How To Market Your Wedding Photography Business For Free

***Interested in having me as your wedding photography coach for 8 weeks? Attend my next live, free masterclass and find out how we can work together and help you fast track your success in wedding photography. Click the link below to register.*** https://www.weddingphotographycoaching.com/ ----- ***5 ways to get free wedding photography marketing for your business that will pay dividends for years to come.*** ***OVERVIEW*** Being able to take gorgeous photos is an essential part of being a successful wedding photographer. But it means nothing if you can’t get those images and your brand to prospective brides and grooms. Too often we spend a lot of time and money focusing on the photography side of our business and forget about the importance of marketing and advertising. Prospective couples are going to want to see your work multiple times and through different avenues before they book you. In this video, I’m going to share your five ways to get free wedding photography marketing for your business that you can start doing right now. And the best part about these marketing strategies is that they will pay dividends for years to come. Firstly, you need to have a professional website that’s aesthetically pleasing, easy to navigate and fits your brand and style. Unless you’re a seasoned web developer, this is probably going to require some kind of upfront investment. But once you’re up and running, maintaining your website and ensuring it’s speaking to the right clientele is something that you can do for free. The analytics from your website is also a powerful tool in understanding how clients are accessing your website, how long they’re staying and which pages are making the most impact. Tied in with your website is my second free way to market your wedding photography business and that’s through SEO. Having your website Search Engine Optimized means that prospective clients are going to find you when searching specific keywords and through the “Map Pack”. When it comes to SEO, you are going to have to invest your time implementing it into blog posts, image alt tags and descriptions, as well as the metadata for your pages. But once it’s there, you’ll reap the rewards for years to come. Thirdly, in this day and age, we can’t talk about marketing without considering social media, which is the preferred way for many to share information and find recommendations. Instagram is currently the platform of choice for most brides and grooms but I also tie this in with my Facebook fan page so I can access the data about who’s visiting my profile. Another powerful wedding photography marketing tool that won’t cost you a thing is reviews and, more specifically, quality, recent reviews. Praise from past clients can be the catalyst for convincing prospective clients to book you, giving them peace of mind that you will deliver what you say you will. A quick Google search shows that wedding resource websites like Wedding Wire and the Knot almost always appear on the first page of results, so having a presence here can work wonders. Kindly ask your clients to write a review after you deliver the images or albums and, provided you’ve offered excellent customer service, most will be more than willing to oblige. Finally, don’t underestimate the value of your fellow wedding vendors and venues in getting your name out there. If you leave a good impression on them, tag them in online images or put together galleries specifically for them, they’re more likely to recommend you to their clients. You might connect with them at networking events or even plan a stylised shoot together and it’s through these working relationships that you can potentially get free referrals that can translate into bookings. It’s important to mention that you don’t have to work on all five ways to get free wedding photography marketing for your business at once. Just start with implementing one or two into your workflow at a time and see what works best for you. ***USEFUL LINKS*** ***Watch my exclusive, free training video where I share with you 10 of my best wedding day photography tips.*** https://www.successinweddingphotography.com/p/htpaw ----- ***Check out my toolbox of all the gear and software I use in my business.*** https://www.successinweddingphotography.com/pages/toolbox ----- ***Subscribe and listen to my wedding photography podcast, new episodes every Thursday.*** http://www.weddingphotographypodcast.com

I share with you the bodies and lenses that I prefer and why I choose these tools to get the job done. I’ve been a Canon person since I started out in wedding photography around a decade ago and have found their equipment to be both durable and reliable - two essential criteria in my opinion. I have selected my gear because it produces the best images possible, as well as fitting in with the style of weddings I shoot. For every wedding or e-session I shoot, I have two Canon 5D Mark III bodies on me, one with a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L series lens and the other with a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L series zoom lens. The 24-70mm is responsible for around 75-80% of the shots I get, offering a versatile range that allows me to quickly respond to changing situations and lighting conditions. The 70-200mm is ideal for capturing candid reactions and moments from afar, particularly in venues (such as churches) where photographers are limited as to where they can go. I think it’s worth investing a little more for the f/2.8 (rather than the f/4), particularly when it comes to low-light situations. My gear setup is completed by a Canon 100mm 2.8L IS macro lens, which I use for a wedding ring and other details shots, as well as a Canon 85mm f/1.2. The quality of the 85mm is second-to-none, offering a shallow depth of field and bokeh that I love for capturing bride portraits after getting ready. Both of these lenses also serve as a backup to the 70-200mm in the unexpected event that it breaks or is stolen. This wedding photography camera and lens gear setup has stayed the same for most of my career and traveled with me across the world, enduring demanding situations and extreme weather conditions that are a testament to their durability. While my bodies and lenses regularly undergo maintenance, their reliability gives me little reason to be changing anytime soon. Wedding Photography Poses Ideas For Couples

