Infrastructure as Code: Deploy an Enterprise Kubernetes Cluster in Oracle Cloud with Terraform
Kubernetes has become the go-to platform to manage and deliver solutions in the cloud. Will all the power Kubernetes provides comes a steep learning path, with all the concepts to all the parts to cover it can be difficult to determine what are the relevant parts to put attention to and when deciding to deploy a cluster into a cloud environment. In this session I will explore the use of Terraform, a tool for building, changing, and versioning infrastructure safely and efficiently and also an Oracle project called terraform-kubernetes-installer We will explore HA recommendations and also tasks such as deploying, and scaling up and down a Kubernetes cluster all this with the ability to keep track though versioning of all infrastructure changes. App Migration to Azure: Moving your virtual machines from VMware step-by-step guide
Jeff Woolsey, principal program manager from the Windows Server team, explains and demos the steps to discover, assess and migrate Windows and Linux virtual machines from VMware to Azure. The new Azure Migrate service helps you find on-premises VMs and apps using a collector appliance, then exposes VM attributes - including utilization, sizing and dependency information - to help you plan your migration. Azure Site Recovery then provides the tools to replicate discovered and targeted VMs into Azure storage, then allows you to test and move workloads into production. Along the way, Jeff explains how the tools in Azure help you determine costs and take advantage of potential cost savings via the Azure Hybrid Benefit for Windows Server. To learn more, go to the Azure migration center http://www.azure.com/migrate. To see how VMs can be secured and managed once in Azure, check out the recently published "Steps to securing and managing your VMs in Azure" show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAXz8zK8bks. Best Practices for Implementing IAAS: Cava
CAVA is a code name for VMware's internal project/set of best practices implementing infrastructure as a service for VMware internal IT Dev Ops. Using vRealize Automation to provision vRealize Automation managed Development Environments, provides service catalog items, powered by event broker service, vRealize Operations Server, Infrastructure Service and software components that work together to deploy operational vRealize Automation environments hosted in vCenter in under an hour with a single click. Sets up a full environment complete with test users and groups. CAVA also automatically reclaims old vRealize Automation instances so you don't have to. CAVA allows VMware to use the scale of its own IT environments to test and improve the quality of its products' new features before they go out to customers. (v3)
Lift and Shift VMware and Physical Workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
Many enterprise applications are spread over virtualized and physical infrastructures in data centers: app servers on VMware and database on physical. This split architecture has traditionally required replatforming, renetworking, and refactoring when moving the application to public cloud—a painful and time-consuming endeavor. In this session learn how the Oracle Cloud infrastructure can run your on-premises application spread over VMware virtualized and physical infrastructures as-is in under a day.

AWS re:Invent 2017: Serverless Architectural Patterns and Best Practices (ARC401)
As serverless architectures become more popular, customers need a framework of patterns to help them identify how they can leverage AWS to deploy their workloads without managing servers or operating systems. This session describes reusable serverless patterns while considering costs. For each pattern, we provide operational and security best practices and discuss potential pitfalls and nuances. We also discuss the considerations for moving an existing server-based workload to a serverless architecture. The patterns use services like AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway, Amazon Kinesis Streams, Amazon Kinesis Analytics, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon S3, AWS Step Functions, AWS Config, AWS X-Ray, and Amazon Athena. This session can help you recognize candidates for serverless architectures in your own organizations and understand areas of potential savings and increased agility. What’s new in 2017: using X-Ray in Lambda for tracing and operational insight; a pattern on high performance computing (HPC) using Lambda at scale; how a query can be achieved using Athena; Step Functions as a way to handle orchestration for both the Automation and Batch patterns; a pattern for Security Automation using AWS Config rules to detect and automatically remediate violations of security standards; how to validate API parameters in API Gateway to protect your API back-ends; and a solid focus on CI/CD development pipelines for serverless, which includes testing, deploying, and versioning (SAM tools).
