George Condo Interview: The Way I Think
George Condo was part of the 1980s wild art scene in New York. In this video, recorded in his New York-studio, the iconic artist shares his life-long love of drawing and thoughts on his artistic expression, which he describes as “artificial realism.” ”I kind of draw like you’re walking through the forest, where you don’t really know where you’re going, and you just start from some point and randomly travel through the paper until you get to a place where you finally reach your destination.” Condo studied music theory at college, but soon realised that it was too formal and rigid for him, and that he needed an art form that would give him more freedom. However, he still approaches his art like a musician, working fast and following the rhythm of the drawing or painting without “missing any of the notes.” The tempo, he feels, is very important when it comes to art. Condo wants his work to contain clear references to the different artists – from Picasso to Velasquez – they’re inspired by, but with a twist. His painting or drawings are about finding a way in which one can capture a person’s humanity through a portrait – capturing not just the outside but also the inside. Moreover, Condo aims to “turn negatives into positives”, portraying “the ordinary characters that make up our lives, whether it’s the janitor or the bus driver or the school teacher or the principal or the mailman or the truck driver. These are not the glamorous people that you see on the cover of Vogue Magazine, but they are what the world is composed of. And to give them a spot in the world is what I always admired about Rembrandt to a certain degree…” “I love drawing as much as painting, so why not make your paintings from your drawings, but literally have there be no defined sort of hierarchy between the two mediums?” Condo started making “drawing-paintings”, where you can’t distinguish e.g. paint from pastel, or a line made with a paintbrush or a line drawn in from and thus making the two mediums equal: “There’s no real difference between figurative painting or abstract painting, ‘cause it’s all painting to begin with… You don't’ have to follow any rules as a painter. If you’re making an abstract painting it doesn't mean eventually it can’t morph into a figurative one.” When a famous art historian asked Condo what he called the form of work he did, Condo thought of the description “artificial realism”. Artificial realism gives the painter the opportunity to go back and paint something in a realistic way while still portraying all that which is artificial in our world. In continuation of this, he finds that now everything seems to be “artificial realism” with the fake news that is all around us: “Art is the truth, and everything else is a lie.” George Condo (b. 1957) is an American contemporary visual artist working in the mediums of painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. Condo mixes input from art history’s masters – such as Velasquez, Manet and Picasso – with elements of American Pop Art. He distorts and renews this material so that it stands out and becomes his own: a kind of strange hybrid that blurs boundaries between the comic and the tragic, the grotesque and the beautiful, the classic and the innovative. As part of the wild art scene in New York in the early 1980s, Condo was close to painters such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, and worked for Andy Warhol’s Factory, applying diamond dust to silkscreen. Condo’s work is in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Whitney Museum, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Broad Foundation in Los Angeles, Tate Gallery in London, Centre George Pompidou in Paris and Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art in Oslo, among others. He is the recipient of an Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters (1999) and the Francis J. Greenberger Award (2005). Condo lives and works in New York City. George Condo was interviewed by Kasper Bech Dyg at his studio in Soho, New York City in September 2017. A Martial Life: A Martial Arts Documentary #7 - Tom Callos
In a Martial Life #7, Don Franks visits Infinite Jiu JItsu in Rocklin California. Professor Gustavo is the head instructor and owner of the Brazilian Jiu JItsu gym. Don brought his friends and teachers, Sensei's Darlynson Lira, Damokles Lira and Carlos Rocha. Tom Callos also joined the group and speaks about the Ultimate Black Belt and it's meaning. Darcio Lira Jiu Jiu JItsu http://www.darciolirajiujitsu.com A Martial Life http://www.amartiallife.com Episode #7 http://youtu.be/RvGUO4n004Y The UBBT's Curriculum - From Tom Callos The "ultimate" test is one that challenges the person taking the test --in ways that are important, empowering, significantly beneficial, and meaningful, to THEM. The ultimate test isn't, I think, a test of all the things someone is excellent at, things that aren't genuinely challenging, but is made up of things that are, perhaps, just beyond (or way beyond) the tester's comfort zone and current level of skill. Furthermore, the ultimate test for a 24 year old in his or her youthful prime, wouldn't necessarily be the ultimate test for the 50, 60, or 