But Steve Jobs is unique in that despite clearly being an effective leader, he was not particularly likeable. Steve Jobs presentation and interview skills were legendary though. In this video we break down exactly what it was that made Steve Jobs such a powerful leader by examining his interviews and speeches. The goal is to use the lessons from his life to learn how to motivate employees and the people in our lives. Subscribe to Charisma On Command: http://bit.ly/subscribeCOC Connect With Us. Are you looking for a job? If you're watching this video, you're part of a small percentage of people that care about the values and principles of their employer; this is a well known success factor in employee performance and tenure. However, you're competing with many others that apply in bulk for the same position; so how do you capitalize on your time investment? Be proactive! when applying And during interviews, be sure to let recruiters and hiring managers know that you watched this! --- 1. Customer obsession: start with the customer and work backwards; work vigorously to earn and keep customer trust; pay attention to competitors, but keep obsessing over customers 2. Ownership: think like an owner, long term and don’t sacrifice long-term value for short-term results; act on behalf of the entire company, not just for your own team; never say “that’s not my job" 3. Invent and simplify: expect and require innovation and invention from your team and always find ways to simplify; be externally aware, always look for new ideas from everywhere, and don’t be limited by “not invented here" 4. Leaders are right a lot 1:52 : you have strong judgment and good instincts; you seek diverse perspectives and work to disconfirm your beliefs 5. Frugality 3:50 : accomplish more with less. Constraints breed resourcefulness, self-sufficiency and invention. There are no extra points for growing headcount, budget size or fixed expense 6. Hire and develop the best 5:01 : raise the performance bar with every hire and promotion; recognize exceptional talent, and willingly move them throughout the organization; develop leaders and take seriously your role in coaching others 7. Earn trust 5:05 : listen attentively, speak candidly, and treat others respectfully. Be vocally self-critical, even when doing so is awkward or embarrassing; leaders do not believe their or their team’s body odor smells of perfume; benchmark yourself and your team against the best. 8. Insist on the highest standards 7:42 : you have relentlessly high standards - many may think these standards are unreasonably high; you are continually raising the bar and driving your team to deliver high quality products, services and processes; defects do not get sent down the line and problems are fixed so they stay fixed 9. Bias for action 11:34 : speed matters in business. Many decisions and actions are reversible and do not need extensive study. We value calculated risk taking. 10. Learn and be curious 11:34 : you are never done learning and you always seek to improve; you are curious about new possibilities and act to explore them 11. Have backbone. Disagree and commit 13:26 : respectfully challenge decisions when you disagree, even when doing so is uncomfortable or exhausting; have conviction and be tenacious; do not compromise for the sake of social cohesion; once a decision is determined, commit to it. 12. Dive deep 13:26 : operate at all levels, stay connected to the details, audit frequently, and be skeptical when metrics and anecdote differ. No task is beneath you. 13. Think big 16:04 : thinking small is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Create and communicate a bold direction that inspires results. Think differently and look around corners for ways to serve customers. 14. Deliver results 16:04 : focus on the key inputs for your business and deliver with the right quality and in a timely fashion; despite setbacks, rise to the occasion and never settle

Classical Management Theory

10:49
Classical Management Theory, broadly speaking, is based upon Henri Fayol, Frederick Taylor, and Max Weber's overlapping management theories. These three management theories came together to form what we generally refer to nowadays as Classical Management Theory. Virtually all areas of organizational studies from management, to business, to organizational communication put these three theorists at the foundation of most modern day organizations for developing theories of 1) Administrative science, 2) Scientific Management, and 3) Bureaucracy. Taken together, they form the basis for how we organizational structures and relationships between managers and employes. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1433131234/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=alexlyon-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=1433131234&linkId=6bfd9c333c786d16025c5a7c70a3ef4c The Organizational Communication Channel provides supplemental lessons for traditional, hybrid, and 100% online courses for students and teachers everywhere. You exchange information. You need to have the right responses to the employer’s questions. You need to ask good questions. You need the right background. You need to impress. 1. It’s about their future, not your past. You need to get the interviewers, the most senior interviewers, thinking into the future. If you can't get them to imagine what their life will be like and what their company will look like with you there, you'll never get hired. 2. Leaders are inclusive and inspiring. You need to be the high tide that lifts all the boats. Leaders build more leaders. They don't build more followers. You need to show them you're great at inspiring and inclusive. You're great at building teams. 3. Stay away from one-and-done questions because then you’ll be done. Specifically, I mean asking a great question, then receiving their response, and then moving on to the next question. That's the big mistake! The message you're sending to them is that you are a puddle skipper. You are not somebody who's digging deep to get information and collecting it all. You're not well researched. You’re not digging deep enough to get the information you need to make a good decision. -------------------- ABOUT ANDREW -------------------- Andrew LaCivita is an internationally recognized executive recruiter, award-winning author, trainer, and founder and chief executive officer of milewalk and the milewalk Academy. Top 10 Proven Classroom Management Tips for Teachers

