English Travel Vocabulary: Planning a Trip

07:08
http://www.engvid.com Are you going to travel? Make sure you're prepared with the vocabulary you will need for your business trip or vacation. In this lesson, I'll teach you the English vocabulary you must know for travel -- from preparing your travel itinerary and making reservations, to getting your visas and boarding your flight. It is essential that you know this basic English travel vocabulary, because English is an international language. ESL students who are studying abroad will find these words very helpful. Even if you are not travelling to an English-speaking country, as a tourist, you will need to communicate with people at the airport, and at tourist attractions. Watch this lesson, take the quiz, and have a safe trip! http://www.engvid.com/english-travel-vocabulary-planning-a-trip/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. Welcome again to www.engvid.com. My name is Adam. Today, I'm talking about a very interesting topic because, for example, in Toronto right now, it's very, very cold. I'm thinking about travelling; I would love to go somewhere hot to get away from this winter. So, when I travel, I have, of course, to make travel arrangements. So here, we have a list of words, a list of things that you must think about before you go on a trip to a different country. We're going to go over each of these. We're going to start with "booking" and "reservation". Now, many people think that this is more or less the same, which it is. To book something or to reserve something means to keep a place, to keep your place. You book a flight, you book a hotel room. Generally speaking, you make a reservation at a restaurant; you make a booking with a travel agency or with a hotel, with accommodations, any type of accommodation. Speaking of, accommodations are hotel, motel, hostel, B&B, bed and breakfast; all kinds of accommodations. Make sure you have a booking before you go, so your place is safe, it's kept for you. When you arrive, it's all good. Next, when you're at your destination, the place you're going to, you might want to "rent" a car. Okay? Sorry, this is accommodation. One thing I wanted to also make sure - "accommodations", without the "s", "accommodation" means something different. Okay? "Accommodations" is where you're going to sleep. And you might want to "rent" a car. You can also "hire" a car. Means the same thing. British people generally use "hire" more, North Americans use "rent" more often. Next, you have to think about your "baggage". Suitcase, luggage, bags, anything you're carrying with you. You might have "check-in baggage". Sorry, I don't know if you can see this guy. "Check-in baggage" and "carry-on baggage". "Check-in baggage" means you give it to the airline, they put it under the plane, you pick it up at your destination. "Carry-on" means you carry on, so you carry it on your shoulder on to the plane. Okay? In your carry-on, you have to be careful, it has to be small. You can't have liquids because of security and all that stuff. So things that you can't put in your carry-on, you must put in your check-in baggage and give to the airline. Next, when you get to the airport, assuming you're flying, you will have to do a few things that concern the word "boarding". Before you board your plane, get on your plane - you will get a boarding pass that lets you pass through security and into the airport. On the boarding pass, you will see your "boarding time", this is when you get on the plane and your "boarding gate", the place in the airport where you're going to get on your plane before takeoff. Okay? We can also use this for a train. You board a train, you get a boarding pass with a boarding time, and generally a boarding platform. Okay? So "boarding", getting on your vehicle, whatever vehicle that might be. You will also generally need to get a "visa" to many countries. Now, a "visa" is something that you use to get into a country, it gives you permission to stay in that country. But be aware: many places, if you're going through another country... So, for example: I'm going to country "C" via country "B". "Via" means by way of or through. So I might need a "transit visa", means I can go there, switch planes and keep going on my journey. But I'm still in another country, I need a transit visa. Excuse me. Also, make sure you're prepared to spend money as soon as you get to your destination. If you're going to a different country, that country will but using a different "currency", type of money. In Canada, we have Canadian dollar. America has American dollar. Okay? For things like that. In Europe, you need the euro. So make sure you have some of the currency before you go, or purchase it at the airport or at the destination you're going to.

