Patenting for Inventors Ep. 11 - Claim Drafting Part 3 - Anatomy of a Method Claim

12:16
In this episode I go through the anatomy of a method claim.  I go through the various types, such as claims for new and non-obvious steps to accomplish a goal, a method of making a product, and product by process claims.  I use simple examples such as a hypothetical claim to patent frying an egg and an actual patented method of making guacamole and a product by process claim for guacamole.

Cost Allocation of Joint Products and By-Products

02:50
Joint Products Joint products are two or more outputs having significant values that are generated from a single production process and that uses common inputs. In cost accounting, all of the outputs of a single process are not joint products, only those that have significant economic value are considered joint products. Any outputs having insignificant economic value and which are not primarily desired to be manufactured are termed as by-products. This differentiation is needed because costs accountants typically allocate all the costs incurred on a joint production process to joint products. No costs are typically allocated to by-products. Few examples of joint products are: Processing of crude oil to obtain gasoline, diesel, asphalt, jet fuel and lubricants Production of butter, cheese and cream from milk Different grades of wood obtained from a same kind of tree The point at which a joint process yields separately identifiable joint products is called split-off point. Cost are allocated to joint products at split-off point using one of several methods including: Physical measurement method: allocation of joint costs based on the quantity of each joint product manufactured. Net realizable value method: allocation of joint costs based on sale price less any additional expenses to be incurred before sale. Some of the joint products may need further work after split-off point in a separate process to bring them into usable or saleable form. In such cases it is necessary to perform such additional work to avoid loss and the total cost of the resultant product includes additional expenses incurred after slit-off. Joint products that are useable/saleable at split-off point may also be further processed but the management of a company will assess whether or not such additional work will result in net incremental benefit. If the increase in value of the joint product from further processing exceeds the additional expenses needed to further process, it is beneficial to further process the joint product. Example Bestwood Inc. is engaged in basic wood processing and supplies following products: Lumber Firewood Sawdust All of the above products are obtained from a joint process. Here, lumber and firewood are joint products whereas sawdust is a by-product due to its insignificant value. All of the three products may be further processed e.g. sawdust may be compressed to create wood pallets which are used as a biofuel.

My Marketing Plan Process - 6 Steps to Marketing Any Business (Products or Services)

06:13
My Marketing Plan Process - 6 Steps to Marketing Any Business (Products or Services) // Have you ever marketed your company and just found that everything you're doing isn't working? Today I'm going to share with you my marketing planning process, six steps to marketing any company. RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________ My (Daring) 5 Year Business Plan For The Neil Patel Brand (video): https://youtu.be/IXb_b9JbmkA Ubersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/ CrazyEgg: https://www.crazyegg.com/ SurveyMonkey: https://pt.surveymonkey.com/ ____________________________________________ Just because you market something in a specific way that someone else teaches you, doesn't mean it's going to work. You need a plan. The first thing you need to do, is to define your goals. Do you want more traffic for brand awareness? Do you want more revenue? Do you just need more leads? Are you trying to get more e-commerce sales? You got to define your goals, because if you don't define your goals, you're not going to know exactly what you need to take in order to achieve them. The second thing you need to do is understand your customer. I'm not talking about, hey, you sell toilet paper, you provide mortgage loans and your customer is looking for that. That's just on the surface level. I'm talking about really understand your customer. Because once you understand that, you can leverage that to make sure that they choose you. And the way you understand your customers is you talk to them. It's not just about looking at analytics like Google Analytics. It's about surveying them, do tools like SurveyMonkey. It's about picking up the phone, dialing them, talking to them, getting feedback, showing them your website, showing them your product, showing them your marketing messages. If you truly understand your customers, you can figure out what makes them tick, and then from there, you'll boost your sales, traffics, and leads. The third step you need to do is assess key strengths. Just because marketing has all these different channels, doesn't mean that you should focus on all of them at once. Yes, eventually, you want to take an omnichannel approach, which is leveraging all the different marketing channels, but at the beginning, you need to assess your key strengths, and then leverage those first. Step four, pick one marketing channel. You already assessed your key strengths. Now it's time to go with one channel. You may have five strengths, you may have one strength. You want super laser focus, because when you tackle one channel first, and you do really well with it, you're much more likely to get results. Now, it's time for you to do competitive research, look at your competitors, what's working for them? Once you figure out what's working for them, you can then get a good understanding of what you should replicate and what you should avoid. The last thing you want to do is do the opposite of what your competitors are doing. Especially when they're already established and making money. So what I want you to do is head over to Ubersuggest, put in a URL of your competitors. You'll see a report, it shows either traffic, shows you their top pages. When you click on top pages, you can see things like their most popular pages, how many links they have, how many social shares each of these pages have, what keywords they're ranking for. This will all give you ideas on what you should be focusing on and what you shouldn't be. Step six, this last but not least, define how you're going to make money. Even though you're attracting people to your site, it doesn't mean that they're just going to raise their hand and be like, hey Neil, let me throw some money at you. But the thing is, getting traffic is only half the battle. You got to convert those people. You need to figure out how you're going to make money. And I wish there was a generic blank answer, but it's different for every single business. But once you have that, you can then come up with ways to figure out how to maximize the conversion and drive people down that path. Whether it's through tools like HelloBar that helps you collect emails. Or whether it's tools like Subscribers, that helps people get back to your site, and you can push them to, let's say, your Amazon pages. Or whether it's through things like Crazyegg, where you can run AB testing. ► If you need help growing your business check out my ad agency Neil Patel Digital @ https://neilpateldigital.com/ ►Subscribe: https://goo.gl/ScRTwc to learn more secret SEO tips. ►Find me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/neilkpatel/ #Marketing #NeilPatel #DigitalMarketing

