Company Vehicle Magazine - 2017 Suzuki S-Cross
We video test the 2017 Suzuki S-Cross – “We are very impressed by the Suzuki S-Cross Prestige, the level of standard equipment, comfort and drivability of the S-Cross Prestige is particularly impressive” The Suzuki S-Cross started its life as the SX-4 back in 2006 as a small, perky SUV Crossover that went over well enough. The second generation that appeared in 2013 ditched the cute looks for a more serious, grown-up look and a series of slightly different, but similar names around the world including New SX4, SX4 Crossover and SX4 S-Cross... 2017 Skoda Kodiaq - Video Road Report - Company Vehicle Magazine
As good as new cars are these days, it is still relatively rare that a manufacturer absolutely nails a new model right out of the box, but the Skoda Kodiaq is an example of just that. The Kodiaq is the Czech member of the VW Audi Group family's first go at a large SUV, and pretty much Skoda's first go at a 'proper' SUV, with the small Yeti crossover being more like a larger Roomster than an actual SUV. And make no mistake; the Kodiaq is big (with similar dimensions to a Hyundai Santa Fe), but doesn't look it, thanks to clever styling that also looks remarkably handsome... Company Vehicle Magazine - Suzuki Ignis 2017
A Fun, fresh, surprisingly roomy and practical SUV, which packs a remarkable amount of standard equipment. As the lines between traditional cars and SUVs continue to blur, we are going to see a lot more vehicles like the all-new Suzuki Ignis. Suzuki claim the Ignis is a super compact SUV, but looking at it you could be forgiven for wondering where the SUV part of that statement is, as it does look rather remarkably like a small hatch back. Regardless of what you or Suzuki want to call the Ignis, however, it is a rather remarkably fun, funky and practical little car. The Ignis is available in New Zealand in FWD form only and comes in... Company Vehicle Magazine - 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander VRX - Video Road Report
We video test the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander VRX – “With its impressive comfort, remarkable levels of standard equipment and handsome looks, the Outlander VRX is definitely a package worth giving serious consideration” The top of the range Outlander just keeps getting better. As far as Japanese car manufacturers go, Mitsubishi is the undisputed master of running changes - that is, making small, but meaningful tweaks and updates to a car during its life-cycle top keep it competitive. When the Outlander first came out there were the usual complaints about noise and harshness, as well as looks that... Company Vehicle Magazine - 2016 Mitsubishi Mirage - Video Road Report
We video test the 2016 Mitsubishi Mirage - “an ideal city commuter which is absolutely effortless to slip into even the tightest of parking spaces”. As the city car segment gets ever-more competitive, Mitsubishi has seen fit to give its entrant in the segment - the Mirage - a refresh to keep it at the top of the game. Mitsubishi offers the Mirage as a single high-specification model that boasts standard features like keyless entry, air conditioning, front fog lights, 15-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, rear privacy glass, Bluetooth and a leather steering wheel with phone and audio controls, as well as a full compliment of safety acronyms and six airbags. The most recent facelift saw the Mirage get a new nose with a prominent grille and extra chrome highlights, as well as a redesigned wing on the rear hatch. One of the Mirage’s best attributes around town is its tiny turning circle - at just 9.2 metres, the Mirage is an ideal city commuter and is absolutely effortless to slip into even the tightest of parking spaces. As well as the six airbags... more information on http://companyvehicle.co.nz

Company Vehicle Magazine - 2017 Ford Escape Titanium - Video Road Report
An impressive package that catapults Ford back up into serious consideration in the medium SUV segment…. high quality interior, strong engine, nimble handling and comfortable ride all score highly, as does the high level of equipment”. The medium SUV segment would seem to be the essential place to be these days, with the massive boom in sales showing no signs of levelling off. That, however, did leave Ford looking a bit sick. While they did have an entrant intro category, it was far from competitive, despite it not being all that old. Ford has replaced the Kuga with the new Escape. Although “new” is a relative term here, as the Escape is pretty much a... More information on http://companyvehicle.co.nz Follow cars news https://www.facebook.com/NZCompanyVehicle/

2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross VRX - Video Road Report - Company Vehicle Magazine
We video test the 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross VRX.  Despite its ever-increasing sales arc, actually new models have been few and far between for Mitsubishi in the last decade, which is precisely why the Eclipse Cross is so important to the Japanese brand. The Eclipse Cross is the Japanese company’s latest entrant in the popular SUV segment, and that is arguably the segment that saved Mitsubishi from its troubles, thanks to the success of the Outlander, as well as the ASX. Sitting in between the Outlander and the ASX in terms of both size and pricing, the Eclipse Cross brings a new level of technology to Mitsubishi SUVs... Company Vehicle Magazine - February issue is OUT
I first started working in the fleet market in 1985 with what was then Hertz Fleetlease – later Fleetlease and now Custom Fleet, initially in sales and then later as Operations manager running the fleet. 25 years ago in 1993 I started publishing Company Vehicle magazine. Over that time some aspects of the car market and fleets have changed almost beyond imagination whilst others have changed only minimally. When I started we still had a fully protected and inefficient local vehicle assembly sector; all cars had large tariffs and sales duties and in addition there was a luxury car tax. This meant... Company Vehicle Magazine - December issue is OUT