How to start a tour company

08:24
http://www.evancarmichael.com/support/ - SUPPORT ME :) Like this video? Please give it a thumbs up below and/or leave a comment - Thank you!!! In this video I answer a question from one my readers who asked: Hi Evans am thinking of starting a tour company that would also source accommodation for its clients and would take clients to any destination in kenya for a reasonable fee.I have carried out a research to find out how we need to introduce ourselves in the market and also researched on things like competition and how to stand out from the rest also marketing whereby we need to network with agencies abroad and also from the east so that they can be sending us clients for a commission.I have contacted a few of them through the internet and they are positive. Our target group is local and international tourists, honeymooners, corporates having trips and team building activities. Our international airport here in nairobi also gets tourists who have no idea which tour company is taking care of them so the taxi drivers at the airport are also our target whereby when they bring clients we shall give them a commission based on the package the clients are taking. So it is a noble idea but the financial part to implement it is a problem.Am passionate about it because i have worked in the hospitality industry all my life so at least i got experience and the know how. I hope you will also like the idea. Thanks. Kind regards, Christine Githaiga.

http://www.expedia.com/Sydney.d178312.Destination-Travel-Guides Ready for an adventure? Click play on our travel guide video to uncover some of the best things to do in Syndey, Australia. Established in 1788 as a penal colony, Sydney was once a little rough around the edges, but it has since transformed into a must-visit coastal destination. Today, tourists flock to this city on the east coast of Australia for its pristine beaches, coves, and harbors. During your romp around the scenic coastline, make a stop at the Syndey Opera House and eye its magnificent architectural design. Looking for a little more adventure? Venture over to the Syndey Harbour Bridge, nicknamed “The Coathanger,” and brave a bridge climb tour. Next, hop on the antique thrill rides at Luna Park, which is a family-friendly favorite that dates back to 1935, or saunter around Darling Harbour. Meanwhile, if you’d prefer to make a splash, dive into the waves at Bondi Beach or hang ten at nearby Manly Beach. Dabble in the city’s history, architecture, and beach towns, and embark on several Sydney tours during your next trip to the capital of New South Walves. To jump-start your adventure and get more tips and ideas on how to spend your Sydney sojourn, check out our travel guide video. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on social media: Twitter: https://twitter.com/Expedia Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/expedia Instagram: http://instagram.com/expedia Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/Expedia/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Expedia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on our travel blog, Viewfinder: http://viewfinder.expedia.com/

My Daily Life In NORTH KOREA (MYSTERIOUS 7 DAY TRIP)

14:36
UPDATE - one year after visiting North Korea I traveled to South Korea and made a video comparing my experiences in both of these two countries. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJUSIWSaQX4 I've always been very interested in North Korea because it seemed to be one of the most unique and mysterious countries in the whole world. This is my day to day life throughout the 7 days that I spent in North Korea. You can never be sure whether things were staged or not in North Korea because you are only shown what they want you to see. You can't choose where or when you will be going to specific places, they simply tell you to hop on a bus and ask you to get off at one point or another. That is why I didn't want to offer my opinion about whether things were staged or not, whether they were good or not, or honest or not. My goal was to show you what my day to day life looked like when I was there and let you make up your own mind and judge for yourself. Do not judge North Korea only from what you see in this video. This is what they showed us and there's a reason they show some things and not show the others. Also, knowing how much control they exercise over the population, everything could have been staged only for us. My favorite books about North Korea: Dear Leader by Jang Jin Sung - http://amzn.to/2vEkrrE; Escape From Camp 14 by Blaine Harden - http://amzn.to/2vEz6U1; Nothing To Envy by Barbara Demick - http://amzn.to/2vzieiI; 1984 by George Orwell (I couldn't believe how similar some things in North Korea looked to the ones in the book) - http://amzn.to/2vE92s8. Top 10 Places to Visit in Singapore