70 year old. The concept of The Ultimate Black Belt Test that you, or anyone, can take home, right now, is that every black belt test could --and I think, should --be designed for the individual taking the test, so that it's not just about the physical skills developed and hardship someone has endured to reach a "black belt" level of skill, but is also a life-affirming and spiritually empowering milestone, on any and all levels we might haver the intelligence, creativity, and wherewithal to cultivate as teachers and guides. About the UBBT The Ultimate Black Belt Test (http://www.ultimateblackbelttest.com) is an advanced training program for high ranking martial arts instructors, designed by Tom Callos ofhttp://http://www.tomcallos.com. Support Creative Life Magazine & Help students passion for the Arts
"Creative Life" Magazine is a Indianapolis based organization and will feature articles, stories, art, poetry, music and more about the inspiring talent shared within schools across the city. Our goal, is to focus our efforts on retrieving news about our young growing and very talented generation. There is story to be read, a picture to be taken, a voice to be heard, a dancer to been seen, and a work of art needing to be shared not just within the school of the artist, but other schools across the city. I want to bring their ways of the arts out of their schools, and to be shared with the rest of the world. Creative Life is a quarterly issued magazine that will feature many different aspects in the art community. It will provide access to local talent. It will provide an outreach on performing art venues that schools will host. It will have an area of input where a discussion forum will share the opinions, values, and ideas of others. The articles will cover a wide array of many topics. What would it be like to read about another schools Performing Arts Club, or to see different photographic themes from multiple proms? How would you view the world from an artist that creates Modern Art versus Contemporary Art? Where would you go to see a city of young poets come together and find their work all shared in one place? That is "Creative Life" and that is the reward I want to share with my viewers. Creative Life will also have a section for a reader to write, draw, paint, and do anything the imagination will let them do. Once done, they can send their work to us and we will feature it in the next issue. Creative Life Magazine will be distributed to local area middle and high schools both public and private. Then to the local populace and everywhere it can sell. Most of the articles will feature stories and events within these schools and also local performing and creative venues that the city will have to offer. With all the talent to be discovered out there, this magazine won't be a small newsletter and there will surely be plenty to read about. We definitely don't want to stop here. So eventually we will be looking for others in different cities who might want to bring Creative Life to their city. The funds will go towards the cost of printing, distribution, and hiring staff such as photographers and journalist. To make Creative Life even more in touch with what it does, some staff members will include students within their own schools for a more knowledgeable access to what their school has to offer. We hope to print 1,000 copies for the first issue while working with a few school we already have lined up. Granted summer vacation is coming up, but the arts doesn't take a summer break. There will still be plenty of work to do, events to cover during the summer months, and the fall will be here before we know it. This magazine will provide many rewards, so the dreams of others can and will be shared with every student who has a passion for stirring the soul. Creative Life Magazine has a motto and a motto that I want to share for our viewers to hopefully relate to.... "Inspiration is the key to individuality, so follow the path the makes you true and endless possibilities you can do." Be Well, Be Happy, and Be Inspired, The Creative Life Team Visit the site to watch the video and give support and share these link with others. http://www.kickstarter.com/e/9t89d/projects/creativelifemag/creative-life-magazine-the-magazine-for-the-creati or http://kck.st/bAE0lS

Easy life hacks to speed up your beauty routine and make you look perfect every day 1. Insane hacks for your smile Here are some alternative ways to clean your teeth. These natural homemade recipes work magic and won't cost much. - Strawberry is a great berry that is not only delicious, but will help you to whiten your teeth. Mix one strawberry with some toothpaste to get white teeth and fresh breath. - Don't like strawberries? Mix some fresh lemon juice with a teaspoon soda. You'll see whitening effect in just a month! - For the third recipe you'll need some activated carbon and mix it with water. This black mixture will save your teeth and whiten them. - Mix kiwi and cucumber together. Brush your teeth with this mixture for seven days and enjoy the results! - One last budget teeth hack for you - use some banana peel. And don't forget to use a chewing gum after your meal! 2. How to make your hair smooth and shiny If you want to get the perfect hair, comb your hair before washing. Have shower with the temperature of the water 40-50c. Don't apply shampoo directly to your hair. Instead, pour a little on your palm and make a lather. Then massage it into your scalp, spread along the length of your hair and rinse with cold water. Apply hair balsam along your hair's length and wash it off after 5-7 minutes. Finally, take a cold shower. 