Fast Fashion Is Disgusting (you need to stop shopping at fashion nova, zara, and primark)
This is a video that I've need to make for a long time. And I'm happy it's coming out now! Throughout my time on Youtube I've shit on fast fashion brands without giving a real explanation, so here it is. This video is not meant to attack anyone, it's rather just me showing you guys something that you might not have known about how your clothes are made. Hopefully, we can change the way fashion currently works and with just a little bit of work and being defiant, I think it's possible. How fast fashion adds to the world's clothing waste problem (Marketplace)
Fast fashion is a major contributor to the world's clothing waste problem. Many of us give our old clothes to charity or drop them in a store take-back bin, but you might be surprised to learn most of it is sold and can end up in the landfill. Fast Fashion’s Effect on People, The Planet, & You | Patrick Woodyard | TEDxUniversityofMississippi
Mindful business: While working for a microfinance firm in Trujillo, Peru, Patrick was introduced to the broken Peruvian footwear industry made up of over 100,000 shoemakers who possess remarkable talent yet lack access to consistent work, fair-wages, and brand access to established international markets. Having had extensive exposure to such potential juxtaposed with a lack of access in other developing countries, Patrick developed a vision to push the fashion industry in a new direction by serving as one of the first fashion brands to deliver a superior yet ethically-produced product to consumers. Patrick is the Co-Founder & CEO of Nisolo. Patrick graduated from the Croft Institute for International Studies and Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College at the University of Mississippi. His experience using business as a force for good has led him across the globe ranging from Kenya and Uganda to Argentina and Peru. Which brands are “fast fashion”? How to tell (in 4 points) ǀ Justine Leconte
Fast fashion means that the brands produce in countries where labor is very cheap because the laws don't protect the garment workers. The clothes produced are of poor quality and execution, and they get sold at incredibly cheap prices in "rich countries". Since they are trendy in design, they will get out of fashion quite quickly. In fact, fast fashion brands even release new collections every 2 weeks, to make clothes previously purchased... obsolete. How to tell if a brand is "fast fashion": 1. Look at the brands producing in countries and factories where accidents happen. These brands clearly don't care about where and how their clothes get produced... 2. Research to which larger corporations these brands belong. It is very likely that a huge corporation like Inditex (Zara, Mango...) uses similar production methods for all its brands. 3. Understand the mindset of the brands / corporations that belong to the fast fashion industry: if they outsource their productions to countries where labor rights aren't respected, it is probably not to be charitable. Then claiming to use organic cotton (as an example of PR action) just can't make it up for ethically questionable practices. 4. Learn the break down of a price tag. If a Primark t-shirt costs 5€ in retail, how much of that actually goes to the garment worker? Thumbs up if you liked this video :-) If you subscribe to this channel and click on the bell, you will be notified when a new video goes live! The FAST FASHION trap & how to escape | #whomademyclothes | Justine Leconte
Fast fashion is a quite recent phenomenon and it has completely changed the fashion industry. Here is my view on what fast fashion is, what the business model behind it is & what you and me can do, as individual consumers, to resist its negative effects and make informed decisions for ourselves. I had a lot to say about it so the video turned out quite long… forgive me! Hello Awesome People, Today I talk about the problem with fast fashion. #fastfashionissue I know there has been already a lot of videos on the subject, but I think its important to spread the news anyway. The reason to repeat it is that fast fashion problem still grows. We all can fall into fast fashion trap!!! #consciousness The video is touching on the subject of manipulation in marketing, fake sales and discounts, cruelty towards employees and impact on the planet. #fastfashion I know that together we can change the way in which brands treat us. We are not stupid and we should not let huge conglomerates to treat us as such. If you agree, I would be happy if you share this video with as many people as you can. Support all the fast fashion employees by refusing to buy their clothes. #wecandoit Stay awesome!
