Fast Fashion Is Disgusting (you need to stop shopping at fashion nova, zara, and primark)
This is a video that I've need to make for a long time. And I'm happy it's coming out now! Throughout my time on Youtube I've shit on fast fashion brands without giving a real explanation, so here it is. This video is not meant to attack anyone, it's rather just me showing you guys something that you might not have known about how your clothes are made. Hopefully, we can change the way fashion currently works and with just a little bit of work and being defiant, I think it's possible. Fast fashion is a major contributor to the world's clothing waste problem. The FAST FASHION trap & how to escape | #whomademyclothes | Justine Leconte
Fast fashion is a quite recent phenomenon and it has completely changed the fashion industry. Here is my view on what fast fashion is, what the business model behind it is & what you and me can do, as individual consumers, to resist its negative effects and make informed decisions for ourselves. I had a lot to say about it so the video turned out quite long… forgive me! Oh, and if you wondered if a kid was screaming in the background, yes, the neighbors’ kids were extremely active during the entire filming time… Further readings: Project 3-33 MyGreenCloset reporting about her experience doing it for a full year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-TH4dDw5kU #whomademyclothes (e.g. on Instagram) and the Fashion Revolution every year in April The building that collapsed and killed over 1000 people in 2013: Rana Plaza, in Bangladesh Book: Overdressed, the shockingly high cost of cheap fashion, by Elizabeth Cline Give this video your two thumbs up… and subscribe to this channel because: - it is free! - you don’t miss any future video! the reality of not buying fast fashion
this video isn't mean to discourage anyone on this journey, but I thought I would talk about some of the biggest changes and struggles I've noticed in my first year of not buying fast fashion. of course these are bound to change as I continue on, and the most important thing is to stick with it! even if you can't stop buying fast fashion cold turkey, I encourage each of you to at least shop it a little less, thrift a little more, and think twice before you buy something ensuring you really love it before giving it a new home :) for more info watch this video | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjYeV7Bbd_g try the method I personally use for online counseling | https://www.tryonlinetherapy.com/sarahhawkinson ------------------------------------------------------------------ e m a i l | [email protected] i n s t a g r a m | http://instagram.com/sarahhawkinson t w i t t e r | https://twitter.com/#!/sarahmhawkinson d e p o p | https://www.depop.com/en-us/sarahhawkinson p a t r e o n | https://www.patreon.com/sarahhawkinson h o r r o r . c h a n n e l | http://bit.ly/1h7ZKUF v l o g . c h a n n e l | https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7nLpU9hf_QjLSxmKCeZ68Q ------------------------------------------------------------------ c a m e r a | canon rebel t5i e d i t o r | adobe premiere pro cs5.5 FTC | not a sponsored video #fastfashion #fashion

Which brands are “fast fashion”? How to tell (in 4 points) ǀ Justine Leconte
Fast fashion means that the brands produce in countries where labor is very cheap because the laws don't protect the garment workers. The clothes produced are of poor quality and execution, and they get sold at incredibly cheap prices in "rich countries". Since they are trendy in design, they will get out of fashion quite quickly. In fact, fast fashion brands even release new collections every 2 weeks, to make clothes previously purchased... obsolete. How to tell if a brand is "fast fashion": 1. Look at the brands producing in countries and factories where accidents happen. These brands clearly don't care about where and how their clothes get produced... 2. Research to which larger corporations these brands belong. It is very likely that a huge corporation like Inditex (Zara, Mango...) uses similar production methods for all its brands. 3. Understand the mindset of the brands / corporations that belong to the fast fashion industry: if they outsource their productions to countries where labor rights aren't respected, it is probably not to be charitable. Then claiming to use organic cotton (as an example of PR action) just can't make it up for ethically questionable practices. 4. Learn the break down of a price tag. If a Primark t-shirt costs 5€ in retail, how much of that actually goes to the garment worker? Thumbs up if you liked this video :-) If you subscribe to this channel and click on the bell, you will be notified when a new video goes live! Fashion Factories Undercover (Documentary) - Real Stories
Beyond the crumbling walls of sweatshops we find out the true cost of fashion. It’s April 23rd 2013, a busy commercial building in Dhaka, Bangladesh towers over thousands of workers, many of them children. As they toil away in a cramped sweatshop the force of the eight-storey building collapses on to them, killing more than a 1,000 people and permanently disfiguring a further 2,500. It emerges that this building had been condemned and not fit for purpose, yet many workers were caged for 14-hours a day with no escape. This was not just an unfortunate circumstance but one that could easily have been prevented. Through first-hand eyewitness accounts we will investigate the cause of the collapse and reveal how major international brands have ignored the warnings by continuing to use these unsafe buildings and put profit ahead of safety. Is it Ethical to buy Fast Fashion Secondhand?