You’re short on time, family and friends are watching on intently and suddenly you have a blank about how to pose your bride and groom. In this video, I’m going to share with you 5 wedding photography poses that I’ve used throughout my career to add to your arsenal. They include both classic couple portrait poses with a modern twist, as well as a few more dynamic and creative shots. While most you’ll be able to apply to any wedding couple or even engagement sessions, I’ve also thrown in one slightly more ambitious portrait that you’ll have to make your own judgments on, depending on the situation. The first of my wedding photography poses for couple portraits is an intimate face-to-face, with perhaps the couple’s noses touching or some flirtatious talking with the eyes. I always ask my brides and grooms to be doing something with their hands, whether it be around one another’s waists, cradling their loved one’s face or in the pockets when it comes to the groom. Secondly, I like to get a shot of the bride leading the groom along with a walkway or path, with this free-flowing portrait having a sense of movement and a carefree nature. The couple can be looking at one another or you can have one looking towards the camera if you want to add some variation. I also love to get that traditional “prom pose” but with a creative twist, having the groom embracing his bride cozily from behind and leaning in to kiss her on the cheek or forehead. You can also pose this the other way around, with the bride hugging her groom who might be holding her bouquet for something different. Another dynamic pose for wedding photography couple portraits that I capture is having the couple walking next to one another hand-in-hand. Ask them to walk with a sense of intention as they’re chatting about their upcoming honeymoon or with anticipation for their reception to start, which gives the portrait energy and life. Finally, if your bride’s dress allows it and the couple is comfortable attempting it, you can be ambitious and grab some kind of lift. I like to either have the groom cradling the bride with his arm behind her back and under her legs or have the bride leap into his arms. In the second scenario, his arms will be under her behind and her arms around his neck and you can ask them to hold an extra long kiss for you to capture. This pose is ideal if you’ve got a dramatic backdrop to work with, like a vineyard sprawling behind or the sun sinking below the horizon. Each of these five wedding photography poses for couple portraits can be captured in a range of shots, including half-body and full-body using both telephoto and wide-angle lenses. You can also get creative and come up with your own variations of each, ensuring you’re never left wondering “what should I do next” when the pressure’s on during a couple portrait session. How To Become A Wedding Photographer Part 2

***Interested in having me as your wedding photography coach for 8 weeks? Attend my next live, free masterclass and find out how we can work together and help you fast track your success in wedding photography. Click the link below to register.*** https://www.weddingphotographycoaching.com/ ----- ***Tips and insights on the first steps of how to become a wedding photographer and starting your business from scratch.*** ***OVERVIEW*** In this second of a five-part video series about how to become a wedding photographer, we’re going to talk about the first of three phases you need to consider when starting a business from scratch. I’m also going to share with you my A to Z of wedding photography and the eight things you need to have in your arsenal to create a successful business. There are three essential things you need to get going with a wedding photography business - photographs, a website, and marketing. Wedding photography is all about capturing beautiful photographs that appeal to a certain clientele, then getting them online, and marketing them to prospective couples. Firstly, you need to be competent at taking technically sound photos and know the ins and outs of your equipment. You should purchase the best equipment that you can afford, then work hard at honing not only your shooting but also your editing skills. Find opportunities to second shoot to learn from professional wedding photographers in the game and use their influence to develop a photographic style that is completely your own. Secondly, you need to have a visually appealing website that will make an impact on visitors within their first few seconds of viewing. If you don’t have the time or skills to create a website, consider hiring a website developer or even a branding developer to get it right. Then use your website to highlight the best images you have (and get a professional to critique your work), as well as adding in pages about you, your vision as a wedding photographer, pricing, FAQs, and a contact page. Lastly, you need to market your business and this is where a lot of new wedding photographers struggle. It’s not just about putting images online and waiting for the bookings to roll in, but actively getting your name out there through second shooting opportunities, stylized shoots, and networking through friends and family. You need to be active on social media through Facebook and Instagram, sharing not only your wedding photography images but also a more personal side of you. Knowing how to become a wedding photographer might sound easy at first but it requires you to multitask and be competent across a range of different skill areas. It’s what’s going to make you stand out from the next wedding photographer and create a successful business in the long term.

Wedding Photography Second Shooters... What do I look for?

12:16
Wedding Second Shooting... What Do I Look For? Common sense ideas and thoughts. Second shooting is a great way to learn, and get comfortable with the stress level of photographing one of the most important days in a couples life. I highly recommend that new photographers second shoot for a couple of seasons before approaching the responsibilities of taking on a wedding on their own. I've been a wedding photographer for 20+ years photographing the smallest weddings imaginable in the early part of my career and evolving into being one of the most celebrating wedding photographers in the world photographing weddings and events for Presidents, celebrities, and business leaders... So, I have a lot of insight and knowledge to share. I was posed the question here on YouTube... What do I look for in terms of an assistant or a second shooter at weddings and events? So, I thought I would take a moment and share some common sense thoughts and ideas. I've trained a core group of individuals, some of which are family, who are incredibly reliable so I rarely reach outside my core group. However, I do know what I look for and expect from those who work alongside me, and that is common sense... The problem is that common sense isn't all that common these days. So, I put together a few simple ideas to put into consideration. Having gotten the question just prior to leaving for WPPI, The Wedding and Portrait Photographers International Conference, I also posed the question to a few other photographers and got some stories and thoughts from others who do often hire second shooters for weddings and events. So, I hope this little post gives a touch of insight from the studio owners or lead photographers perspective, and helps to answer the question... What do I look for in a second shooter for wedding photography... Cheers... How to Direct your Couples for Candid Photos | Behind the Scenes with Becca

