Oracle: How To Optimize Performance When The Top Event Is DB CPU - Webinar

01:18:42
In this webinar Oracle Ace, Craig Shallahamer, will demonstrate how to do an Oracle time based analysis including integrating the OS situation into our analysis and finding the true “top” SQL. This journey includes a trip into Oracle’s library cache, memory access control and some interesting ways to improve SQL statement performance. Overall performance sucks as far as the users are concerned. After months of meetings management finally wants you to get involved. You run an AWR report for one of the most intense hours and notice the top “event” is "DB CPU" followed by "cursor: pin S wait on X”. This is where the webinar begins!

Understanding and Optimizing Oracle Latches/Mutexes - Webinar

01:04:39
Understanding and Optimizing Oracle Latches/Mutexes. Oracle memory serialization control is core to Oracle database operations. One of the most fascinating topics in Oracle internals and performance optimization is memory serialization. We will look at the circumstances in which serialization is used, how it works, how to influence its operation, and how to diagnose problems. It's a complex situation; in order to get the upper hand on serialization control, this presentation will explore the lock (a little), the latch (a lot), and the mutex (a whole lot). Topics will include: performance diagnosis, how Oracle implements latches and mutexes, and related internal algorithms. Special attention will be given to the library cache mutex operations. This is a practical, yet deep internals presentation filled with amazing discoveries about how Oracle works. For more information go to www.orapub.com

Understanding And Resolving Oracle CBC Wait/Latch Contention - Introduction

07:10
Understanding And Resolving Oracle CBC Wait/Latch Contention When a server process needs to access a buffer it must access the cache buffer chain (CBC) structure to determine if the buffer is already in the buffer cache. With just the right workload mix, performance can be a problem. Learning about the relevant Oracle internals and how to diagnose and solve CBC performance problems is what this seminar is all about. Java and Raspberry Pi Programming - Installing Java Native Interface (JNI)

15:08
Throughout my Java SE and Raspberry Pi tutorials, I have kept the coding at the highest possible level in order to keep things as simple as possible. All along I knew that at some point I would have to use Java Native code to communicate at a very low level with the GPIO. I need to use PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) to control the speed of the motor on the Land Cruiser. The Raspberry Pi only has one hardware PWM pin and I am using that one to control the steering, so I will need to use the C pigpio library to produce another PWM signal to control the Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) for the motor. I will go over the pigpio library in a future tutorial. Java SE 8 comes preinstalled on the Raspberry Pi 3, but it is missing several key components of the JNI - so we will need to download and install it.

Link for code samples used in the demo http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2013/07/part-62-implementing-search.html Link for csharp, asp.net, ado.net, dotnet basics, mvc and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists In this video, we will discuss, implementing search page in an asp.net mvc application. We should be able to search by Employee Name and Gender. We will be using table tblEmployee for this demo. Use the script below to create and populate the table with sample data. Create table tblEmployee ( ID int identity primary key, Name nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(10), Email nvarchar(50) ) Insert into tblEmployee values('Sara Nani', 'Female', '[email protected]') Insert into tblEmployee values('James Histo', 'Male', '[email protected]') Insert into tblEmployee values('Mary Jane', 'Female', '[email protected]') Insert into tblEmployee values('Paul Sensit', 'Male', '[email protected]') Step 1: Create an empty asp.net mvc 4 application. Step 2: Generate ADO.NET entity data model from database using table tblEmployee. Change the entity name from tblEmployee to Employee. Save changes and build the application. Step 3: Add HomeController with the following settings. a) Controller name = HomeController b) Template = MVC controller with read/write actions and views, using Entity Framework c) Model class = Employee d) Data context class = SampleDBContext e) Views = Razor Step 4: Modify the Index() action method in HomeController as shown below. public ActionResult Index(string searchBy, string search) { if (searchBy == "Gender") { return View(db.Employees.Where(x =] x.Gender == search || search == null).ToList()); } else { return View(db.Employees.Where(x =] x.Name.StartsWith(search) || search == null).ToList()); } } Step 5: Copy and paste the following code in Index.cshtml view. @model IEnumerable[MVCDemo.Models.Employee] @{ ViewBag.Title = "Index"; } [div style="font-family:Arial"]
Employee List
[p] @using (@Html.BeginForm("Index", "Home", FormMethod.Get)) { Search By: @Html.RadioButton("searchBy", "Name", true) [text]Name[/text] @Html.RadioButton("searchBy", "Gender") [text]Gender[/text][br /] @Html.TextBox("search") [input type="submit" value="search" /] } [/p]