Come for a walk with me! In this video I chat about why I think it's okay to buy fast fashion brands second hand and a few things to think about when doing so. As I've mentioned in other videos shopping secondhand is one of the most sustainable and ethical ways to buy clothes - you are not using any new resources or supporting unethical manufacturing, and you're reducing waste. It's also a very affordable way to reduce your impact and build a conscious wardrobe. I would love to hear your thoughts on this! My secondhand and thrift shopping tips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJHd81IHHGg Why I buy new and used clothing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gHzP1hvu0o Also I apologize about the quality and audio! Fast Fashion’s Effect on People, The Planet, & You | Patrick Woodyard | TEDxUniversityofMississippi
Mindful business: While working for a microfinance firm in Trujillo, Peru, Patrick was introduced to the broken Peruvian footwear industry made up of over 100,000 shoemakers who possess remarkable talent yet lack access to consistent work, fair-wages, and brand access to established international markets. Having had extensive exposure to such potential juxtaposed with a lack of access in other developing countries, Patrick developed a vision to push the fashion industry in a new direction by serving as one of the first fashion brands to deliver a superior yet ethically-produced product to consumers. Patrick is the Co-Founder & CEO of Nisolo. Patrick graduated from the Croft Institute for International Studies and Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College at the University of Mississippi. His experience using business as a force for good has led him across the globe ranging from Kenya and Uganda to Argentina and Peru. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Fast Fashion - what it is & why it’s problematic
In today vid we’re discuss fast fashion: what it is, why is problematic, as well as why it’s really vital we do something about it. We have all become far too comfortable with cheap, disposable clothing and need to know what the issues with our consumerism are and the ways we can make changes that will benefit both ourselves and the planet 🌎🌍🌏 ❤️SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/user/EmmaTheSarcasticFish Films: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPVT84Lqn5fiB5eUNeext0A 🧡"“The business model of fast fashion is based on consumers’ desire for new clothing to wear. In order to fulfill consumer’s demand, fast fashion brands provide affordable prices and a wide range of clothing that reflects the latest trends. This ends up persuading consumers to buy more items which leads to the issue of overconsumption [...] In recent years, the fashion cycle has steadily decreased as fast fashion retailers sell clothing that is expected to be disposed of after being worn only a few times. This dramatically shortens the consumers’ buying cycle. The quick changing stocks and low price of fashion goods encourage consumers to visit the store and make purchases more frequently. As a result, excessive stock and untrendy clothes tends to end up in landfills." 💛Anna's Video! What Colours Work for You?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49qYQpNjkhg 💚Further Reading! Is fast fashion destroying our environment?
In this Our Changing Climate environmental video essay, I look at the environmental impact of fast fashion. Specifically, I look at how fast fashion impacts climate change through the production process of polyester and post-consumption through waste. As a result, stores like H&M, Uniqlo, and Zara have huge carbon footprints and negatively affect the environment. Fast Fashion: Sweatshops I the Feed
April 24th marked the first anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh. It was an incident that sparked an international debate about where we source or clothes and our so-called addiction to 'fast fashion'. Fast fashion means more choice for the consumer and more revenue for the retailer. But, what does it mean for everything - and everyone - in between? Hi baby babes, just wanted to put up a quick little chat about my experience and thoughts about having fast fashion in my life. In no way am I putting anyone down who shops fast fashion, I just want to share my thoughts and experience with you guys! Obviously no one is perfect with this stuff and I don't claim to be but I am happy with the point I have gotten to. For me, I think the biggest problem lies in how much we consume and making better choices on what we need and where the products we buy come from. My biggest point is that we can all make small changes! You don't have to be one or another! IG; wearilive depop: wearilive Love ya'll Jenny

Are You A Good Influence? (Fast Fashion VS Sustainable Clothing)
Today's internet analysis is all about focusing on the influence of an influencer, specifically in the realm of fashion content on YouTube. Some fashion vloggers promote huge hauls of cheap Chinese retailers, some promote more sustainable, ethical, minimalist, or mindful shopping, and many fall somewhere in between. #fastfashion #sustainablefashion #internetanalysis "I spent $500 on Boohoo, Zaful, SheIn, FashionNova" ... is that good to promote to your audience? Is it good to glorify overconsumption and buying more clothing than you need? Of course not everyone is perfect, but I think influencers should be mindful of promoting less wasteful shopping habits. Shop a bit less at fast fashion giants like Forever21, and try to look for some pieces secondhand, thrifted, or at a sustainable store. How Zara Took Over The Industry Using Fast Fashion
