Now just a word of warning… this ‘Quick Lick’ is a tough one, so if you’re more of an advanced player you’re going to love it! If you’re not an advanced player, don’t worry - you can still learn something from this lesson. The lick itself is over a Cm7 tonality, but I want you to pay close attention to how many notes within this lick are ‘not’ contained within the Cm7 chord. Essentially they are what would be considered wrong notes, but what you’ll find is that they still work. But why? … Because of tension and release. I can play what would be considered ‘wrong notes’ within a line or lick, as long as I resolve them correctly. Now don’t get me wrong, there is method behind the madness - I’m not just playing any old note and hoping for the best. Every single note is there for a reason, even if it’s not within the Cm7 tonality. Ok, you ready? As always, see you in the shed… Scott 😄 === Right now over 10,000 bass players are enrolled in the Academy here at Scott's Bass Lessons and are making a real difference to their playing... if you're really serious about getting your bass playing together, click here to find out more and grab your FREE trial: http://bit.ly/2v9rQyp

Cool jazz soloing technique - the Cantus Firmus Method [ AN's Bass Lessons #20 ]

Support me on Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/adamneely In this episode we delve into the idea of cantus firmus as it can be applied to jazz soloing. Also know as the target tone method, cantus firmus can create a sturdy and lyrical framework for later melodic elaboration. Plus, it sounds cool saying you're borrowing a technique from an old 18th century counterpoint manual. Arnoud van den Berg Gypsy Jazz Bass course

02:29
https://www.soundslice.com/lessons/gypsy-jazz-bass/ In this video course, Arnoud shows you how to play upright bass in the style of gypsy jazz — the acoustic swing music of Django Reinhardt. Gypsy jazz is different from straightahead jazz, because the rhythm is provided by a rhythm guitar instead of drums. This calls for a different feel in the bass playing. Here, Arnoud dives into details on certain things you should and shouldn’t do when you’re trying to get a good sound in a gypsy-jazz band. The course is divided into three parts. First, for those of you who are coming from electric bass, Arnoud covers basic upright bass techniques. He talks about scales and some exercises to build strength and tone. Then he covers subtleties of bass playing that are particular to gypsy jazz — how to sound “in the style.” Finally, the bulk of the course focuses on playing real bass lines on standard tunes in the repertoire. The goal there is to give you plenty of specific bass lines to practice, and also to give you an idea of how Arnoud builds bass lines in general. The intended audience is beginner to intermediate upright bass players, or advanced players who have never played gypsy jazz. Perhaps you’ve played bass for a while but are new to the style, or perhaps you’re already playing gypsy jazz but want to get tips from somebody who’s been doing it for a long time. Like everything on Soundslice, this course is fully transcribed and has interactive notation synced with the video. Everything is notated in standard notation and tab. Enjoy the course!

SLAP MACHINE!!! nb: i never underestimate Japan quality, but unfortunately the noise from this bass is pretty noticeable even the cavity had been painted with conductive paint, it's because the conductive paint not connected to the aluminium foil on the control panel, i dont even know why they did this.. so i re-shielding this bass with aluminium foil from the cavity and the pickups. the result impressive, all noise is gone now

Jazz Bass Lessons with John Patitucci: Right Hand Position

05:44
John Patitucci (http://artistworks.com/john-patitucci) shows you 4 pizzicato techniques that will help develop your right hand playing. Pizzicato is plucking or picking the string. There are several ways you can do it. The first thing Patitucci would like you to learn is to use two fingers together. Putting the index finger and the middle finger side by side and using the flesh side of those two fingers to produce a nice plush sound. Think of the motion as a using the entire weight of your arm then letting it drop, pulling the sound. After you pluck, rest your finger on the string below it. Practice this across all the strings and get a feel for where your fingers rest after the pull. This can be most prominently seen in Ron Carter's performances. Another way you can do it is the one finger, using the index finger. Relaxed arms and the following the same pulling motion. This is very common in jazz. To pluck multiple strings, you can also use two fingers, once again, using the index and the middle fingers. Placing the middle finger on the lower string and the index finger on the higher string to perform a pizzicato during string crossings. Finally, for the faster passages, place your thumb on the fingerboard and use the two fingers on the same string, performing the same pull and rest motion. GUITAR STYLES: Jazz Guitar Chord Progressions

This Video: August 21, 2015 | Search Videos by Title/Date. THIS VIDEOS TAB's + LESSON PLAN available on: Sunday Aug. 23, 2015 at: http://www.andrewwasson.com/ Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question... Q: Jazz music is a really cool style and I've been learning some of the popular seventh chords used the songs. Each song has somewhat different jazz chord progressions, but they all seem to move around in similar ways. They also use most of the same chords. Could you make a lesson that breaks down the more common Jazz Guitar Chord Progressions? If I could work on a set of examples, I know I'd nail this stuff. Dino - Danbury, Connecticut USA A: Jazz chord progressions could be thought of as a more complex approach from the Blues format. Most guitarists have become familiar with Blues very early on. The Jazz format just uses an expanded chord vocabulary, applying the popular "Dominant 7th," chord - along with - the "Major 7th," the, "Minor 7th," and the occasional, "Min. 7(b5)." In Jazz we find two or three more chords than we will generally see in a typical Blues harmony. But, it's the movements of all these chords in Jazz progressions that we need to become familiar with. Once we're more aware of the most popular chord changes that show up in jazz, we'll be ready to begin expanding the voicings and we'll also be able to learn jazz pieces more quickly when we're asked to perform a jazz piece at a rehearsal. Build a Jazz Bass from a Kit

04:17
A video I made from photographs whilst building a Jazz bass guitar from a Kit. The backing track , 'That's How It's Gonna Go' was written recorded and perfomed entirely by me - NOT using this bass however. If you are interested you can hear more tracks on my myspace site - 'The Unexpected' is the band name I go under - http://www.myspace.com/kevblight The Guitar was from the TomoTone DIY guitarshop. http://www.diyguitarshop.co.uk / Email [email protected] - I am going to ask for a discount on my next kit guitar for posting this! You can only try :-) The end guitar isn't perfect - I did my best. It does sound good and it plays well. I think it was good value. You could buy a bass already made but I'm proud of this because I did it myself and it's in the style I wanted. Finally, although I'm no expert, I did learn a HELL OF A LOT whilst building this and I'm happy to share that with others. If you have a question I will try to answer it as best I can. Leave a comment and I will answer. Thanks for looking.

Here is another completed build. Its a Jazz style bass with a nice clear finished swamp ash body. The neck is hard maple with an ebony fingerboard. This is a 24 fretless neck finished in truoil with no amber dye. Pickups are Scheltones (that's me) Hardware is all black creating a nice contrast to the body and neck.
