to eye level. This is your base measurement. For example let's use 18". Divide this number by three, which is 6". This is the average height of the shade. SECOND, add the base measurement, 18", to the shade measurement, 6", and this is the height you want the lamp: 24". THIRD, make sure the base of the lamp is weighted to prevent tipping. The lamp shade depends on the use. If you will have the lamp on while watching TV, an opaque shade will minimize lighting glare. A semi-opaque paper shade provides a warm glow for reading. FOURTH, it is time to consider the bulb. If the purpose of the table lamp is for reading, use at least an 8 ½ watt LED bulb (that's comparable to a 60 watt incandescent). For extra flexibility, choose a dimmable bulb. How To Buy A Ceiling Fan - Buying Guide - Lamps Plus
This video will help you determine the right ceiling fan for your needs. To begin, consider the location. Is the fan for indoor or outdoor use? Then you’ll need to decide on the size and controls. Shop ceiling fans at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/ceiling-fans/ If you need an outdoor ceiling fan, here’s how to find the right one for your outdoor space. There are two types of outdoor ceiling fans: Damp Listed and Wet Listed. We suggest a damp listed fan for outdoor areas that are covered and not directly exposed to water. For example, covered patios or covered gazebos. If you are looking for Outdoor Ceiling Fans shop here: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/ceiling-fans/type_outdoor/ Measure Your Room Size To find the right ceiling fan size, you’ll need to know the size of your room. To measure your room, take the Length and multiple by the Width. This is the Room Size, also known as the Square Footage. With the square footage on hand, you can now pick the right fan size. If your room is 75 square feet or less, we recommend going with a fan 44 inches or smaller. Shop 44 inch or smaller ceiling fans at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/ceiling-fans/[email protected]@@-span-or-smaller/ For rooms that are up to 350 square feet, we suggest a fan that’s 48 inches to 58 inches. Shop 60 inch or larger ceiling fans at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/ceiling-fans/[email protected]@@-span-or-larger/ Mounting Downrods and Types To pick the right mounting type and downrod length, you will need to know your ceiling height. Measure from the highest point of the ceiling to the floor. Now, pick the type of fan you need. For low or standard ceilings of nine feet or lower, consider a hugger fan. Hugger, or flushmount, ceiling fans can be mounted directly to the ceiling without a downrod. Shop hugger ceiling fans at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/ceiling-fans/[email protected]/ Low Profile fans can also be used for standard ceiling heights. Low profiles have a dual mount feature which allows you to mount close to the ceiling, or with a downrod. For ceilings higher than nine feet, consider adding a downrod for better airflow. For safety, mount standard blades at least seven feet from the floor, and metal blades at least ten feet from the floor. Ceiling Fan Controls There are three control options for ceiling fans. Pull Chain Shop pull chain ceiling fans at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/ceiling-fans/[email protected]/ Remote Control Shop remote control ceiling fans at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/ceiling-fans/usage_hand-held-remote-control/ Wall Control Shop wall control ceiling fans at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/ceiling-fans/usage_wall-control/ The thing to know is that not all ceiling fans have all three controls. How to Install a Chandelier - Installation Tips from Lamps Plus
Need to install a chandelier? Chandelier installation is easier than you might think! The lighting experts at Lamps Plus offer some basic tips on how to install and wire chandeliers, including chain-hung, cord-hung, and downrod chandelier designs. Browse our collection at https://www.lampsplus.com/products/chandeliers/ Some important disclaimers up front: 1. Make sure you read fully and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for any of these steps and for any electrical connections that are to come. 2. Safety is of top importance when working with electrical connections. Make sure the wall power switch is in the off position and that the power is turned off at the breaker box. Use a voltage meter to double-check. 3. If you are not comfortable working with electrical wiring, we strongly recommend using the services of a licensed, professional electrician. Lamps Plus offers installation service in select areas; contact your local store for details. To get started, let’s look what you get with each hanging system. Chain-hung designs come with chain and electrical wire. And like the other systems, they include a canopy that covers the electrical connections at the ceiling. Test-hang your chandelier and measure how much chain you’ll need. Remove chain links with pliers to shorten to the right length. Thread the wire through the chain to the canopy. Allow for a foot or so of excess and use wire cutters to trim any un-needed length. To install, you’ll thread through the wire through the chain to the canopy. Cord-hung chandeliers or pendants hang from cord. Again, do a test-hang to figure out how much you’ll need and use wire cutters to trim any un-needed length. Downrod chandeliers hang from lengths of hollow tube rods that screw together. You get