What is FASHION DESIGN? What does FASHION DESIGN mean? FASHION DESIGN meaning & explanation
What is FASHION DESIGN? What does FASHION DESIGN mean? FASHION DESIGN meaning & explanation. Fashion design is the art of application of design and aesthetics or natural beauty to clothing and accessories. Fashion design is influenced by cultural and social attitudes, and has varied over time and place. Fashion designers work in a number of ways in designing clothing and accessories such as bracelets and necklace. Because of the time required to bring a garment onto the market, designers must at times anticipate changes to consumer tastes. "Designers conduct research on fashion trends and interpret them for their audience". They attempt to design clothes which are functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. They consider who is likely to wear a garment and the situations in which it will be worn. They have a wide range and combinations of materials to work with and a wide range of colors, patterns and styles to choose from. Though most clothing worn for everyday wear falls within a narrow range of conventional styles, unusual garments are usually sought for special occasions such as evening wear or party dresses. Some clothes are made specifically for an individual, as in the case of haute couture or bespoke tailoring. Today, most clothing is designed for the mass market, especially casual and every-day wear are called ready to wear.

How do clothes shape the body? Introduction to Silhouettes | FASHION AS DESIGN
When we put on clothes, we change the shape and outline of our bodies—sometimes profoundly. The silhouettes we adopt are determined by everything from shifting trends in fashion to what looks and feels good. This week, we explore how clothes shape the body and how cultural constructions of the body shape clothes. FASHION AS DESIGN is a new course by MoMA that explores a selection of garments from around the world—ranging from Kente cloth to jeans to 3D-printed dresses. Each week will begin with a conversation between the course instructors—Paola Antonelli, Michelle Fisher, and Stephanie Kramer—that introduces the themes, items, and questions that we will explore. What Does it Take to Be A Fashion Designer?
Click for more: http://ww2.kqed.org/artschool/ Oakland high school student Zachary Fernandez made it to the finals on the first season of Project Runway Junior, then headed straight back to Oakland School of the Arts to continue his education as a designer. His newest collection, Kathmandu, was inspired by recovery efforts in Nepal after the devastating 2015 earthquake. Art School followed Fernandez's process as he sketched, sourced fabric, and designed his new project, revealed at a culminating fashion show in spring 2016. Hi, my name is Zachary Fernandez and I'm currently a fashion student. So I am starting my Kathmandu 2016 collection. My collection's gonna be debuting at my school fashion show, and so I have little under seven weeks to get this all put together. So our school assignment was to pick a city that we wanted to be inspired by for this collection. I ended with Kathmandu, Nepal, all of the trouble that they went through last year was really inspiring and I was able to take those ideas of imbalance and the destruction of culture and apply that to this new collection. These are the pieces that I ended up designing. They're ever-changing and they kind of just are always in flux. My sketching process involves a lot of images, a lot of mixed medias, I like to do collages, watercolors, acrylic paste, it's a real reflection of what my mind looks like. Here you have the final sketches that I've done. The sketching process for me is really a major step between just ideas and kind of this fantasy world that I've created in my mind to really functional wearable pieces. Fabric sourcing is one of my favorite things to do. It's really like a group activity, like meet a couple of friends, we'll just go, we'll explore the city, we'll get inspiration. So I'm looking for like a very pale blue that's almost like very silverish, and then I'm gonna be looking for a very deep, rust orange color. Okay, so I need to find this, but more grayish blue. The fabric store is one of those places that you go in with one idea and one concept and one thought, and you come out with like 500 more. This is it. - This is it! - This is it. - [Girl] Dude! - Hey! Yes! So I spend the majority of my time draping and it's definitely a part that will make or break a piece. I take a piece of muslin, which is just a really basic blend fabric, and I started sculpting it to the dress form. And then those mock-ups that I make of the dress form are then fitted to the model, and sometimes I try them on a model, I'm like, this is hideous, I don't know why, it just overpowers her or