[th] @Html.DisplayNameFor(model =] model.Name) [/th] [th] @Html.DisplayNameFor(model =] model.Gender) [/th] [th] @Html.DisplayNameFor(model =] model.Email) [/th] [th]Action[/th]
@if (Model.Count() == 0) {
No records match search criteria
} else { foreach (var item in Model) {
@Html.DisplayFor(modelItem =] item.Name) @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem =] item.Gender) @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem =] item.Email) @Html.ActionLink("Edit", "Edit", new { id = item.ID }) | @Html.ActionLink("Details", "Details", new { id = item.ID }) | @Html.ActionLink("Delete", "Delete", new { id = item.ID })
} }
[/div] Please make sure to replace [ with LESSTHAN and ] with GREATERTHAN symbol.

Provenance for System Troubleshooting

01:04:25
Google Tech Talk October 2, 2012 Presented by Marc Chiarini ABSTRACT System administrators use a variety of techniques to track down and repair (or avoid) problems that occur in the systems under their purview. Analyzing log files, cross-correlating events on different machines, establishing liveness and performance monitors, and automating configuration procedures are just a few of the approaches used to stave off entropy. These efforts are often stymied by the presence of hidden dependencies between components in a system (e.g., processes, pipes, files, etc). In this presentation, I argue that system-level provenance (metadata that records the history of files, pipes, processes and other system-level objects) can help expose these dependencies, giving system administrators a more complete picture of component interactions, thus easing the task of troubleshooting. SPEAKER INFO Marc Chiarini (key-uh-ree-nee) worked in IT for 10+ years before returning to Tufts University and receiving a PhD under his advisor Alva Couch. He likes to float on the thermals between theory and practice and his primary goal is to improve the lives of those in the IT admin community. To that end, he has researched and written on digital provenance, autonomic computing, performance analysis, virtualization security, dependency analysis, system configuration management, and system administration. In 2010 Marc began a two-year computing innovation postdoc at Harvard under the tutelage of Margo Seltzer, and will be seeking a research position in academia or industry starting in 2013.

RubyConf 2016 - Ruby’s C Extension Problem and How We're Solving It by Chris Seaton

35:28
RubyConf 2016 - Ruby’s C Extension Problem and How We're Solving It by Chris Seaton Ruby’s C extensions have so far been the best way to improve the performance of Ruby code. Ironically, they are now holding performance back, because they expose the internals of Ruby and mean we aren’t free to make major changes to how Ruby works. In JRuby+Truffle we have a radical solution to this problem – we’re going to interpret the source code of your C extensions, like how Ruby interprets Ruby code. Combined with a JIT this lets us optimise Ruby but keep support for C extensions.

Next, we will teach you how to enable it and then set up the ActiveX controls on your computer. In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to enable ActiveX in internet explorer. Step 1 -- Test for ActiveX Before we teach you how to enable ActiveX in internet explorer, it is important that you check if ActiveX is already supported. In order to do that, log on to the website "pcpitstop.com\testax.asp". When the sites opens up you will be notified that ActiveX is not supported. Step 2 -- Go to ActiveX filtering Now click on gear icon which is located at the top right corner of page and move over to "Safety". Over there, click on the "ActiveX Filtering" option to enable the feature which will download activex for internet explorer. Step 3 -- Agree to the notification prompt Now refresh the current page and a notification will pop up letting you know that a script is trying to access an ActiveX control. Simply click on "Yes" to allow it to download activex for internet explorer. Step 4 -- Enabled ActiveX With that done, you can see the time being displayed on the webpage, which means that you have enabled ActiveX. Step 5 -- Disable ActiveX An alternate way to disable ActiveX filtering is by moving to the address bar on top and clicking on the blue icon right before the refresh icon. A pop up window will open up letting you know that some contents on the website are filtered. Over here, click on the turn off ActiveX filtering option and the feature will be disabled. Step 6 -- Open Internet Properties via run You can also open up the Internet Properties window to set up ActiveX controls. For that, open up the run command by using the shortcut key "windows+r". With that done, type in "inetcpl.cpl" and hit the enter key. Step 7 -- Go to Custom level security In the internet properties window, move over to the "Security" and click on the "Custom Level" button. Step 8 -- Allow Scriptlets Over here, move to the "ActiveX controls and plug-ins section and enable the Allow Scriptlets feature. Step 9 -- Prompt for unsigned ActiveX controls For the "Download unsigned ActiveX controls" option, click on "Prompt". This is so that only the recommended updates are automatically installed. Whenever an unsigned ActiveX control will require an update, you will be notified first. Step 10 -- Enable script active x controls for scripting Lastly, move to the "Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting" section and enable the feature. With these settings, ActiveX controls will automatically be able to update themselves as and when required. Step 11 -- Apply changes Now click on the Ok button to save the changes made and exit. And that's it.

