Boarding Schools - what are they like?
For two years, I went to a British public boarding school, and recently, I attended a reunion. I talk about them. Support me on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/Lindybeige More ranty videos here:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL92609E6F61F4E5A4 It was difficult in the edit to achieve the balance I wanted, but this can be redressed in later videos. I recorded a few more pieces to camera and took more shots of the school. I don't feature the people there because this was a personal project, and it would be unfair to involve them in something they may find expresses opinions and ideas with which they disagree. Besides, I wanted to talk to old friends, not poke a camera in their faces. 10 Unbelievably Strict Schools
You think your school is strict, well you have not known anything strict unless you are a student of these 10 schools. They have the rules and you will have to follow them what so ever, if you don’t follow the rules well, The punishments are more fun you know. West London free school. Less of a school more of a prison. It does say London free school but in it you are not free. The basic rules no hats and gums in class short hairs proper school uniform does apply but here are some extra toppings. Students are required to spend four days in after school clubs to take part in skill developing classes from learning Arabic to Debating. The appearance is not compromised at all. The hair cuts are actually measured, you cannot have too short or too long hairs. A student was actually disciplined to have hairs 3mm short. Students have to line up to class and they have to rise up for every teacher that enters the class room. In Florida, a school has quite a different way of punishing students for not having a good test result or any such not good practices and the school has got the parents on their sides too. The punishment for the students that didn’t perform too well is that they have to walk through the school with a short notice about not such impressive school achievements tied around their neck. Imagine your social image in school being ruptured by your own wrong doings written on it. this is one way of making you self aware of yourself respect. Imagine yourself going to a university and following a dress code as in a school. Bob Jones University in South Carolina. The university intends its students to look in a certain way. Men are required to remain clean shaven have short hair cuts and cannot wear any tattoos or jewelry their side burns are even checked and they cannot have side burns any longer than your lower ear opening. Women have to make sure they wear dress with sleeves, no lower neck lines and their dress is not to tight to reveal their dresses. The university has actually banned Ambercrombie & Finch brand clothing for the students because they do not have the morals the school allow of. The school cafeteria is a place where students can have fun and be themselves yeah? Well not everywhere. A school in New Jersey has a different way of seeing things. In cafeteria students might have fun and having fun students might have food or water spilled by mistake probably. This school in New Jersey will punish students for having their food spilled. The punishment, okay this is a weird one. The punishment for having their food spilled is that they will have to eat the food from the floor yes…!! Just imagine how strict they would be for their studies. Brigham young University. This university took all the dress & appearance rules of the Bob Jones University and multiplied it by two. Women shorts must be below the knee and they can only have one ear piercing. Students of the opposite sex are only allowed to meet in the kitchen or living room areas. Use of alcohol and tobacco is prohibited on and off campus, so is any sort of overnight activities involving mix genders. Your hair cut is a very important part of your personality. There are many schools and universities that urge you to have short hairs or at least keep them good. However, one school in Milwaukee has a different view. You can have your hairs any way you like them but, if you are found playing with them during your class, a teacher may approach you and will try to play with them for you, in any way he might like. They will give you a hair cut of their like and you will probably not look likeable. The funny thing is that teachers, if fined will pay their fine but won’t stop their cutting practices unless they become professional barbers. But the teachers can be made to not practice that by having a shaved head. ------------------------- Images ------------------------- Pixabay Wikimedia Google Labelled for free use Wikipedia static.flickr

Turkey Allows Girls As Young As 10 To Cover Hair At Schools
In a further easing of generations-old restrictions on the public expression of faith, Turkey has lifted a ban on the Islamic-style headscarf in schools, allowing girls from the fifth grade and up to cover their hair. The government, whose roots are in political Islam, has already lifted a ban on religious garb for university students and female civil servants, scrapping curbs stemming from the founding of Turkey's secular republic in 1923 on the ashes of Islamic Ottoman Empire. After a cabinet meeting approved the changes, Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said late on Monday, "Our female students have yearned" for the end of the ban." http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/IDJvVFaci8A/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com

Should the hijab be banned in schools? || London Live Debate
In this episode of London Live Debate, presenter Reya El-Salahi asks: Should the hijab be banned in schools? It's a discussion sparked by Ofsted's calls for the government to do more to support teachers to make "tough decisions" after the head of St Stephen's primary school in Newham tried to ban girls under the age of eight from wearing the headscarf. The school later backed down under pressure from parents and has since apologised, calling the decision a "huge error in judgment". This week's panel includes the women and children's rights advocate Dr Diahanne Rhiney, the lawyer and columnist Andrew Kollington and the co-organiser of London's Women's March Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu.