3. Care for your hair after washing Pat them dry with a towel. Don't rub, don't twist, don't wring out not to damage your hair! Allow it to dry a little and apply few drops of hair oil or thermal protection to your tips. Brush it with a coarse-toothed comb. If you want, you may dry it with a hair dryer, but remember to use cold air and dry it from the roots to the tips. Always finish drying with cold air. Top 6 Epcot Art Festival Must Do's | International Festival of the Arts at Epcot
Today we make a visit to Epcot's Art Festival to show you our top 6 must do's for the International Festival of the Arts. Click here to subscribe: https://goo.gl/IGmfD7 Buy us a cup of coffee on our Ko-fi page: https://ko-fi.com/rixflix Our Etsy Shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/dontmissthemagic See our theme park shop https://www.amazon.com/shop/rixflix Get your Rix Flix welcome pack https://tinyurl.com/ya35p65l The Epcot international festival of the arts is our favorite of all the Epcot festivals. If your compiling a list of Disney top 10 or top 6 in our case then the Festival of the Arts Epcot is our number one rated festival. If there is one thing in common with all the epcot festivals then it would be epcot food. And we really enjoyed the epcot art festival 2019's offering when it comes to Disney dining. Beware though, Disney food doesn't come cheap, bring a thick wallet if your main reason for visiting epcot is to have the food. But this is an Disney vlog, actually it's an Epcot International Festival of the Arts vlog so we did take a drawing class to learn how to draw a classic Disney character. We also participated in painting the large paint by numbers mural. Throughout World Showcase, there are several locations where you can step inside a famous painting and create your own version of history. You can take your own photos with your camera or phone but they’re included in the Disney Photo Pass package. However, if you don’t have the photo pass, we’ve mention this in other videos you can hand the Photopass photographer you camera or phone and they’ll snap a picture for you. And have to do is ask nicely. And I think, with the photopass, they usually include a fun little movie clip showing the famous painting and then your version. To find these photo ops, just keep an eye open for them as you walk around World Showcase. Number five on the countdown of top six “festival of the arts must dos”…see a Disney on Broadway Performance. They added more days for the Broadway Performance this year. In previous years, these performances were not every day. But this year, here at the America Gardens Theater, the shows are NIGHTLY at 5:30 – 6:45 AND 8PM. It is such treat to be able to see this level of talent perform in a FREE concert. With this performance you’ll get songs from Disney classics like Tarzan, The Lion King, Aladdin, Little Mermaid and MORE. We’re not going to do it but you can buy Dining Packages that allow you to pair a reservation at a select Epcot-area restaurant with priority seating at the theater. Tonight’s performers are going to be Kerry Butler & Kevin Massey. Kevin Massey starred in the title role in Tarzan on Broadway. Kerry Butler is a previous Tony award nominee and also starred as Belle in Broadway’s Beauty and the Beast. I’ll leave a link in the video description for the full list of performances. Number four on today’s list, eat or drink something beautiful and delicious. Hey, it wouldn’t be an Epcot festival if it didn’t involve lots of food and drinks, right? Let’s go find a few things. Deconstructed strawberry shortcake. Lobster chips. Saint Honore Tart. Lobster Bacon Mac & Cheese Coming in at #3, visit the Animation Academy. Experience the magic of Disney animation first hand in the guided drawing class, led by a real Disney artist. Do this probably ranks a little higher on our list because the theme park art that Nikki does for her Etsy shop or our youtube channel. She start off painting rocks and hiding them in theme parks for other to find and then moved on to making other theme park inspired paintings and opening an Etsy shop. In fact, she painted an item for today’s video that we’re going to leave behind for someone to find and keep. Don’t just observe the art, participate in it. Join your fellow arts, young or old to complete this larger than life paint-by-numbers mural. Heck, even I have enough talent to paint in a few squares. Describe the process…. It’s really fun to watch it grow and see everyone painting it together. When you’re done you’ll be given a card showing the completed art. And coming in as the #1 “must dos” at the Festival of the Arts…check out the Disney inspired art and artists. I know what you’re thinking…”What shock Captain Rick Obvious!” #artfulepcot #festivalofthearts #disneyworld
