How to draw a fashion portrait

14:00
How to draw a fashion portrait inspired by a Givenchy fashion photography. ======================= I'm Ioana Avram, fashion designer. Welcome to my Fashion teaching channel where you will find design videos starting from basic, easy level ( for beginners ) until advanced level. Follow my advices regarding the hand draw: anatomy studies, fashion poses, figures and croquis, learn about style and craft, fabrics and how to create garments. I love painting and sketching, I like fabrics and fashion magazines and especially pencil, ink and watercolor technique. I believe anyone can draw after practicing a while because all you need is work, work, work and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. :) I made this channel to prove that it's ok to have talent, but not necessary. Through my one of a kind technique you will see how easy it will be to draw from now on. You will learn more about fashion and everything related to it: composition, shading, textures, different techniques and especially learn how to draw fashion sketches all by yourself. I will post new videos each Thursday so don't forget to subscribe. I will do my best to answer all comments. Ask anything you want, and feel free to leave any suggestions for future videos! All are taken into consideration. For more info visit my website fashion-teaching.com. Thank you and take care! FAQ: 1. What materials do you use for your drawings? ****************************************************** I use Toison d'Or or Koh-I-Noor pencils ( from 4B to 8B), Copic markers, Derwent coloured pencils, Canson paper or Fabriano paper, Factis eraser, metal pencil sharper and Winsor and Newton watercolors and ink. 2. Did you go to any art school or academy? ****************************************************** Yes, I studied design and fashion design ( for 4 years) at the University of Arts and Design in Cluj, Romania, Europe. I had a scholarship in Katowice, Poland and another one in Coburg, Germany and a course attended with Gary Tu - a well-known fashion illustrator from Taipei, Taiwan. 3.Where do you get your inspiration? ****************************************************** Basically I am very interested in any image and text that could grab my attention: fashion albums, history of art, books I read, movies I see...In fact, i will share below all my sources of inspiration. Find all my inspirational folders here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/397137153755499/photos/ 4. Do you have any links or books you can recommend? ****************************************************** Definitely I would recommend Gottfried Bammes' Anatomy, Barcsay's Anatomy and David Downton's illustrations that you will find here: http://www.daviddownton.com/ and here: http://instagram.com/daviddownton 5. How long have you been drawing? ****************************************************** 30 years ago some desperate parents interdicted their 3 years old child to use pencils to draw on their house's inner walls :). Due to this, and to the fact that all pencils, brushes and markers were forbidden, the child found another way to express: all chocolate received was hidden and used to "decorate" the walls when all other tools were not available.30 years later, here I am, willing to tell a story on every wall there is. Not with chocolate, like I used to :), but in watercolors, as you can find on my shop here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/bijuterra. Thank you, and hope to enjoy my illustrations and videos from your comfortable armchair, having a cup of warm milk in your hand and smiling. 6. How can I send my drawing to you? ****************************************************** For any personal advice you can send me your illustrations or questions here: [email protected] and I will reply. Fashion Illustration Masters: Gruau, Lagerfeld & Downton

07:18
Rene Gruau, Karl Lagerfeld and David Downton are masters in their field. Their drawings are a particular form of art that represents glamour and beauty. Gruau, arguably the grandmaster of Fashion illustration, part French, part Italian renounced his aristocratic and privileged position (his father being an Italian Count) and chose the artistic life in Paris. His drawings undoubtedly reflect some of that high society feel. Lagerfeld, Downton and others have followed in his footsteps making the illustration an art form. This medium is very distinctive - neither sketching or painting - with the minimum of strokes to create the mood. Some may question is it art? To me there is no question - it has pride of place on any wall and will I believe be a unique record of a particular style of art from the late 20th, early 21st century. The background music is by Les Hommes, tracks "In Spring" and "Vista Do Mar". The movie excerpts are from Lagerfeld Confidential (2007), a very amusing look into the life and style of Karl Lagerfeld, and Vanity Fair clip on David Downton sketching Daphne Guinness, Sofia Coppola, Caroline Herrera and Iman for their September Issue. The Three Graces - Elegance, Beauty and Style. My Philosophy for a sublime way of living. My aim - to bring a touch of old world grace and discreet glamour to the everyday. "Having class - it's not half the battle - it's the whole war" Also on Tumblr : http://bellisvintage.tumblr.com/archive http://bellisvintagemono.tumblr.com/archive "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. FAQ about Ioana Avram and Fashion Teaching