We just can’t get enough of them and the manufacturers are so desperate to sell them that they will imaginatively add an SUV badge to just about anything if they think the public will “buy” it. For 2017 to the end of September nearly 39% of all passenger vehicles sold new in New Zealand were SUV’s (up 3.5 percentage points from 2016). Medium SUV’s are the largest single category with 16.3% market share, with large SUV’s second at 11.5%, and small cars the first of the traditional model segments at 10.8%. Some of the popularity is logical – the higher ride height gives a better view of traffic and surroundings, the larger size and height makes drivers feel safer, most have AWD which is definitely safer and the interior is roomier, especially in terms of luggage space, whilst many models have seven seats for families and the slightly higher seats can make getting in and out easier. Some of it is more perception – not as boring as a station wagon or people... More information on http://companyvehicle.co.nz Follow cars news https://www.facebook.com/NZCompanyVehicle/

Company Vehicle Magazine - 2016 Honda Jazz Black edition - Video Road Report
We video test the 2016 Honda Jazz Black edition – “the Jazz makes for a fantastic city car with equally impressive open road abilities”. The latest incarnation of the Honda Jazz has impressed people since it was launched back in 2014 and it continues to do so. With its combination of great looks, high standard specification and extremely clever packaging, the Jazz makes for a fantastic city car with equally impressive open road abilities. Available in a wide range of model variants, the Jazz also now gets a dose of cosmetic personalisation in the form of the “Black Edition” package that can be added to any model in the range. The Black Edition adds tinted windows, black wing mirrors, black alloy wheels and Black Edition badging, while the RS model we look at in our latest video also gets the black treatment on its rear wing... more information on http://companyvehicle.co.nz Follow cars news https://www.facebook.com/NZCompanyVehicle/

Company Vehicle Magazine - October issue is OUT
Car companies keep coming up with whizzy new technology to put in their cars to entice buyers to their brand or to shell out for a higher spec model. What though is really great to have rather than nice to have – or sometimes even just sounds nice to have. Getting to drive a wide range of new cars as part of the magazine's test programme highlights what items really make life on the road better – you actually notice this most when you drive a car that lacks a feature you are used to and realise just how awesome that feature was. This last month we seem to have had a selection of vehicles nearer the bottom of the model and specification food chain so the lack of features has been more noticeable. I have ignored things that virtually every car now has such as air conditioning, hands free, power steering, ESC, etc... NZ Company Vehicle Magazine Mitsubishi Lancer GSR
Company Vehicle video tests the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer GSR. The Lancer was recently treated to a mild facelift for the 2016 model year and the sleeker, softer new nose is a definite improvement over the previous version and helps keeps things fresh for the ageing sedan. In terms of value for money there is little that can touch the GSR in its segment. While it isn’t exactly cutting edge, they additions and tweaks Mitsubishi make to the Lancer own a regular basis keep it impressively up with the play. Volvo parent company buys flying car company by CAR Magazine
Volvo parent company buys flying car company.Owner of Volvo. Owner of the London Taxi brand. Owner of the new Lynk & Co. car brand. Now Geely is the owner of Terrafugia; an American flying car company that envisions an airborne model appearing to the market in 2019. .What is Terrafugia?.Founded in 2006 by five MIT graduates, the privately funded outfit is based in Woburn, Masachussetts. It is currently working on two products, The Transition and the TF-X.The Transition. Described by Terrafugia as ‘the world’s first practical flying car’, the Transition has recently been approved by the Federal Aviation Administration as a ‘Light Sport Aircraft. ’ That enables it to be flown by holders of a Sport Pilot Certificate, which requires only 20 hours’ flying time – plus a driver’s licence for driving the vehicle on the road. It’s a folding-wing, two-seat, roadable aircraft that can switch between flight and drive mode in under a minute. Like any other car on the market, The Transition runs on ordinary unleaded petrol and will be fully equipped with airbags, seatbelts, a crumple zone and, less common in the automotive world, a parachute. Once airborne, various safety features kick in, including the encouragingly named ‘automatic terrain avoidance. ’.A series of working prototypes have logged over 100 flying hours, and Terrafugia hopes to bring the Transition to market in 2019. Classier aesthetics than the Transition and a sportier design - it looks like something that you might find hidden away in the bat cave. It’s more akin to a helicopter than a plane, capable of vertical take-off and landing – providing a more convenient mode of transport than that of the Transition. An all-electric vehicle, it’s still in the early R&D stages. Terrafugia claims that it should be possible to purchase for a price similar to most high-end luxury cars, with a launch scheduled by 2023. How are Geely involved?.Geely has acquired Terrafugia’s operations and assets in their entirety