13 Most Innovative Schools You’ll Want to Attend
From The Zoo School in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Harvey Milk High School in New York, New York here are 13 Most Innovative Schools You’ll Want to Attend. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr #6 - Visitacion Valley Middle School in San Francisco, California The Visitacion Valley Middle School is innovative for two major reasons, their implementation of “Quiet Time” as well as their extensive list of support services for the students, most of which are located within the Wellness Center. In 2007, Principal Jim Dierke implemented two 15-minute breaks one at the beginning and one at the end of the school day. That, coupled with the comprehensive care given to students in the Wellness Center, gives the students a great deal of much-needed support since Dierke explained that most of the students that attend the Visitacion have a family connection to someone who has seen a shooting, shot someone, or had been shot. The Wellness Center provides support through its programs like individual therapy, family case management, mentorship programs and different support groups that cater to specific groups such as all-girls and survivors of trauma. #5 - The Zoo School in Grand Rapids, Michigan What would be better than go to a zoo to learn? Not much. The Zoo School in Grand Rapids accepts 60 sixth-grade learners each year for a year-long learning experience that the students will surely write home about. In addition to the state required sixth-grade curriculum, students feed the zoo animals, raise salmon, sample water, and go on camping trips. Students also take classes in forestry, zoology, astronomy, chemistry, and physics. At the end of the year, each student is required to present an individual project which encourages them to hone their research and presentation skills throughout the year. If that doesn’t make you want to go back to school, I’m not sure what will. #4 - Harvey Milk High School in New York, New York Harvey Milk High School was founded in 2003 by the Hetrick-Martin Institute which is a social services organization created to foster and support at-risk LGBTQ youth. The school teaches things like health, specifically, HIV related, education, and job-readiness training. The school surrounds the youth with positive and understanding teachers and while adhering to the state’s educational standards, incorporates an LGBTQ perspective into the curriculum. In 2013, the National Climate Survey gave results that stated that over 55% of LGBTQ youth reported feeling unsafe at school because of how they were judged for their sexual orientation. This school is looking to change that. The students here enjoy the environment so much that the school had to create an “aging out” policy that required learners to move on once they turned 21. #3 - P-TECH High School in Brooklyn, New York P-TECH High School is one that takes learning to a whole level of education; I’m talking a six-year degree. P-TECH was launched by IBM in 2011 in order to give teens living in New York an alternate way into college that avoided the usual four-year high school track. At this school, high school and college are combined, and the student completes six years of classes. Boosted by mentorship and internships in the science, technology, engineering, or math fields, the fifth and sixth-year students earn an associate’s degree from the New York City College of Technology nearby. That’s a pretty sweet deal. #2 - The Avenues World School in New York, New York This innovative school aims to prepare children for the global challenges and opportunities students will face in the 21st century. The school has an immersive bilingual program that pairs the standard English found in all American schools, with either Mandarin Chinese or Spanish. The Avenue located in New York is the first of its kind, but its creators hope to eventually establish at least 20 other interconnecting campuses around the world. Each campus would teach the same curriculum as the next so that a student learning in London could transfer to Buenos Aires and continue with their education the following semester. #1 - The Orestad Gymnasium in Copenhagen, Denmark The Orestad Gymnasium is a series of four boomerang-shaped story decks inside of a giant glass cube. The high school is a public gymnasium in the Orestad district of Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2007, when the school moved to the building it resides in today, the event was attended by Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, and since then the Orestad Gymnasium has been one of the most sought gymnasiums in all of Denmark and much of the world. This innovative school is completely free of traditional classrooms, instead, there are four “study zones” that occupy the space. For its design, the building won the Forum Aid Award 2009 and was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award. With the tall central atrium and a rooftop terrace, this sure is a sweet place to study.

Thousands of children in London boys schools denied basic education
Newsnight featured our exposé about the 1000 or so boys in North London who are being educated outside of the legal school system, and denied even a basic education in subjects like English and maths. Instead, they learn nothing but Torah from dawn to dusk in buildings which in some cases fail health and safety requirements. See more at http://www.offthederech.site