this video isn't mean to discourage anyone on this journey, but I thought I would talk about some of the biggest changes and struggles I've noticed in my first year of not buying fast fashion. of course these are bound to change as I continue on, and the most important thing is to stick with it! even if you can't stop buying fast fashion cold turkey, I encourage each of you to at least shop it a little less, thrift a little more, and think twice before you buy something ensuring you really love it before giving it a new home :) for more info watch this video | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjYeV7Bbd_g try the method I personally use for online counseling | https://www.tryonlinetherapy.com/sarahhawkinson ------------------------------------------------------------------ e m a i l | [email protected] i n s t a g r a m | http://instagram.com/sarahhawkinson t w i t t e r | https://twitter.com/#!/sarahmhawkinson d e p o p | https://www.depop.com/en-us/sarahhawkinson p a t r e o n | https://www.patreon.com/sarahhawkinson h o r r o r . c h a n n e l | http://bit.ly/1h7ZKUF v l o g . c h a n n e l | https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7nLpU9hf_QjLSxmKCeZ68Q ------------------------------------------------------------------ c a m e r a | canon rebel t5i e d i t o r | adobe premiere pro cs5.5 FTC | not a sponsored video #fastfashion #fashion

Is fast fashion destroying our environment?
In this Our Changing Climate environmental video essay, I look at the environmental impact of fast fashion. Specifically, I look at how fast fashion impacts climate change through the production process of polyester and post-consumption through waste. As a result, stores like H&M, Uniqlo, and Zara have huge carbon footprints and negatively affect the environment. Hi baby babes, just wanted to put up a quick little chat about my experience and thoughts about having fast fashion in my life. In no way am I putting anyone down who shops fast fashion, I just want to share my thoughts and experience with you guys! Obviously no one is perfect with this stuff and I don't claim to be but I am happy with the point I have gotten to. For me, I think the biggest problem lies in how much we consume and making better choices on what we need and where the products we buy come from. My biggest point is that we can all make small changes! You don't have to be one or another! IG; wearilive depop: wearilive Love ya'll Jenny

The High Cost of Our Cheap Fashion | Maxine Bédat | TEDxPiscataquaRiver
Do you know where your clothes come from? The apparel industry is one of the biggest violators of both the environment and human rights. In this compelling and information-packed talk, co-founder of Zady Maxine Bédat shows how you can take back the power of your wardrobe, and feel better in (and better about) your clothes. Maxine Bédat is the co-founder and CEO of Zady, a fashion brand and lifestyle destination creating a transparent and sustainable future for the $1.5 trillion apparel industry. Fashion's Crippling Impact On The Environment Is Only Getting Worse (HBO)
The fashion week tents have been packed up and the models sent home until the next collection debuts, but one deeply entrenched industry trend shows no sign of stopping: Fast fashion, which has become one of the biggest sources of pollution in the world. According to a recent report, the textile industry emits more greenhouse gas emissions than international shipping and aviation combined. And the amount of waste the industry generates, as well as how much water and resources it uses, is increasing. Since 2000, global clothes production has more than doubled, and the average person now buys 60 percent more items of clothing every year and keeps them for about half as long as they did 15 years ago. In the USA, over 85 percent of those clothes end up in a landfill. China, which produces 50 percent of the world's textiles, and imports the largest amount of recycled clothing, has been dealing with pollution from the industry for decades: Most recycled clothing from around the world is up routed there and turned into recycled yarn. But starting this year, China will begin implementing a ban on the import of 24 solid materials, including textiles. Nate Herman, the Senior Vice President of Supply Chain for the American Apparel & Footwear Association told VICE News things are going to get much worse. “They have cut the source materials for recycled fabrics. It will have a very negative effect on our efforts to make the industry more sustainable,” he said. But recycling clothes currently is extremely difficult — much of our clothing is from blended fabrics or synthetic materials, meaning that it is often more time and resource intensive to recycle them than to just produce new clothes. Some experts, such as Ellen MacArthur whose foundation is leading the charge on creating a circular economy for textiles and who estimates that waste generated from textiles is worth $500 billion a year, believes that the fashion industry needs to go beyond just better recycling. Are You A Good Influence? (Fast Fashion VS Sustainable Clothing)