Top 10 Places to Visit in Singapore SUBSCRIBE & CLICK THE BELL ► http://bit.ly/DBH-SUB SINGAPORE 4K DRONE FOOTAGE ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax_AaLQtwKI&t=27s MY FILM MAKING KIT ► https://kit.com/davidsbeenhere Welcome to Singapore, one of the smallest countries in the world. Singapore is an island state located off the southern tip of the Malaysian peninsula in Southeast Asia. Besides being the world’s 2nd wealthiest country (second only to Qatar), Singapore is extremely clean and safe, boasting superior air quality and of course tons of great things to see, do and eat! Welcome to Gardens by the Bay one of the most amazing and botanical gardens in the world. A few things you can see here is the flower dome, the cloud forest, several gardens and the supertrees. The Supertrees are living and breathing sculptures rising above the gardens. For epic views, head up to the top of these supertrees and stroll along the 22-meter-high aerial walkway known as the Skyway to experience the Marina Bay area from a bird’s eye view. Next up we visit China Town! It's a great place to do some souvenir shopping, eat some local Chinese food and walk around. One of the highlights about visiting Singapore is to eat at a hawker center. This is a huge food court full of stalls. You need to eat Indian, Malaysian and Chinese. It's very inexpensive! The Marina Bay Sands Hotel is one of Asia’s most iconic buildings and home to the world’s most renowned infinity pool. To visit the pool you must be a guest of the hotel, but you can experience incredible views from the Skypark observation deck or from one of the 57th floor restaurants. Welcome to the Singapore Zoo! It was founded in 1973, we take a quick tour through the zoo to see the asian animals. Singapore Zoo was the first zoo in the world to have free roaming orangutans. The River Safari is located right next to the Singapore Zoo. It’s a fascinating journey through some of the world’s largest river systems like the Nile and the Mississippi. I was especially excited to visit the Giant Panda Forest. We are inside Thian Hock Keng Temple. It was constructed in the 1840s using the best materials from China at the time. In 1973 it was declared a national monument. Admission is free! Orchard Road is a major tourist attraction, and when you look around it’s easy to see why. This is where you come for some serious retail therapy, and with more than 10 shopping centers, there is plenty to choose from. The 20-storey Paragon is perhaps the most famous along the strip, with stores like Gucci, Prada and Burberry. It boasts over 200 stores in all. The Singapore Flyer is the worlds largest observation wheel. This ferris wheel has 28 capsules, each fits 28 people and it takes 28 minutes to do a complete rotation. Little India is where the Indian community settled in over 200 years ago. Now a days it is a commercial district. They have converted these shop houses into restaurants, shops, jewelry stores and offices. It's a great place to buy gold and try indian food! Singapore’s Changi Airport is second to none! You may actually want to have a layover here because of how many things there are to do – from a butterfly garden, to shopping and dining, relaxation areas, movie theatre, art installations, a swimming pool, and much much more. Changi is my favorite airport in the world! There you have my top 10 places to visit in Singapore! What are your favorite spots? Cruise Travel - What You Should Know Before You Take a Cruise

16:00
http://www.croisieuroperivercruises.com/ http://www.croisieurope.travel/ Looking to do a European River Cruise? Maybe see some islands on a Caribbean Cruise? Want to Explore the World on an Around the World Cruise? Well here are some things that all cruise passengers should know before they take a cruise. Filmed in Trogir, Croatia (and somewhere on the sea on the Croatian coast). Copyright Mark Wolters 2017 1. Be Back on the Boat on Time. Many bigger cruise ships will not wait for late passengers and it will be the passengers job to catch up to the boat at the next port of call, which can be expensive. 2. Do Your Research. Not every cruise is the same even if they visit the same ports. Make sure you do your research on what amenities the ship has, what kind of entertainment, the cabins, the typical passengers, etc. 3. Cabins Will Be Small. So pack light and you may want to bring some air freshener to take care of some of those tight confine smells. 4. Seasickness Happens. On river cruises seasickness is not a big issue, however on bigger ships it may be. Ginger, Dramamine, seabands and a patch can help. 5. You will eat a lot on the cruise ship and you will eat well. Most cruise ships know that people love to eat and they make it their job to feed you as much as possible. Try to watch what you eat and maybe take a walk or two around the deck after dinner. 6. Pack Your Carryon Bag with Everything You Will Need for the First Day. On larger cruise ships you may not get your luggage for a few hours, so make sure you have everything you need in your carryon bag, whether it is swimsuits for the pool or medicine it is important to pack those in your carryon bag. 7. Don't Forget to Tip the Help. They do not get paid much and they work their butts off, so please do tip them. Your cruise line may already have it in your bill or they may leave an envelope for you to tip. 8. Don't Bring Anything That Could Start a Fire. There are some things that are usually banned from ships and they mostly are related to heating agents that could start a fire. Also, some ships ban alcohol from outside the ship as well, also weapons and drugs are no nos. 9. There Are Always Extra Costs. Whether signing up for excursions or a drinks package or whatever, there are usually extra costs on cruises, so the price you are quoted on may not be the end of your bill. 10. Ask for Help if You Need Anything. Cruise ships really do go out of their way to make your trip enjoyable, so if you have any issues or requests please let the crew know. They will most likely be glad to help. I filmed this while on a CroiseMer Cruise through Croatia & Montenegro. All the pictures and videos were taken while on my cruise (except for my power/travel strip, I got that picture at home). Learn English - Travel Vocabulary