This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article: IBM AIX Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago. Learning by listening is a great way to: - increases imagination and understanding - improves your listening skills - improves your own spoken accent - learn while on the move - reduce eye strain Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone. Originally released for the IBM 6150 RISC workstation, AIX now supports or has supported a wide variety of hardware platforms, including the IBM RS/6000 series and later POWER and PowerPC-based systems, IBM System i, System/370 mainframes, PS/2 personal computers, and the Apple Network Server. AIX is based on UNIX System V with 4.3BSD-compatible extensions. It is one of six commercial operating systems that have versions certified to The Open Group's UNIX 03 standard (the others being macOS, Solaris, Inspur K-UX, HP-UX, and eulerOS).The AIX family of operating systems debuted in 1986, became the standard operating system for the RS/6000 series on its launch in 1990, and is still actively developed by IBM. It is currently supported on IBM Power Systems alongside IBM i and Linux. AIX was the first operating system to have a journaling file system, and IBM has continuously enhanced the software with features such as processor, disk and network virtualization, dynamic hardware resource allocation (including fractional processor units), and reliability engineering ported from its mainframe designs.

My Friend Irma: Irma's Inheritance / Dinner Date / Manhattan Magazine

01:29:46
My Friend Irma, created by writer-director-producer Cy Howard, is a top-rated, long-run radio situation comedy, so popular in the late 1940s that its success escalated to films, television, a comic strip and a comic book, while Howard scored with another radio comedy hit, Life with Luigi. Marie Wilson portrayed the title character, Irma Peterson, on radio, in two films and a television series. The radio series was broadcast from April 11, 1947 to August 23, 1954. Dependable, level-headed Jane Stacy (Cathy Lewis, Diana Lynn) began each weekly radio program by narrating a misadventure of her innocent, bewildered roommate, Irma, a dim-bulb stenographer from Minnesota. The two central characters were in their mid-twenties. Irma had her 25th birthday in one episode; she was born on May 5. After the two met in the first episode, they lived together in an apartment rented from their Irish landlady, Mrs. O'Reilly (Jane Morgan, Gloria Gordon). Irma's boyfriend Al (John Brown) was a deadbeat, barely on the right side of the law, who had not held a job in years. Only someone like Irma could love Al, whose nickname for Irma was "Chicken". Al had many crazy get-rich-quick schemes, which never worked. Al planned to marry Irma at some future date so she could support him. Professor Kropotkin (Hans Conried), the Russian violinist at the Princess Burlesque theater, lived upstairs. He greeted Jane and Irma with remarks like, "My two little bunnies with one being an Easter bunny and the other being Bugs Bunny." The Professor insulted Mrs. O'Reilly, complained about his room and reluctantly became O'Reilly's love interest in an effort to make her forget his back rent. Irma worked for the lawyer, Mr. Clyde (Alan Reed). She had such an odd filing system that once when Clyde fired her, he had to hire her back again because he couldn't find anything. Useless at dictation, Irma mangled whatever Clyde dictated. Asked how long she had been with Clyde, Irma said, "When I first went to work with him he had curly black hair, then it got grey, and now it's snow white. I guess I've been with him about six months." Irma became less bright as the program evolved. She also developed a tendency to whine or cry whenever something went wrong, which was at least once every show. Jane had a romantic inclination for her boss, millionaire Richard Rhinelander (Leif Erickson), but he had no real interest in her. Another actor in the show was Bea Benaderet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Friend_Irma_%28radio-TV%29 Katherine Elisabeth Wilson (August 19, 1916 -- November 23, 1972), better known by her stage name, Marie Wilson, was an American radio, film, and television actress. She may be best remembered as the title character in My Friend Irma. Born in Anaheim, California, Wilson began her career in New York City as a dancer on the Broadway stage. She gained national prominence with My Friend Irma on radio, television and film. The show made her a star but typecast her almost interminably as the quintessential dumb blonde, which she played in numerous comedies and in Ken Murray's famous Hollywood "Blackouts". During World War II, she was a volunteer performer at the Hollywood Canteen. She was also a popular wartime pin-up. Wilson's performance in Satan Met a Lady, the second film adaptation of Dashiell Hammett's detective novel The Maltese Falcon, is a virtual template for Marilyn Monroe's later onscreen persona. Wilson appeared in more than 40 films and was a guest on The Ed Sullivan Show on four occasions. She was a television performer during the 1960s, working until her untimely death. Wilson's talents have been recognized with three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: for radio at 6301 Hollywood Boulevard, for television at 6765 Hollywood Boulevard and for movies at 6601 Hollywood Boulevard. Wilson married four times: Nick Grinde (early 1930s), LA golf pro Bob Stevens (1938--39), Allan Nixon (1942--50) and Robert Fallon (1951--72). She died of cancer in 1972 at age 56 and was interred in the Columbarium of Remembrance at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood Hills. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Wilson_%28American_actress%29