How to give great customer service: The L.A.S.T. method

10:13
http://www.engvid.com/ Do you work in customer service? What do you do when your customer has a problem? In this video, I will teach you how to give great customer service. You will learn many polite expressions you can use with your customers. I will explain the Listen, Apologize, Solve, and Thank (L.A.S.T) method, which will help your performance at any customer service job. I'll also give you my customer service tips for dealing with an angry customer. After this video, watch Rebecca's video about phone customer service: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBSrZYXkkyE Take the quiz at http://www.engvid.com/how-to-give-great-customer-service-the-last-method/ TRANSCRIPT Hello. My name is Emma, and in today's video I am going to teach you a very, very important thing for customer service. I used to work in customer service, and this is actually one of the most important things I learned, and this is called the L-A-S-T or LAST approach. So, to get started, let's talk a little bit about: What is customer service? So, customer service is when you have customers, of course, and you're trying to make your customers as comfortable and happy as possible. You're also trying to meet their needs and expectations, and solve any problems or situations that they might have. So, customer service is a huge category. There's many, many different jobs where you use customer service. If you work in a hotel, for example, as a clerk, you know, in the lobby, as a bellhop, you will be using customer service. If you work at a restaurant as a server, you'll be using customer service, or as a hostess. If you're the manager of a store, you'll be using customer service. If you work in a business or even in a hospital, you'll be using customer service. So, pretty much any time you're dealing with people from the public and they're customers and you're trying to help them, you're doing customer service. So, there are many different problems that a customer might have. What are some examples of some problems? Can you think of anything, a problem a customer might have? Maybe somebody charged them too much for something, maybe they're in a store and the lineups are too long, maybe a customer is at a hotel and they're very unhappy because the Wi-Fi isn't working or their bed's uncomfortable. So, there's so many different problems customers might have at different types of businesses. In this video what I'm going to teach you is: What do you do when a customer has a problem? Okay? So, a very easy thing to do when a customer has a problem is called the LAST approach. "LAST", what does it stand for? Well, if a customer has a problem, the first thing you should do is listen to their problem, the next thing you should do is apologize, solve their problem, and thank them. So: Listen, Apologize, Solve, and Thank. We're going to look at expressions we use to show we're listening, expressions to apologize, expressions that can help us solve problems, and expressions to thank customers. Okay, so the first step when a customer has a problem is to listen. So, the first thing you should do is find out what the problem is. You can ask them: "What seems to be the problem?" or "How can I help you?" Okay? Once they start explaining what the problem is, very important that you look like you're actually listening and that you do listen. Okay? So, you shouldn't look at your watch: "Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm." Okay? That's a bad idea. You shouldn't look at the sky: "Uh, when is this person going to stop talking?" Okay? You shouldn't roll your eyes. Okay? No, no, no. You need to show that you actually care about what the customer is saying. So, showing you're listening is very important. You can repeat back to the customer what they're saying to show that you understand and to make sure that you did understand. So: "So what you're saying is, you know, there's no hot water in this hotel.", "So what you're saying is the Wi-Fi's not working and you're not happy with that." Okay? These are some examples. "So what you're saying is _________." You can also say: "Let me get this right..." "Let me get this right, what you're saying is that, you know, there's a problem at your table.", "What you're saying is that you've been waiting for your food for a really long time." So it's important to show that you are listening and you acknowledge what they have said. Okay. Now, sometimes with customer service you get a customer who's very angry, and maybe they start swearing, they start using very bad language. Okay? So if this happens, very important that you don't get upset. Okay? When this happened to me in the past, I would actually pretend to be a computer. I would not take anything personally. I would just smile and pretend to be a computer, and that's how I got through angry customers. So, if the person is rude... You know, it's not right if somebody is saying something rude to you, if they're swearing at you, or they're making you feel uncomfortable. So, be polite. Okay?