15:47
http://www.engvid.com/ Learn important, basic words you will need when you travel. Knowing a little English vocabulary can help a lot when you are travelling. Whever you are going in the world, you can almost always find someone who speaks some English. I'll teach you how a "tourist attraction" is different from a "tourist trap". What about "sight seeing"? Do you know what an "itinerary" is? Do you have your travel documents? Get ready for your English to take flight! http://www.engvid.com/travel-vocabulary/ Hi. James, from EngVid. I was just about to plan my vacation. I'm going to take a long flight to Europe. I'm trying to remember luggage and baggage things, you know? It's kind of hard to do. But this is a lesson for you if you've been working a lot, you need some time off. Now, there's a video I would like you to go check out. That's on time off. It goes with this one. You might want to go away somewhere and not just stay home, right? So this video is for you. This is basic vocabulary on vacation. When you leave and maybe you go to an English speaking country and you want to practice your English, this stuff will be good for you to enjoy your time there, also to make it easy for you when you arrive. Are you ready? Let's go to the board. Mr. E, Mr. E! It's a mystery where he is. It's no mystery. And you thought I forgot. Mr. E has been on vacation with me, and he's enjoying this particular attraction. So let's go to the board. Now, if you're going to go on vacation, one of the first things you will have to do if you're leaving your country is you're going to need some travel documents. What are those? Documents. A "document" is a paper or something with information that tells you something is okay or outlines it for you. For example, your passport is a document given by the government with your picture on it that says you are a citizen of this country, and you are legal. You are a good person. Okay? Now, when you're leaving for a flight, or you want to go to another country, you're going to need travel documents first. Trust me; show up at the airport and go, "I leave now. I go to Canada." They will go, "And the car is that way. Go home, crazy man. Okay?" So we need travel documents. So what are "travel documents"? Well, "travel documents" would be your passport, government identification, usually needed at most places the travel. Inside of a country, not necessary for most places. But leaving the country, you have to have it. Okay? So if you're in the European Union, no problem. If you're in Canada and the United States, you don't need one. But as soon as you leave these countries, you need a passport. What's another thing you need? Well, you need what's called a "boarding pass". If you play soccer, you kick the ball; the other guy, he catches it; you "pass" right? The ball goes from one player to another. A "boarding pass" is what allows you to go from one country to another country. You show the person on the airplane this piece of paper with your passport, and they say, "You know what? You can come on the plane and fly, like the pass." Kick, catch, other country. Cool? All right. So these are your travel documents. You need those. Now, I should have started with you need to make a plan because you want to go visit some place. You want to go on vacation, right? And if you want to go on vacation, well, going to have to -- I said "vacation". A "vacation" is a holiday, another word for saying "time off from work". All right? So you want to go on vacation. Sometimes, we say, "We're going to vacation in Italy." Or "on my vacation, I want to visit Italy." Or "I'm taking a holiday in Italy." Okay? So all these words, when people say, "Well, what are you doing on your time off?" You might go, "I'm going on vacation." Then they know you're leaving. If you just say, "I'm taking time off from work", you could be home cleaning. But no. You're saying, "I'm going on vacation." They're going to go, "Where are you going to visit? Italy, perhaps? Sicily? Is it going to be a good holiday?" And you go, "Yes. I earned my time." "Earned" means to work for something. "I earned my time off. I'm going on vacation."