Our Miss Brooks: Another Day, Dress / Induction Notice / School TV / Hats for Mother's Day

01:43:12
Our Miss Brooks is an American situation comedy starring Eve Arden as a sardonic high school English teacher. It began as a radio show broadcast from 1948 to 1957. When the show was adapted to television (1952--56), it became one of the medium's earliest hits. In 1956, the sitcom was adapted for big screen in the film of the same name. Connie (Constance) Brooks (Eve Arden), an English teacher at fictional Madison High School. Osgood Conklin (Gale Gordon), blustery, gruff, crooked and unsympathetic Madison High principal, a near-constant pain to his faculty and students. (Conklin was played by Joseph Forte in the show's first episode; Gordon succeeded him for the rest of the series' run.) Occasionally Conklin would rig competitions at the school--such as that for prom queen--so that his daughter Harriet would win. Walter Denton (Richard Crenna, billed at the time as Dick Crenna), a Madison High student, well-intentioned and clumsy, with a nasally high, cracking voice, often driving Miss Brooks (his self-professed favorite teacher) to school in a broken-down jalopy. Miss Brooks' references to her own usually-in-the-shop car became one of the show's running gags. Philip Boynton (Jeff Chandler on radio, billed sometimes under his birth name Ira Grossel); Robert Rockwell on both radio and television), Madison High biology teacher, the shy and often clueless object of Miss Brooks' affections. Margaret Davis (Jane Morgan), Miss Brooks' absentminded landlady, whose two trademarks are a cat named Minerva, and a penchant for whipping up exotic and often inedible breakfasts. Harriet Conklin (Gloria McMillan), Madison High student and daughter of principal Conklin. A sometime love interest for Walter Denton, Harriet was honest and guileless with none of her father's malevolence and dishonesty. Stretch (Fabian) Snodgrass (Leonard Smith), dull-witted Madison High athletic star and Walter's best friend. Daisy Enright (Mary Jane Croft), Madison High English teacher, and a scheming professional and romantic rival to Miss Brooks. Jacques Monet (Gerald Mohr), a French teacher. Our Miss Brooks was a hit on radio from the outset; within eight months of its launch as a regular series, the show landed several honors, including four for Eve Arden, who won polls in four individual publications of the time. Arden had actually been the third choice to play the title role. Harry Ackerman, West Coast director of programming, wanted Shirley Booth for the part, but as he told historian Gerald Nachman many years later, he realized Booth was too focused on the underpaid downside of public school teaching at the time to have fun with the role. Lucille Ball was believed to have been the next choice, but she was already committed to My Favorite Husband and didn't audition. Chairman Bill Paley, who was friendly with Arden, persuaded her to audition for the part. With a slightly rewritten audition script--Osgood Conklin, for example, was originally written as a school board president but was now written as the incoming new Madison principal--Arden agreed to give the newly-revamped show a try. Produced by Larry Berns and written by director Al Lewis, Our Miss Brooks premiered on July 19, 1948. According to radio critic John Crosby, her lines were very "feline" in dialogue scenes with principal Conklin and would-be boyfriend Boynton, with sharp, witty comebacks. The interplay between the cast--blustery Conklin, nebbishy Denton, accommodating Harriet, absentminded Mrs. Davis, clueless Boynton, scheming Miss Enright--also received positive reviews. Arden won a radio listeners' poll by Radio Mirror magazine as the top ranking comedienne of 1948-49, receiving her award at the end of an Our Miss Brooks broadcast that March. "I'm certainly going to try in the coming months to merit the honor you've bestowed upon me, because I understand that if I win this two years in a row, I get to keep Mr. Boynton," she joked. But she was also a hit with the critics; a winter 1949 poll of newspaper and magazine radio editors taken by Motion Picture Daily named her the year's best radio comedienne. For its entire radio life, the show was sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive-Peet, promoting Palmolive soap, Lustre Creme shampoo and Toni hair care products. The radio series continued until 1957, a year after its television life ended. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Miss_Brooks