as of the week commencing 13 November 2017 for an undisclosed sum. Terrafugia will remain based in the USA and will continue to concentrate on its existing work developing flying cars. .In anticipation of Geely’s arrival Terrafugia says it’s ‘tripled’ its engineering team to nearly 100 – so there’s clearly a fresh injection of funds at play. Geely says it plans to expand the company’s R&D capabilities in the USA and in China. Geely's vice president of international business Nathan Yu Ning becomes the new chairman of Terrafugia, and former Bell Helicopter China MD Chris Jaran also joins as CEO while Terrafugia founder Carl Dietrich becomes chief technology officer. Three other appointees from the Geely Holding Company have also joined the management team. .Geely obviously believes Terrafugia’s chances of success are more than pie in the sky. Geely Holding Group founder and chairman Li Shufu announced:.'The team at Terrafugia have been at the forefront of believing in and realizing the vis

I-Team: Car Repair Critic Shakes Up Body Shops, Insurance Companies
By Randy Travis, FOX 5 I-Team Aired Apr 15 2019 KENNESAW, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A fraud complaint filed with Georgia's Insurance Commissioner reveals a bitter dispute between a chain of body shops and an independent appraiser critical of some of their repair work. At the heart of all this: people afraid to take their newly-repaired cars back on the road. People like Pam Skinner. Continue reading below "I was just like pretty upset," she admitted. In October 2018, Skinner's Nissan Pathfinder was rear-ended. It was clearly the other guy's fault; their insurance company paid for the repairs. Pam took her car to Classic Collision of Kennesaw. Classic Collision runs a string of body shops in Georgia and Alabama. They came up with an estimate of $7,773.19 for Pam's SUV. Two months later, they said it was ready. To Pam, it looked as good as new. But Pam knew the insurance company also owed her some additional money -- called Diminished Value -- because accidents affect the overall value of the vehicle even after it's been repaired. She didn't know how much to ask for, so she contacted an expert recommended by a friend. David Montanaro runs Southern Automotive Consultants. A former body shop owner himself, he's quickly become a thorn in the side of repair shops and insurance companies by publicly criticizing the quality of the work. "A structurally-misaligned car doesn't drive right," he explained. "It's dangerous." In Pam's case, Montanaro took apart the Pathfinder to check Classic Collision's repair. He criticized the body shop for not replacing the back lift gate and quarter panel originally damaged, instead the shop spending 18 hours repairing the damaged metal. Montanaro told Pam her car should have been totaled by her insurance company and might not protect her in a future accident. She says she's too scared to drive her car. "I thought insurance companies, when somebody hits you, they're supposed to make you whole," she said. "And I have not been made whole." "It saves a tremendous amount of money to fix these parts versus replace them," Montanaro explained. Montanaro filed his own complaint against Classic Collision, a collusion complaint with the US Attorney General, claiming some body shops cut corners on repairs in hopes of getting a steady stream of future business from the insurance company. The Justice Department would not comment. Hoping to prove his point, Montanaro secretly recorded his phone call with the manager of Classic Collision in Kennesaw. They were talking about that original estimate for Pam Skinner's car, the one Montanaro insisted should have gotten a new quarter panel and lift gate. The manager -- who once worked for Montanaro -- says his bosses turned down his request for those parts. "I got all the bigwigs involved," Ian Morris says on the recording. "I said it needs a quarter (panel) needs a (lift) gate. They said Ian, it doesn't matter what you want." No one from Classic Collision would talk to us on camera or make Ian Morris available for an interview. In a series of written statements, a Classic Collision spokesman said the repairs in Pam's case were "within industry standards and the least invasive." Classic Collision has since offered to replace the parts, even suggesting paying a different body shop to do the actual work. Pam Skinner said no. The company claims they've been targeted for "a shakedown." Classic Collision filed a complaint to the Georgia Insurance Commissioner that Montanaro was "operating as an adjuster without a license" and illegally negotiating settlements with insurance companies." Their attorney says the independent appraiser is needlessly frightening their customers. Montanaro fired off a reply, denying the accusations and telling the Insurance Commissioner that he had actually found five cars repaired by various Classic Collision locations that had an "inferior and unsafe 'repair' and then delivered back to their unsuspecting customers." The company denies any unsafe repairs. The Insurance Commissioner cleared Montanaro of any wrongdoing with his business. Since then, Classic Collision has filed a fraud complaint. The Insurance Commissioner won't comment on that. Montanaro told the Insurance Commissioner his critical reports convinced Classic Collision or the insurance company to later buy back cars from the customer. 5 Things Insurance Companies Say to Steer You After a Car Accident