Deep into the IoT trenches: how to build a connected product by Jeroen Mols

50:47
Don't you love making your app robust against network failures? Now imagine your app talking to a Wi-Fi connected product... Locally when your home or via a server when you’re not. You'll certainly love handling those network switches!... And what if your app doesn't just control one product, but multiple ones? Some locally, some remotely connected?... Or how about having multiple users controlling the same product at the same time?... It goes without question that building apps for connected products is incredibly challenging. From device discovery, over minimizing network requests to out of the box setup, this talk will cover it all. Packed with code examples, architecture suggestions and tons of best practices, you'll learn five years’ worth of hard earned experience. This won't just kick start your IoT app development skills, but it'll also teach you how to keep your app scalable and maintainable towards the future. Starting as early as 2011, Jeroen has built an impressive range of connected products: BT LE coffee machines, Wi-Fi speakers, connected air purifiers and even full blown connectivity libraries. Currently he is the main responsible for the official Philips Hue apps Jeroen Mols has a real passion to build things, which continuously challenges him to experiment and learn. In the process refocussed his master in Electrical engineering to become an Android developer. Starting off with highly technical prototypes for Wi-Fi connected products, he build his own file sharing platform (Wi-FileTransfer). Currently he drives the innovation for the official Philips Hue Android and iOS apps. One of a kind, never-been-done before apps are what he enjoys most and complex systems, highly technical apps have become his expertise. Currently Jeroen helped realize four huge connected products, various high profile apps (e.g. Nieuwsblad), actively contributes to open source and loves interacting with the Android community.

RUDIS Wrestling Podcast #55: Exclusive Anatoly Beloglazov Interview

01:39:23
Spreading the Message On this special episode, Matt Dernlan sits down with Olympic Gold Medalist, 3x World Champion, and International Coach, Anatoly Beloglazov as well as Anatoly's son Alex for an exclusive interview. Beloglazov is currently in the middle of his second tour around the USA putting on world-class wrestling clinics. Dernlan starts by asking Beloglazov what his overall goal is and why he's willing to travel across the world to share his knowledge. Beleglazov says he wants to promote wrestling around the world. He enjoys working with and teaching all levels of wrestlers. How it All Began (4:20) Dernlan asks how most kids are introduced to wrestling in Russia. Beloglazov says it is very similar to the USA but Russia doesn't have many brands that represent, sponsor, and uplift wrestling like other sports have. From an outsiders perspective, it seems wrestling is the premier sport of Russia but Beloglazov says this is far from reality. Beloglazov talks about schools in Russia where athletes live, learn, and train and how every sport not only wrestling has that. The recruiting process for these schools is similar to the college one in the USA. The athletes are fully funded and paid for also similar to college athletes. Beloglazov was walking home from soccer practice and happened upon a building where they were having a wrestling practice. He was invited in and enjoyed it so he brought his brother back with him the next day. Build the Foundation (14:58) In Russia, after young wrestlers learn the basics, coaches start to introduce more difficult and technical techniques. Beloglazov says the older you get the more individualized your training becomes and you get put together with others on your level. He says in the USA he has many more parents asking him to have their very young wrestlers go live instead of technique drilling. This is different than in Russia where parents and coaches don't push inexperienced wrestlers in that way. Sports Academy (25:45) Circling back to the topic of sporting schools and the process that system entails, Dernlan asks about what the next step after an athlete has been at the school for 3-4 years. In Russia, College is between high school and University and you can get a 2-year education before moving to University. There are sporting Universities where they specialize in careers within athletics. For example, Beloglazov was a wrestler and his other classes were sports science, nutrition, history all geared towards wrestling. A difference between the USA and Russia is that most of our coaches are elected because of their accomplishments as an athlete competing in the sport. In Russia, this is not the case and to be a high-level coach you must get certification via a degree. Wrestling Then vs Now (55:08) The conversation shifts to how Russian wrestlers make money by wrestling in different countries, wrestling leagues. In the United States, we have regional training centers and high-level athletes can get paid to train there. This is not state sponsored but rather community sponsored through donors who are passionate about wrestling. While Beloglazov was coming through the ranks he was not allowed to go wrestle for another country that is no longer the case. This brings up how when the Soviet Union broke apart into different republics it was easier for Russians to make their respective national teams but harder for the USA because instead of wrestling against one super team we had to defeat up to fifteen wrestlers representing their country. Beloglazov says it was harder to make the national team than to win Worlds. Beloglazov gives insight on how the world team selections are made. Even if you're the number one ranked wrestler or win nationals it doesn't mean you make the team. If coaches don't think you'll be ready they will find someone else who is. Snyder vs Sadulaev (1:07:00) Dernlan asks how Russians reacted when Kyle Snyder beat Abdulrashid Sadulaev. Beloglazov says they told Sadulaev the things he needed to work on and get better at. In today's world wrestlers can watch any match they want online and don't have to travel to watch the best wrestlers in the world. Dave Schultz (1:15:50) Beloglazov talks about his history with Dave Schultz. He first met him in the USA in the 1970s. Russian's had a hard time figuring him out because he always had a relaxed presence and didn't get nervous. It took them time to realize Dave was a different person on and off the mat. What made Dave great was not his power or strength but rather his mind for wrestling and his relentless studying, drilling, and perfecting of technique.