Auburn Coach Wife Kristi Malzahn Agrees with Match & eHarmony: Men are Jerks

12:23
My advice is this: Settle! That's right. Don't worry about passion or intense connection. Don't nix a guy based on his annoying habit of yelling "Bravo!" in movie theaters. Overlook his halitosis or abysmal sense of aesthetics. Because if you want to have the infrastructure in place to have a family, settling is the way to go. Based on my observations, in fact, settling will probably make you happier in the long run, since many of those who marry with great expectations become more disillusioned with each passing year. (It's hard to maintain that level of zing when the conversation morphs into discussions about who's changing the diapers or balancing the checkbook.) Obviously, I wasn't always an advocate of settling. In fact, it took not settling to make me realize that settling is the better option, and even though settling is a rampant phenomenon, talking about it in a positive light makes people profoundly uncomfortable. Whenever I make the case for settling, people look at me with creased brows of disapproval or frowns of disappointment, the way a child might look at an older sibling who just informed her that Jerry's Kids aren't going to walk, even if you send them money. It's not only politically incorrect to get behind settling, it's downright un-American. Our culture tells us to keep our eyes on the prize (while our mothers, who know better, tell us not to be so picky), and the theme of holding out for true love (whatever that is—look at the divorce rate) permeates our collective mentality. Even situation comedies, starting in the 1970s with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and going all the way to Friends, feature endearing single women in the dating trenches, and there's supposed to be something romantic and even heroic about their search for true love. Of course, the crucial difference is that, whereas the earlier series begins after Mary has been jilted by her fiancé, the more modern-day Friends opens as Rachel Green leaves her nice-guy orthodontist fiancé at the altar simply because she isn't feeling it. But either way, in episode after episode, as both women continue to be unlucky in love, settling starts to look pretty darn appealing. Mary is supposed to be contentedly independent and fulfilled by her newsroom family, but in fact her life seems lonely. Are we to assume that at the end of the series, Mary, by then in her late 30s, found her soul mate after the lights in the newsroom went out and her work family was disbanded? If her experience was anything like mine or that of my single friends, it's unlikely. And while Rachel and her supposed soul mate, Ross, finally get together (for the umpteenth time) in the finale of Friends, do we feel confident that she'll be happier with Ross than she would have been had she settled down with Barry, the orthodontist, 10 years earlier? She and Ross have passion but have never had long-term stability, and the fireworks she experiences with him but not with Barry might actually turn out to be a liability, given how many times their relationship has already gone up in flames. It's equally questionable whether Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, who cheated on her kindhearted and generous boyfriend, Aidan, only to end up with the more exciting but self-absorbed Mr. Big, will be better off in the framework of marriage and family. (Some time after the breakup, when Carrie ran into Aidan on the street, he was carrying his infant in a Baby Björn. Can anyone imagine Mr. Big walking around with a Björn?)