Today's internet analysis is all about focusing on the influence of an influencer, specifically in the realm of fashion content on YouTube. Some fashion vloggers promote huge hauls of cheap Chinese retailers, some promote more sustainable, ethical, minimalist, or mindful shopping, and many fall somewhere in between. #fastfashion #sustainablefashion #internetanalysis "I spent $500 on Boohoo, Zaful, SheIn, FashionNova" ... is that good to promote to your audience? Is it good to glorify overconsumption and buying more clothing than you need? Of course not everyone is perfect, but I think influencers should be mindful of promoting less wasteful shopping habits. Shop a bit less at fast fashion giants like Forever21, and try to look for some pieces secondhand, thrifted, or at a sustainable store. Featured creators and videos, plus a few other mindful shopping videos that I think y'all should watch! Fast Fashion: Sweatshops
April 24th marked the first anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh. It was an incident that sparked an international debate about where we source or clothes and our so-called addiction to 'fast fashion'. The Business of Fast Fashion
View full post: http://www.onlinemba.com/blog/business-of-fast-fashion 'Fast Fashion' refers to clothing and accessories that are designed to reflect current industry trends, yet produced using less expensive materials to ensure a low price tag. The Fast Fashion trend has also led to environmental concerns. Like us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/OnlineMBAcom Follow us on Twitter: http://twitter.com/OnlineMBA_com
The wastefulness of "fast fashion" and how some in the industry are fighting back
The number of fashion items produced around the world has doubled over the last two decades to more than 100 billion every year. More than 70% of that eventually end up in landfill. It's such a problem, cutting-edge designers are using more recycled material and major brands are pouring money into finding high-tech solutions. How Zara Took Over The Industry Using Fast Fashion
Today, we’re going to look at the history of Zara, its parent company Inditex, and the fashion industry in general, to see how it became possible to create such a high churn rate in the fashion industry. An average American will throw away 77 pounds of clothing every year. And that’s true across the majority of the western world. That is two suitcases of clothes, just dumped. Zara’s first store opened in 1975, in a city called A Coruna in northern Spain. Owners Amancio Ortega and Rosalia Mera had wanted to name it after a favorite Greek film called Zorba the Greek, but a bar on their street had already beat them to the punch, so they settled for Zara, since they had already had the letters made for the sign. Inditex was set up in 1985 as holding company for Zara and the manufacturing plants. They went on to set up and take-over many other high-street brands that follow Zara’s format; such as Pull and Bear, Bershka and Stradivarius. They now have over 6000 stores globally. Zara’s early business model was to create similar copies to high end lines but at an affordable price. As they expanded through Spain, Ortega pushed the idea of instant fashion, where Zara could react incredibly quickly to new trends so they could put new lines on the shelves in a fraction of the normal time. -----------------Support the channel: Support this channel: https://www.patreon.com/alexberman SUBSCRIBE for more videos like this: http://youtube.com/alxberman?sub_confirmation=1 Check out our Digital Agency Marketing Podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/hr/podcast/digital-agency-marketing-1/id1200614219?mt=2&ls=1 Need lead generation or marketing support for your agency?
Why We Can't Stop Buying Fast Fashion | Psychology of Shopping
Let's talk about what's going on in our brains while we're shopping and why it's difficult to change shopping habits. As with anything related to our brains, it's very complex and complicated and a lot is unknown. I'm also obviously not a Psychologist or Neuroscientist so I'm talking about this is a very simplified way, based on the research I've done. Fast fashion – Can paper replace textile?
Fast fashion is about quick sales and rapidly shifting trends. The idea is based on a linear business model without significant consideration for sustainability. Fast fashion needs to change at the core, and slow fashion needs to grow.

Fashion's naked truths | The Economist
Half of all clothes are thrown away within one year—many have never been worn. The industry's obsession with fast fashion comes with a steep environmental price tag. Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: https://econ.st/2xvTKdy Fashion is one of the fastest-growing industries on the planet. Around the world eighty billion new pieces of clothing are sold every year - 400% more than just forty years ago. Americans alone are buying five times more garments than in 1980. Now a $1.3 trillion mega industry, fashion employs more than 300 million people worldwide. While other industries have come apart at the seams, clothing production has doubled in the last 15 years. But it's a fashion statement with a steep environmental price tag - making one kilogram of fabric produces 23 kilograms of greenhouse gases. Textile production generates more carbon dioxide than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. Yet half of all clothes are thrown away within one year - many having never been worn. Fashion is now considered the second most polluting industry in the world after oil. And with increasing middle classes in the developing world keen to make their own fashion statement, this will get worse. If 80 percent of emerging markets reach Western levels of clothes shopping, carbon dioxide emissions could increase by nearly 80% per person. By 2050 total clothing sales could reach 175 million tons - turning the planet into the biggest fashion victim of them all.