something happens and that leads to even better ideas and even more just, creativeness. When you design while you create, I just think it takes so much longer and you like pressure yourself so much more. So, my design mind is turned off. And it's just about sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing. So after I finish draping, I take a part of that mockup and I totally seam rip it and I re-pattern it, and then I cut out of my real fabric. It's always really nerve-wracking 'cause a lot of times the fabric's all that you have, either the budget doesn't allow for you to get more fabric, or there's simply not anymore left. It has this like box-like structure in it. The box is actually lined with horse-hair so that it can kind of take the shape and that's why I'm kind of trying to like manipulate it right now 'cause it just takes on whatever shape you really need it to. The show, oh the show. Six days, and I'm still cutting up fabric like, I don't think that's normal. There's always going to be that last minute hurry up and finish like state of being. I have a picture in my mind about how this is supposed to go, but who knows if it actually go that way. I think that there can be a lot of different ways to read the look. Obviously you look for like the main things like color, silhouette, is this an evening piece, is this a day piece and you just kind of put the garment and choose certain categories and that really helps people read fashion out, by the time the piece is on the runway I'm already thinking about a whole new collection and I'm really thinking something totally different, but it doesn't really hit me that these people, for them it's the first time that they've seen this. I've spent months and months planning and sketching and putting it together. If I see all these different things in these pieces, but no one else does, then it's kind of sad, but then it's also part of what makes fashion art, is because people see it in so many different ways. We are in my home, studio, bedroom combination in Berkeley, California. I have this look from Project Runway Junior, which was the first episode, and this look for my most recent collection. They really mean a lot to me 'cause they show how much progress I've made within the last four, five months.

Fashion Designer Finds Meaning in NTD Han Culture Design Competition
A world-renowned Hong Kong fashion designer has praised NTD's Global Han Culture Design Competition as meaningful. He says it helps guide fashion designers to revisit traditional Chinese attire. Heres more from our Hong Kong correspondent. Weiming Ma is the first fashion designer known to have ever established his own brand in Hong Kong. With 34 years' experience in fashion designing, he is well-known globally for his elegant evening dress designs, and fashionable formal wear winning several awards with a business covering China and the Middle East. These days Ma spends most of his time as vice-chairman of Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association. He is confident that New Tang Dynasty Televisions Global Han Culture Design Competition has a special meaning. [Weiming Ma, Fashion Designer]: (quote1, male) "This is a meaningful competition because it guides fashion designing enthusiasts to study more about characteristics of Chinese attire. Every dynasty in China has its own precious part to take into fashion design. If they could get more inspiration from those clothes, they could do better in their careers." His favorite ancient Chinese clothes are from the Tang Dynasty because it was the golden age in Chinese history. [Weiming Ma, Fashion Designer]: (quote2, male) "The clothes (from the Tang Dynasty) are very well-made using skills of textile spinning and dyeing. The tops were very diversified, which directly affected the way people wore clothes for generations." Although Chinese traditional clothes haven't had a suitable place in international fashion design, Ma believes that the culture of traditional Chinese clothes will become increasingly important across the world. [Weiming Ma, Fashion Designer]: (quote3, male) "We could see that the movie called Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon had the best fashion designing award in the Oscars. We can tell that they are gradually accepting traditional Chinese culture and design with Chinese characteristics." Ma has drawn some designs, including traditional Chinese women's clothes. He says that participants should be very diligent if they want to take part in the competition. [Weiming Ma, Fashion Designer]: (quote4, male) "I would start from the outline, then the color and texture, and add more delicate hand-made stuff. We can express our own style through each step in designing." NTD, Hong Kong.

“Don't design clothes, Design dreams later transfer to cloths.”