04:05
Tweet this Video: http://clicktotweet.com/UfFee http://www.ampli.com/ Like us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/AmplivoxPortableSoundSystemsandLecterns Classroom management Definition: "A term used by teachers to describe the process of ensuring that classroom lessons run smoothly despite disruptive behavior by students." Listed below are several techniques, ideas, resources, and tips for teachers to hone the right skills to conquer their classroom: 1. Start the year tough. Many teachers make the mistake of starting the school year with a poor discipline plan or without any classroom management plan at all. It is so much easier to start tough and then lighten up, then to start light and discipline more. At the beginning of the year, students quickly assess the situation and realize what they will be allowed to get away with. Starting the year tough will give you control and flexibility. 2. Be fair to all students. 3. Be prepared for disruptions---and don't let them phase you. Students often amplify their teacher's reaction to disruptions—be ready for them and be ready to calmly and quickly pick up where you left off. Having a joke or interesting comment ready to bring attention back to you will allow you to transition back to the material. 4. Instill high expectations 5. Incentivize good behavior. Motivating students though rewards like no homework, watching a video, ice cream, or free-activity time can help students by giving them a goal. This can also help students hold each other accountable to class goals and stigmatize negative behavior even more. 6. Overplan. 7. Have a clearly expressed disciplinary plan...with consequences! Make sure students know the disciplinary ladder well. Any hint of ambiguity can leave a loophole for excuses (and students are great at making excuses!). Warn students when they are close to breaking a rule so there will be no ambiguity when that line is crossed. If you constantly raise your voice to get the attention of the class, consider investing in a classroom amplification system which can save your voice by projecting it. The iPod Portable PA system is a great system for classrooms because it features an iPod dock that simultaneously plays and charges your iPod and also has outputs for a projector. 8. Focus on relationships. A teacher than can connect positively with their students will make students behave and easier to manage because students will regard the teacher much like a friend. Using positive reinforcement to build a positive reputation for the child gives the student confidence that their teacher believes in them and will make it harder to disappoint the teacher with bad behavior or work ethic. 9. Be careful about confrontation 10. Be patient and keep practicing. Don't worry if things don't go well right away...controlling your classroom is learn-able but will always be a challenge with some students. Whether you are teach a kindergarten class, at an elementary school, middle school, or high school, it is best to "Expect the Unexpected" and be ready for adversity! Try our quiz at the end to practice what you have learned, nail that interview, and get that job! Then work like a dog for the rest of your life :) Take the quiz: https://www.engvid.com/job-interview-behavioral-questions/ TRANSCRIPT Hello. My name is Emma, and in today's video I am going to teach you how to do really well on your interview. So, if you're looking for a job and you have an interview coming up, I'm going to talk to you about a type of question you might hear during your interview. I'm going to tell you how to recognize this type of question, and how to answer this type of question, along with many tips that can help you. Okay? So if you're about to do an interview, don't stress out - we can do it. All right, so let's look at the types of questions we're going to talk about today. Today we're talking about behavioural interview questions. Okay? So let's look at some examples to understand what I mean by "behavioural interview questions". Okay, so we have this question: "Tell me about a time when you worked effectively under pressure." So take a moment to think about that question. "Give an example of how you worked on a team.", "Describe a time when you had to deal with a very upset customer.", "Have you ever made a mistake? How did you handle it?" Okay, so when we're talking about behavioural questions, it's important to think about: What is being asked of you? Okay? So, the main thing with these types of questions is this word here: "Give an example". Behavioural questions... behavioural interview questions require that you give an example of how you have dealt with or handled a situation. So, my next question to you is: Do you think we're talking about an example of the past, something that's happened; the present; or the future, something that could happen? So look at these questions. Are we talking about a past example, a present example, or a future example? If you said: "Past example", you are correct. When we talk about behavioural interview questions, what the interviewer is asking is they want you to give a past example. Okay? Something you have done in the past. How can you recognize these types of questions? Because there are many different interview types of questions, these are just one type, so how do you know if it's behavioural interview question? That's a very good question. One way to know is by looking for key words. Okay? So, a lot of the times behavioural questions start off with some sort of hint or clue. "Tell me about a time" is an example. Okay? "Tell me about a time when you worked effectively under pressure.", "Tell me about a time when you disagreed with your boss.", "Tell me about a time when you had problems with your co-workers." Okay? So lot of the times you will hear: "Tell me about" or "Tell me about a time", and that's a signal: Okay, this is probably a behavioural interview question. You might have this as a starter to the question, they might ask you: "Give me an example of how you worked on a team." or "Give me an example of a time when you showed leadership." Okay? So those would both be behavioural questions. Again: "Describe a time". A lot of the times you'll hear the word: "a time" or "an example". So this is another common phrase you will hear with behavioural interview questions. You might also have a question like this: "Have you ever made a mistake?", "Have you ever had difficulties working with somebody?", "Have you ever had a conflict with a customer?", "How did you handle it? What did you do?" So these types of questions, they don't have the same key words as the ones above, but usually they're written or they're said with the present perfect tense, and usually you'll hear a second follow-up question: "How did you handle it?" Okay? So, key word here: "did". If you hear the past tense in the question, then they probably want you to answer the question using a past example. Okay? So, this might be a little bit confusing, you might be a bit worried, you know: "Oh, these questions seem really hard." Well, the very first step is recognizing these questions, so that's what we're going to do right now. We are going to practice recognizing behavioural interview questions. Okay, so now we are going to practice identifying behavioural interview questions. Okay? […]