several lengths of downrod stems. Note that the rods are not cuttable - the entire length of a downrod has to be used. Electrical wire is threaded through the tube to the junction box connection. Again, trim any excess that’s not needed. Some chandeliers or pendants are low voltage designs that use a transformer or driver. The transformer or driver is concealed in the canopy. Run your cord or electrical wire to them and make a connection there. A pre-wired connection is on the transformer or driver that you then connect to the electrical box. Installing a chandelier or pendant requires a ceiling junction box. If you do not have a junction box, or if it is in the wrong position in your room, you’ll have to have a new one installed. Standard junction electrical boxes have a max load of fifty pounds. If your chandelier weighs more than that you’ll need a support safety brace. We carry these if you need one. To do the wiring, make sure the power is disconnected, then remove your old fixture. Unscrew the canopy, and un-do the wiring. There will be three wires: a white, black, and a copper ground wire. Lift the new fixture and screw the mounting bar to the electrical box. Wrap the copper ground wire around the junction box grounding screw, tighten it, then connect the wire's end to the chandelier's ground wire. Then, strip around a half inch of insulation from the white and black wires. Use a twist-on connector to join the chandelier's white wire to the junction box’s white wire. Do the same with the black wire. Carefully tuck the wires into the junction electrical box and secure the canopy. Install any bulbs, then turn the power back on and enjoy! Pulling your sofa out from the wall just a few inches will allow for a slender console table (around 6-8" deep) to slide in. A traditional console table, like these https://www.lampsplus.com/products/tables/[email protected]/, will do the trick. 4. Introduce a Small Desk. A family room often has to double as an office or homework zone. If you're able to float your sofa in the middle of the room (or at the very least, around 60" out from the wall) you can carve out a small workspace behind it with a slender desk and chair. Just try not to get too distracted while working since you'll likely be facing the TV! 5. Go Monochromatic. Keeping your furniture, flooring, and wall color in the same color family helps the eye to move continuously around the space without visual interruptions, creating the illusion of a larger room. Bar Stool Buying Guide - Counter Height and Bar Height Explained
Learn all you need about counter and bar height barstools with this buying guide video from the home decor experts at Lamps Plus. Find your bar or counter stool at https://www.lampsplus.com/products/seating/type_barstools/ The terms "bar stool" and "counter stool" are often used interchangeably, but they are different.   Want to know how to figure out which one is right for you? Counter stool vs bar stool? Get out your tape measure. Bar height stools work great for table surfaces that are 40 to 43 inches from the floor. Counter height stools work well for surfaces 35 to 39 inches from the floor. There are also extra tall designs. If in doubt, consider an adjustable stool which can be raised and lowered as needed. Make sure there's at least 9 to 12 inches of leg room between the seat and the bottom surface of the counter or bar. How many barstools you need depends on your space. For stools 16 to 18 inches wide, allow for 6 inches between each seat. And for stools 18 inches and wider, allow for 8 to 10 inches between each seat.  Some of the most popular stool features include backless styles that tuck away neatly under the counter. Armless designs are easy to get in and out of. Stools with a back provide extra support for extended sitting. Designs with an armrest provide added comfort. And look for swivel stools that offer great maneuverability and ease of access. Small Space Decorating Ideas - How to Decorate a Small Living Room - Lamps Plus
With a few designer tips and tricks, a small space can be just as stylish and functional as one with far more square footage. Here are 5 small space solutions that will help your petite space feel palatial. 1. Choose a limited color palette that's repeated throughout the entire space to create a cohesive look. A monochromatic color scheme (a color palette that features tints and shades of the same base color) will help the eye view the room without interruption and create the illusion of a larger space. 2. Light up dark corners to brighten the room and create the illusion of extra space. Uplights or floor lamps, https://www.lampsplus.com/floor-lamps/, will get the job done quickly and inexpensively. With so many types of floor lamps available, how do you know which one to buy? Well, we have a video for that, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8r7lQCwgBk. 3. While pushing your furniture against all four walls might seem like the logical way to arrange your furniture in a small space, you may want to consider other options. "floating" a piece of furniture (like the sofa or accent chairs) away from the walls may help your room feel more grandiose. 4. A tried and true small space solution, mirrors can visually expand your space to nearly double the size. Place a mirror opposite a window for maximum impact -- it will reflect light and create the illusion of an additional window in the room. Shop decorative mirrors and more on Lamps Plus, https://www.lampsplus.com/mirrors/. 5. For the fifth tip watch the video. Any one of these small space solutions will instantly help your space feel larger. Try implementing as many as possible for maximum design impact! How to Select the Perfect Dining Table - Lamps Plus