If you're interested in studying fashion design in college, you'll have to include a portfolio in your application. Portfolios are used so the college can see the talent you have, so this is your chance to design whatever you want. Make sure it's something you're proud of and represents who you are. I made my portfolio this summer at a 2 week college program. I learned all about the portfolio process and had to present the portfolio at the end. I got an 89% overall in the class (averaging in tests and assignments) and a 90% on the portfolio itself plus the presentation. I see that this only took me two weeks which is a very short time to make a portfolio, so I'm going to make a few changes before I submit it. Thanks for watching! AAU fashion collection 2017 - My Semester - FSH 600 OL1: Fashion Design 1
Here is my collection done on the last semester. Project 1 : Presentation: Al-Andalus This collection is Summer-Spring 2017 In this colors story I decided to use main colors. Based on my research the colors more common were pure black, Spanish Light Red, dark blues, almost mixing with green, dark gold, light pink and intense green, almost leave in spring. The main inspiration for the colors was the architecture of the Alhambra, the garden and the Muslim’s architecture in the city of Granada. All the colors were used by the population back that time. The colors were extremely popular, based on the garments located n the Museum of Alhambra. The silk, cotton and leather were used for garments, as well as animal bones. The main fabrics in this collection is silk twill, silk chiffon, cotton twill, and faux leather. In addition, there is Silk Rayon Brocade for the jacket. The light weight and medium weight fabrics were assigned to the tops. Some pants and bodysuit made with light-medium weight. The base of all the fabrics are the silks: chanteuse, georgette, twill and chiffon. The one fabric used as novelty was the silk rayon brocade, due to the color combination black-gold. This silhouette is 1930s - 1900s inspired. Also in Al-Andalus, women wear loose clothes. No corsets or tight-fitting clothing were used. It is more princess-pegged from a silhouette standpoint. Based on the research, the time frame, and the weather, I decided to create the pieces for a spring-summer season. Many of the smaller details came from Art Nouveau: the elements of arms and the lace, also from the 1930s, came with the dotted fabrics. All the elements were tighter to the body. My target customer will be women between 18-35 years old who love to wear simple, elegant, and timeless pieces. These are very breathable, lightweight pieces for summer, but also warm enough to use in the spring. They can also be worn on the beach. What will you bring to the market to set yourself apart from your competition? The collection was extensively researched to bring back an old style of dress, and bring it back to Spanish culture. There is a large amount of meaning behind the collection pieces, and the competition does not fully understand the cultural meanings and value of this style of garment. Who would those designers be? Custo Barcelona Amaya Arzuaga Pura Lopez Project 2 : Presentation: In the darkness For Yohji Yamamoto The inspiration was Yohji Yamamoto last 5 years RTW and The Cloud Atlas movie by Wachowskis’s sister. The plot of this movie is complex, its is about 6 timeline interconected which one period is extreme influential which is the New Seoul 2144. This character is a clon used as slave for a fast food. The colors were inspired by Yohji Yamamoto and few reference from the timeline, like 2144 and 2346. Black is the main colors also the most used color by Yohji Yamamoto style. Red Crimson Cold Gray Charcoal gray (black/white) Fabrics: I used cotton and silk. This collection is Summer /Spring So the fabrics are soft, wrapping and wrapping the body. Medium weight: Red twill 100% cotton Black Gauze 100% cotton Black/White Chambray 100% cotton Light weight: Silky white 100% cotton Gray Chambray 100% cotton ♡Instagram➜ https://www.instagram.com/gabby_weinkauf ♡ Twitter➜ https://twitter.com/gabby_weinkauf ♡ Facebook➜ https://www.facebook.com/bonecatejera... ♡ Snapchat➜ gabby_weinkauf 28401 Mound Apt 5422 Warren, MI 48090 www.gabbyweinkauf.com FOR BUSINESS INQUIRIES ONLY: ♡ Contact me at [email protected] Disclaimer I can’t guarantee that all of the make-up and skincare products I recommend will suit you. Most Hilarious And Creative T-Shirt Designs
Since the 1960's the T-shirt design took a turn making it into a platform for self-expression. Meaning you could now represent your beliefs, favorite band or tell the world about you past vacations without even talking about it and only by wearing a graphic T-shirt. Though it can also be just a funny T-shirt, without any strong beliefs behind it, too. This post is dedicated to excellent and straightforward t-shirt design ideas that use the shirt's canvas creatively or cleverly.