How To Beat Personality Tests In Job Interviews

06:25
Feeling stuck in your job search? Not sure what's wrong? Check out Work It Daily's FREE tutorial on how to fix the things that could be holding you back in your job search: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ Employers judge job candidates in three key areas: personality, aptitude, and experience - in that order. As a result, some companies make candidates take personality tests during the hiring process to make sure they filter out candidates who might not be the best fit. If you’re intimidated by the thought of taking one of these personality tests, you’re not alone. But the best way to beat personality tests during the hiring process is to be prepared. And that’s what I’m here to help you with today! Let me start by explaining the types of tests employers could give you. 3 Basic Test Types: - Cognition and ability - Simulations and skills - Personality and other indicators Now, let’s get into why companies use these types of tests. Companies use them to… - Weed out ill-fitting applicants - Be objective - Overcome lying - Replace references - Reduce turnover Let’s practice really quickly. If you were given the following options, which would YOU choose? - I enjoy the thrill of meeting new people. - I like to be alone most of the time. - It’s hard for me to make conversation with people I don’t know. - I like being to center of attention. This is an example of a behavioral question. You need to think about the position you’re applying for and choose the answer that makes the most sense for the role. For example, if the position you’re applying for deals with cold calling and a lot of client interaction, then the employer will be looking for people who chose the answer “I enjoy the thrill of meeting new people.” While you want to be honest in these tests, you also need to keep in mind what answers they would be looking for a specific role. This leads me into ways you can prepare for these interviews. Tips for Success: - Do your homework - Be honest - Don’t be extreme - Ask questions: What is the test measuring? Is it going on file? Can I get the results? If you need more ideas for questions to asking during your interview, check out our video the 8 Smart Interview Questions To Ask Hiring Managers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y95eI-ek_E8 If you’re having a hard time even getting interviews, I’ve got a free resource that could help address some issues that could be holding you back.