Lamps Plus provides you with the best steps to select the perfect dining table. There are a multitude of dining table options out there. How do you know which one to choose? Step 1 Do you host large dinner parties, or small intimate family gatherings? Do you need seating for 12, or for 4? Do you want the flexibility of a table with leaves to add additional seating? Think through how you plan to use your dining table and determine your basic needs. Step 2 Ideally, there should be at least 36 inches of space around your dining table to allow for people to pass by, and for chairs to be pulled in and out. A quick measurement of your dining room will give you a rough idea of the best table size for your space. Step 3 If your room is square, you may want to choose a round table. A long and narrow room is better suited for a rectangular or oval table. Round dining tables vary from about 48” in diameter, which can seat 4-6 people, to 96”, which will seat 10-12. Rectangular dining tables are typically 36” wide. A 48” long table will seat 4, a 60” long table will seat 4-6, and a 78” long table will seat 6-8. Now that you've determined the best shape and size for your dining table, it's time to think about finishes! Step 4 A glass and chrome dining table is well suited for contemporary homes. Wood tables with refined design are classic and suit a multitude of decor styles. And if your home is more eclectic consider tables with unique finishes like mirror or rustic wood and metal. And there you have our tips for selecting the perfect dining table. Now you can shop for the perfect dining table on Lamps Plus, https://www.lampsplus.com/products/tables/type_dining-tables/ If you found this video useful, subscribe to our channel for more. LED Lighting Explained, Lumens, Color Temperature, and More - by Lamps Plus
LED Lighting Ideas & LED Buying Basics from Lamps Plus. LED Lighting is revolutionizing lighting for energy efficient homes. Shop LEDs at Lamps Plus, https://www.lampsplus.com/products/type_led/ Lighting using LEDs, Light Emitting Diodes, are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and uses. When built into a design, integrated arrays of small LEDs allow for innovative shapes. LEDs are cool to the touch. Up to 10 times more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs and last up to 25 times longer. When shopping for LEDs here are a few things to keep in mind. We used to look at the bulb wattage to determine the brightness of a light source. Now we look at lumens. With LEDs the same amount of light, or lumens, can be produced with far fewer watts. Also consider color temperature. This is a standard measurement of a light's appearance—generally referred to as the "warm" or "cool" look of a light. CRI, or Color Rendering Index, shows how color looks under a light source. The higher the CRI the better. LEDs can be used anywhere, but there are a couple of places where they really outshines all the rest: LED desk lamps offer a bright, clear light. Shop LED desk lamps at Lamps Plus, https://www.lampsplus.com/products/desk-lamps/type_led/ Look for designs with variable color temperature to help reduce eye fatigue. LEDs offer a long lifespan which means fewer bulb changes in those hard-to-reach places. Shop LED chandeliers at Lamps Plus, https://www.lampsplus.com/products/chandeliers/type_led/ When using a dimmer with LEDs look for compatible dimmers and energy efficient light bulbs. The Lamps Plus Lighting Warehouse and Fulfillment Center Story
Make home a bright spot with Lamps Plus, We’ve been inventing and innovating great lighting and decor for over 40 years. https://www.lampsplus.com/ But innovation goes beyond what we design and sell. We’re constantly innovating at our massive fulfillment center in Redlands, California, too. This place is big…...really big, with two facilities employing over 300 people 7 days a week, spanning more than 8-hundred and 57-thousand square feet. With a space that large, we work hard to make it as green as possible. So we rely on natural lighting. And where that doesn't suffice, we’re converting to motion operated LEDs. Of course we recycle too. All cardboard and foam is compressed and shipped off to be transformed into brand-new packaging and products. And we disassemble all damaged and unusable merchandise by hand, because each item recycled is one less in the landfill. From our center we ship everything, from small replacement parts to giant chandeliers. Proprietary technology and - most importantly - great people allow us to move these packages fast. All in-stock and ready to ship across town – or across the country – at a moment's notice. Arranging books by color brings order and harmony to an otherwise chaotic collection. For an even more orderly look, take it one step further and arrange by size as well. Leave Some Space. A little breathing room on a shelf is a good thing. To get an expertly styled look, leave a little room between groupings of books. This also allows you to add more touches later. Go Horizontal. Mixing vertical rows with horizontal stacks of books adds visual interest and a dose of personality. Horizontal stacks also provide a great platform to accessorize on. Accessorize. Bookshelves aren’t just for books! Accessories like boxes, photo frames, and decorative objects elevate a basic bookcase into a designer display. Your books have never looked better! Shop Lamps Plus for home accessories, http://www.lampsplus.com/home-decor/home-accessories/ Finish with Lighting. Picture lights, http://www.lampsplus.com/products/picture-lights/, mounted on top of the bookshelf are a classic way to highlight your beautifully arranged book collection. Or if that’s not an option, position a floor or table lamp to shine on your shelves. Use these 5 tips and you’re all set to create a chic shelving display in your home. Easy Crystal Chandelier Cleaning Tips - Lamps Plus