Today, we’re going to look at the history of Zara, its parent company Inditex, and the fashion industry in general, to see how it became possible to create such a high churn rate in the fashion industry. An average American will throw away 77 pounds of clothing every year. And that’s true across the majority of the western world. That is two suitcases of clothes, just dumped. Zara’s first store opened in 1975, in a city called A Coruna in northern Spain. Owners Amancio Ortega and Rosalia Mera had wanted to name it after a favorite Greek film called Zorba the Greek, but a bar on their street had already beat them to the punch, so they settled for Zara, since they had already had the letters made for the sign. Inditex was set up in 1985 as holding company for Zara and the manufacturing plants. They went on to set up and take-over many other high-street brands that follow Zara’s format; such as Pull and Bear, Bershka and Stradivarius. They now have over 6000 stores globally. Zara’s early business model was to create similar copies to high end lines but at an affordable price. As they expanded through Spain, Ortega pushed the idea of instant fashion, where Zara could react incredibly quickly to new trends so they could put new lines on the shelves in a fraction of the normal time. -----------------Support the channel: Support this channel: https://www.patreon.com/alexberman SUBSCRIBE for more videos like this: http://youtube.com/alxberman?sub_confirmation=1 Check out our Digital Agency Marketing Podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/hr/podcast/digital-agency-marketing-1/id1200614219?mt=2&ls=1 Need lead generation or marketing support for your agency?
Why We LOVE Fast Fashion | Psychology of Shopping
Let's talk about what's going on in our brains while we're shopping and why it's difficult to change shopping habits. As with anything related to our brains, it's very complex and complicated and a lot is unknown. I'm also obviously not a Psychologist or Neuroscientist so I'm talking about this is a very simplified way, based on the research I've done. Also everyone's brain is different and people can respond differently to things like shopping. While clothing consumption is skyrocketing, partly due to a trend known as "fast fashion", the consequences are disastrous for both the environment and human lives. Today the textile industry is the most polluting in the world, after oil. All around the world, people are promoting ethical fashion. Fashion's Crippling Impact On The Environment Is Only Getting Worse (HBO)
The fashion week tents have been packed up and the models sent home until the next collection debuts, but one deeply entrenched industry trend shows no sign of stopping: Fast fashion, which has become one of the biggest sources of pollution in the world. According to a recent report, the textile industry emits more greenhouse gas emissions than international shipping and aviation combined. And the amount of waste the industry generates, as well as how much water and resources it uses, is increasing. Since 2000, global clothes production has more than doubled, and the average person now buys 60 percent more items of clothing every year and keeps them for about half as long as they did 15 years ago. In the USA, over 85 percent of those clothes end up in a landfill. China, which produces 50 percent of the world's textiles, and imports the largest amount of recycled clothing, has been dealing with pollution from the industry for decades: Most recycled clothing from around the world is up routed there and turned into recycled yarn. But starting this year, China will begin implementing a ban on the import of 24 solid materials, including textiles. Nate Herman, the Senior Vice President of Supply Chain for the American Apparel & Footwear Association told VICE News things are going to get much worse. “They have cut the source materials for recycled fabrics. It will have a very negative effect on our efforts to make the industry more sustainable,” he said. But recycling clothes currently is extremely difficult — much of our clothing is from blended fabrics or synthetic materials, meaning that it is often more time and resource intensive to recycle them than to just produce new clothes. Some experts, such as Ellen MacArthur whose foundation is leading the charge on creating a circular economy for textiles and who estimates that waste generated from textiles is worth $500 billion a year, believes that the fashion industry needs to go beyond just better recycling. The wastefulness of "fast fashion" and how some in the industry are fighting back
The number of fashion items produced around the world has doubled over the last two decades to more than 100 billion every year. More than 70% of that eventually end up in landfill. It's such a problem, cutting-edge designers are using more recycled material and major brands are pouring money into finding high-tech solutions.