http://kandmcollision.com After an accident, you look to your insurance provider for advice. Unfortunately, the advice they give you is not always in your best interests. Your insurer may try to bully you into using a shop on their “preferred” network, away from shops that don’t comply with their standards of repair, or their use of cheap, imitation parts. This is known as steering, and all fifty states have laws in place to protect consumers from this practice. It’s common practice for insurance companies to skirt the law, using misleading statements and intimidation to direct their policyholders to shops that will save them money. Who loses out when insurers and shops use cheap parts and cut corners? You, the vehicle owner. But it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s your legal right to have your vehicle restored to the condition it was in before the accident. Don’t give in to steering. Defend your right to a safe, high quality repair by preparing yourself for these five common statements your insurance company uses to steer you after an accident: “That shop isn’t on our preferred network.” Insurance companies use the word “preferred” to describe shops that have entered into a contractual agreement with them in exchange for referrals. Describing these insurance network, or “Direct Repair Program” shops as “preferred” suggests that they are selected for superior quality. In reality, insurance company profits are the priority with these shops. Preferred shops have been found to use cheaper parts, and to skip procedures that are needed to keep your vehicle safe. Don’t choose a shop that insurance companies prefer. Choose a shop that prefers your interests, over your insurance company’s. “If you take it to that shop, we can’t guarantee their work.” This is a common, and blatantly misleading statement. In our experience, it is the shop that provides the warranty on the work, not the insurance company. At K&M Collision, we provide a lifetime guarantee on all of the work we perform, regardless of insurance company. “The charges at that shop are higher, and you may be responsible for the difference.” 99.9% of the time, the initial insurance estimate on repairs is inadequate. When our factory trained and certified technicians perform an in-depth analysis of the damage, they prove what is necessary to properly and safely repair your vehicle. This is part of the process, and insurers will pay once the need for necessary repairs is proven. K&M Collision has certifications from 17 major vehicle manufacturers, including Porsche, Audi, Ford and Volkswagen. We insist on fully restoring the safety of these vehicles, never using inferior imitation parts, and never cutting corners. Sometimes insurance companies resist this approach, and we do everything we can to protect the safety and resale value of our customer’s vehicles, and ensure that necessary work is covered. “Claims take longer to settle at that shop.” In our experience, delays in the claims process result from a strategy employed by insurance companies to delay and deny justified claims. Sometimes, they will even say, “If you use that shop, we can’t get someone out for several days, but if you use our preferred shop we have some there to start on it right away.” This is just another tactic insurance companies use to skirt anti-steering laws, and pressure policyholders to a network shop that will use cheap parts and skip procedures. “They’re charging for parts and procedures that aren’t necessary.” When you hear this statement, be aware that insurers are just trying to avoid fulfilling their obligation to you, the policyholder, to restore your vehicle to pre-accident condition. This worst part about this is that using inferior parts and skipping procedures has been proven to compromise the safety of your vehicle, to say nothing about the loss of resale value. Preferred shops will often bow to insurance company pressures to use inferior parts, whereas our factory-trained and certified technicians insist on repairs that fully restore the safety systems of your car. Insurance companies use these statements to intimidate you. They want to scare you into going to a shop that cares more about their profits than they do about your best interests. Now that you understand the motivations behind these statements, you’re better equipped to make the right choices after an accident. "Who Guarantees Repairs?" The Insurance Company or the Auto Body Shop?
After an accident, one of the most common things you’ll hear from an insurance company is ‘if you take your car to a shop that’s not on our referral program or preferred list, we won’t warranty or guarantee the repair’. This statement isn’t just misleading, It’s completely false. The insurance company does not, has not and will not warranty the repair even if your car is repaired at their direct repair facility. Let’s say you do follow their recommendation, and take your car to one of their shops. If there are problems with that repair, the shop itself is liable, in exactly the same way that K&M is liable for any of the repairs that we perform. The shop you choose, whether it be an insurance preferred shop or an independent shop, is solely responsible for the warranty on the repairs to your vehicle. So why do insurance companies make this misleading statement to their policyholders? It’s just another scare tactic. In reality, the insurance company itself doesn’t provide any guarantee. In fact, with the pressure they place on their shops to turn out high volume, they create an environment that’s more likely to result in bad repairs. But they don’t have to worry about that. Because ultimately, the shop is responsible. At K&M Collision we don’t participate in referral networks. Our only priority is to serve our customers by fixing their car the right way. You can rest assured that any repair that comes through our doors is guaranteed for life.

Cabinet Shop Tour, Sogn Cabinet Company
This is a tour of my cabinet shop completed in June of 2017. I went from a 2,500 sq ft shop that I was leasing to building my own woodworking building that is just shy of 8,000 sq ft. After being in it a year and a half, I have already out grown it. Something I thought would take a LOT longer to achieve.