The Lamps Plus experts share how to clean a chandelier in an easy and straight forward manner. Is your chandelier shining its brightest? If not, this video will show you how quick and easy steps to clean you crystal chandelier. Most cleanings are a DIY job, but if your chandelier fixture is installed in a high ceiling or is very complex, you might want to call a professional cleaning service. Taking all crystal and glass off is a more complete cleaning process, allowing you to reach each nook and cranny of the frame. Leaving the crystal or glass attached is a much faster process. Never twirl or rotate your crystal chandelier. Walk or move your ladder around the chandelier and clean in sections. By rotating a chandelier, you risk loosening its support. If the chandelier is difficult to reach, you should replace the bulbs while you’re at it. Prepare a cleaning solution of one part isopropyl alcohol to four parts distilled water in a spray bottle. Spray a small amount of the solution on a white cotton glove or lint free cloth. Wipe the crystal or glass with the damp cloth, and then dry it immediately with another glove or cloth. For chandeliers with more dirt and grime build-up, you can also try hand-washing the glass in lukewarm sudsy water, using a mild dish soap. With 1000s of chandeliers in every style and size, from contemporary looks to classic crystal chandelier designs, shop Lamps Plus for top quality brands , https://www.lampsplus.com/chandeliers/ For more chandelier tips and ideas, head to https://www.lampsplus.com/ideas-and-advice/category/chandeliers/ ____

Make the Switch to LED Bulbs - 4 Easy Tips from Lamps Plus
Making the switch to LED bulbs in your home doesn't need to be overwhelming -- let the pros at Lamps Plus show you how easy it can be. Find the right LED bulb for you at https://www.lampsplus.com/products/light-bulbs/type_led/ We’re often asked, “what are the best LED bulbs for my fixture or lamp”. The answer is pretty simple! If you have an old bulb that you want to replace, just look for an LED version with the same bulb base. To get the same amount of light old bulb vs new, you’ll want to see the replacement wattage and lumens rating for the new LED bulb. For example, this LED uses only 7 watts, but it has a light output of 2000 lumens, making it a replacement for this old 75 watt regular incandescent bulb. In fact, LEDs use so little energy that you can easily trade up if you want more light. Just make sure your new LED bulb is under the maximum wattage your fixture or lamp can use. LEDs are decorative, too! New LED filament bulbs reproduce the look of old-fashioned decorative Edison bulbs. For dimmers, know that an LED bulb will work with a dimmer switch only if it explicitly says so, and if the dimmer is LED compatible. Older dimmers will not operate properly with LED bulbs. So, what bulbs should you start with? Well, since LEDs last for years, they are a great choice for hard-to-reach fixtures, like entryway chandeliers, outdoor lights, or ceiling lights. Any light or fixture that’s in constant use is also a great choice for LED replacement. Desk lamps, office lighting, and kitchen lights all come to mind. We’re here to help if you have any questions about LEDs. Thanks for watching! ____

This video will help determine the right chandelier hanging height. Shop chandeliers at Lamps Plus: https://www.lampsplus.com/products/chandeliers/ The hanging height of your chandelier depends on where it goes. Classic Home Decor Patterns and Prints
Classic prints and patterns may be recognizable, but do you know the proper names? Brody Hutzler from Lamps Plus is here with 5 must-know classic patterns and prints to expand your design vocabulary. CHEVRON: A chevron is simply an inverted v-shaped pattern. It's a design that's been around for centuries, found in designs on rock carvings and ancient pottery. It's also commonly referred to as "zigzag". DAMASK: Traditionally, damask is a reversible fabric, woven with both shiny and matte threads to create subtle highlights in the fabric by reflecting light differently. Today, damask tends to refer to the surface pattern itself, and not the weaving technique. HOUNDSTOOTH: Houndstooth is a two-tone pattern formed of broken checks or abstract four-pointed shapes. It originated in woven wool fabrics in the Scottish lowlands. QUATREFOIL: Literally meaning "four leaves", a quatrefoil is a decorative shape formed by partly overlapping four circles of the same diameter. TRELLIS: Traditionally, a trellis is an interwoven architectural structure formed of wood or metal to support climbing plants in a garden. Modern trellis patterns are inspired by these classic garden accents. Find all of these patterns and more on home textiles (http://www.lampsplus.com/home-textiles/), plush ottomans (http://www.lampsplus.com/products/seating/type_ottomans/finish_fabric/[email protected]/) and wall mirrors (http://www.lampsplus.com/products/mirrors/style_accent/type_wall-mirrors/).