23:50
This is a full behind the scenes video with Becca Cannon! I had Kidron come a long on a very real photo shoot with me to film all the fun prompts and poses I have my couples do. This session was very unique because I had never met my couple before this session so I didn't have much of a chance to get to know them before hand. However, before and during the session I wanted to get to know them a little bit to help make the session more comfortable. One of the best ways to make them feel comfortable is by a lot of direction in the photos. And this is what the video is for! You can see how I am constantly giving them direction and positive encouragement to reassure them they're doing an amazing job! So if you need inspiration on how to get these natural reactions and to really see their personality come out in the photos then you will definitely enjoy this video! ***So many are asking what cameras and lenses I'm using! How To Become A Wedding Photographer Part 4

***Interested in having me as your wedding photography coach for 8 weeks? Attend my next live, free masterclass and find out how we can work together and help you fast track your success in wedding photography. Click the link below to register.*** https://www.weddingphotographycoaching.com/ ----- ***OVERVIEW*** So you’ve established your wedding photography business and have started shooting weddings, but can you sustain this level of success consistently on a monthly or annual basis? In this fourth episode of my five-part video series about how to become a wedding photographer, we’ll chat about the eight different elements that are needed to sustain a successful wedding photography business. The first thing that’s essential is photo skills and establishing a consistent look, style and feel to your images, as well as capturing those signature shots that separate you from your competition. It’s also vital that you have consistency in your branding, from your website to your social media posts and your personality. We’ll also chat about the importance of consistently marketing your business by selecting a handful of techniques and implementing strategies for all of them. It goes without saying that you need to offer an exceptional client experience but you should always be thinking about what else you can do for your brides and grooms so that they’re raving about you to family and friends. When it comes to the wedding day itself, you need to be consistent in how you interact with people and be able to take on new challenges, as well as identify the areas that you need to improve on before the next wedding. At the end of the day, the success of your business ultimately comes down to finances, so keeping track of your earnings and expenses is essential to be able to determine whether you can truly count your business as a “success”. In sustaining a level of success in your wedding photography business, it’s also important that you stay on top of the latest trends and constantly look to improve yourself through continuing education. Take the time to assess whether you’re achieving the goals you set and think critically when things don’t go as planned while always knowing what’s the next step you need to take in your business. ***USEFUL LINKS*** ***Watch my exclusive, free training video where I share with you 10 of my best wedding day photography tips.*** https://www.successinweddingphotography.com/p/htpaw ----- ***Check out my toolbox of all the gear and software I use in my business.*** https://www.successinweddingphotography.com/pages/toolbox ----- ***Subscribe and listen to my wedding photography podcast, new episodes every Thursday.*** http://www.weddingphotographypodcast.com ***In video four of a five-part series about how to become a wedding photographer, we’ll discuss what’s required to sustain a successful business for many years.***

Prime or zoom lenses for wedding photography?

15:23
***Interested in having me as your wedding photography coach for 8 weeks? Attend my next live, free masterclass and find out how we can work together and help you fast track your success in wedding photography. Click the link below to register.*** https://www.weddingphotographycoaching.com/ ----- ***A look at some of the pros and cons of prime vs zoom lens and how to make a decision about what’s right for you and your wedding photography business.*** ***OVERVIEW*** It’s one of the biggest debates when it comes to wedding photography gear - should you shoot with prime or zoom lenses? The simple answer is, why not use both! But in this video, we’ll delve a little deeper to look at the pros and cons of the prime vs zoom lens debate and how to make a decision about which one is right for you and your wedding photography business. I’ll share with you three things you should take into account when deciding which lenses to add to your equipment list. Firstly, what is your style of photography? Are you into natural lighting or prefer a more dramatic, editorial look? Secondly, which photos do you prefer to shoot on the wedding day - candids, portraits or details And lastly, what type of weddings do you tend to capture? Are they action-packed multicultural weddings where there’s no downtime or more intimate, laid-back weddings? Each of these three criteria will help to determine whether prime or zoom lenses are right for you. Depending on your answers to these questions (and what couples are hiring you for), you can determine the importance of having varied focal lengths and different apertures that allow you to capture the style of weddings and photographs that you want. When it comes to the pros and cons of prime vs zoom lenses, does the ability to have variable focal lengths on a zoom lens (and not needing to constantly change lenses throughout the day) outweigh the sharper colors, low light performance and lighter weight of a prime lens? I’ll also share with you how using prime lenses helped me to discover my own creative flair, which I later applied to using zoom lenses. At the end of the day, it’s about finding the balance of things that work for you and there’s nothing wrong with having the best of both worlds. Personally, I prefer the flexibility of working with zooms for catching the fast-paced weddings I often shoot but also love to have primes on hand to capture those gorgeous details shots and bridal portraits.