07:09
You wanted to know more about me. Here are all your questions gathered and my answers. Know the story of my life and career and in the meantime, just enjoy my paintings! Waiting for your new comments each day. I will reply in another new video:) Frequently asked questions: 1. What materials do you use for your drawings? ****************************************************** I use Toison d'Or or Koh-I-Noor pencils ( from 4B to 8B), Copic markers, Derwent coloured pencils, Canson paper or Fabriano paper, Factis eraser, metal pencil sharper or Cretacolor sharpner and Winsor and Newton watercolors and ink. 6. How did you become a fashion designer. ***************************************************** Well I am not really a fashion designer. I am more into drawing and thinking than executing the ideas. I am more of a fashion illustrator and a fashion design and illustration teacher. I love the creative part, I love sketches and thinking but not necessarily actually making my designs. But who knows? Maybe in the future. I am not so much into creating clothes. I think I love more my brushes and papers and watercolors. I love to dream, to create, to imagine sort of things and especially i love fashion illustration. 7. How can I send my drawing to you? ****************************************************** For any personal advice you can send me your illustrations or questions here: [email protected] and I will reply. Thank you! 8. How do I can create a fashion collection? ****************************************************** There is my site here: www.fashion-teaching.com where I teach to my Romanian and foreign students how to draw or paint. The steps are described there, and i have like hundred of posts where you can learn a lot:) Also, please look at my Youtube playlists where i explain the creative part of a collection. 9. Which is your favorite color to create and to use? ****************************************************** My favorite is the purple, lila, lavender family, But this, I think, is obvious, if you take a look at my illustrations. 10. What are the reasons that you usually upload your illustrating video on the Internet? ****************************************************** First, I consider Youtube as a tool for my students. It was very useful for me to upload the lessons and then my students had to reproduce the drawings, all by themselves, at home, as a homework. Then, i realized I had a lot of views, comments and subscribers and now out community online has more than 30.000 members.I started to receive a lot of comments from my "online students" form all around the world and then, the next step was simple:i started to generate content for all the requests. People were interested by my watercolor technique, the fashion sketches and the human anatomy, so I continued to do "how to" tutorials to make all my students happy:)

Fashioning Illustration: Drawn to Glamour Panel Discussion

01:00:20
On May 13, 2018, in conjunction with the Denver Art Museum exhibition "Drawn to Glamour: Fashion Illustrations by Jim Howard," the textile art and fashion department at the Denver Art Museum presented a panel discussion surrounding the ever changing role of fashion illustration both as an art form and as an industry. This dynamic conversation was moderated by publisher Jenny Taliadoros. Panelists include iconic fashion illustrators Jim Howard, David Wolfe, and Sandra Vanderpool. With Jane Burke, Curatorial Assistant, Denver Art Museum. These illustrators crossed the conventional boundaries of what defines "fashion illustration" transitioning from roles as commercial artists serving the world's most prominent fashion designers and retailers, into the world of paper doll artistry. Some people were born to free hand sketch, but unfortunately it wasn't so easy for me! My Grandmother taught me how to sketch at a very young age but I remember hating sketching faces and always asking her to create the faces and I would sketch the dress! Even when I got to college I still found a way to escape drawing a face and would turn in projects with blank faces until a professor at FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) taught me a trick I would like to show all of you! have fun with it!

SELF-TAUGHT ARTIST, MELSY, TURNED HOBBY INTO A BUSINESS

05:29
"Becoming Melsy" is a short introduction about the artist, Jamel Saliba, the owner and creator of Melsy's Illustrations. She is a self-taught fashion illustrator who left her 9-5 job and took a leap of faith by opening up her own business, Melsy's illustrations. Jamel's signature style consists of feminine and dainty fashion illustrations that are created without faces. Instead, she focuses her attention to detail on the hair and clothes of her pieces; this is done to make her artwork relatable to all audiences. Jim Howard, Fashion Illustrator

04:10
A look at the life and work of Denver's own Jim Howard, whose fashion illustration career spanned four decades. More than 100 of Howard’s illustrations — along with newspaper clippings and portraits he created will be featured in an upcoming exhibition at the Denver Art Museum. “Drawn to Glamour: Fashion Illustrations by Jim Howard,” runs from March 25 through July 22, 2018 and documents not only one Howard’s work, but also the evolution of drawing as a medium and the importance of it to American retailing in the second half of the 20th century.
