Patenting for Inventors Ep. 11 - Claim Drafting Part 3 - Anatomy of a Method Claim

12:16
In this episode I go through the anatomy of a method claim.  I go through the various types, such as claims for new and non-obvious steps to accomplish a goal, a method of making a product, and product by process claims.  I use simple examples such as a hypothetical claim to patent frying an egg and an actual patented method of making guacamole and a product by process claim for guacamole.

11 Foods Whose Quality You Can Easily Check

09:04
There are many ways to check the quality of the food products we eat every day. However, most of them require the assistance of professionals or special equipment. We at Bright Side suggest only those you can do all by yourself at home or even right in the supermarket. For example, to figure out whether your cottage cheese has some starch in its content is add a drop of iodine to this product. If there's starch in it, the stain will turn deep blue. If the color remains brown or dark yellow, the cottage cheese doesn't contain any additives. In addition, cottage cheese that contains vegetable fats will become yellow if left at room temperature. As for fresh, natural cottage cheese, it might taste a bit sour after this test, but its color will remain the same. Cottage cheese that is about to go bad will have pockets of liquid, which indicates that the process of separation has started. If you wanna know what other checks there are, watch the video! TIMESTAMPS: Cottage cheese 0:40 Chicken 1:26 Sour cream 2:28 Honey 3:16 Frozen veggies, berries, and fruits 4:14 Fish 4:40 Meat 5:35 Cheese 6:14 Herbs 6:57 Eggs 7:36 Ice cream 8:17 #freshproducts #freshmeat #foodquality Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - Fresh chicken meat is pink. Avoid buying poultry that looks gray, yellowish, or translucent. Even if the meat looks pink enough, inspect the crevices under the thighs and wings. The meat itself should be neither too stiff nor too soft, and the skin should spring back after you touch it. - A moldy, stinky, or rancid sour cream will clearly tell you that the product has gone bad. You should also pay attention to the color of sour cream. If it's yellow or discolored, it may have fungi or bacteria growth inside. - If the product has a caramel flavor, this may indicate that the honey has been previously heated. And if honey is excessively sweet, this means that white sugar has been added to the product. - If a package of frozen veggies, berries, or fruits has pieces of ice or snow inside (or if you can feel big, solid blocks of food), the product hasn't been stored properly. The chances are high that the food has been thawed and then refrozen. Freshly frozen packaged foods should have only a thin layer of frost covering them. - When you choose fish, first check its smell. High-quality fresh fish will have a clean and briny sea smell. A suspicious “fishy” odor means that the fish isn't good. - When you choose meat, poke it with your finger. If the meat is fresh, your fingerprint will disappear. According to professional chefs, properly stored cold meat should be hard. - You can also leave a piece of cheese at room temperature. If this cheese is of high quality, it will become softer. If it gets drier or liquid appears on its surface, the quality leaves much to be desired. - If you need to check the freshness of herbs, hold a bunch of them in your hand. If the leaves are hanging over the sides, these herbs have already wilted. Moreover, if the stems are too long and the color is too dark, this product is likely to contain nitrates. Fresh herbs are known for their natural green color. - If you don't want to crack the egg but need to figure out if it's still OK to use, put it in a cup filled with water. A fresh egg will drop to the bottom of the cup and lie on its side. If the egg drops to the bottom but stands upright, you can eat it — but do this as soon as possible. - If the quality of ice cream is high and its ingredients are natural, it will melt into a thick creamy substance with a white color. Joris explained how Google's product teams solve these types of problems. Joris van Mens is a Product Manager at Google, where he is focused on building new technology for users in emerging markets. 5 Mistakes New Importers Make When Importing Products from China

13:39
Discover the 5 mistakes new importers make when they are importing products from China. Don’t make the same mistakes! Get our free ebook: http://wholesaleted.com/4-step Freightos: http://wholesaleted.com/go/freightos First mistake importers make when importing products from China: Assuming that shipping by sea will be the cheapest option A lot of new importers think they will save money if they ship by sea rather than air. On the surface it seems cheaper as importers usually pay around 60 cents/KG when shipping via sea, compared to the $7/KG when shipping by air courier. Unfortunately what they don’t realize is that the reason it’s that cheap is because when shipping via sea, you ship via container, and you need to rent an entire container. They are very large and require you to be shipping hundreds of KGs to be making it worth your time. If you are an Amazon private label seller, you are unlikely to have enough stock being shipped to fill a container by at least 60-70% so it will be cheaper to ship by air. When shipping by air, you have two options: 1) Air freight 2) Air courier Air courier is when you have your items shipped door-to-door. It is the easiest but the most expensive per KG (although in smaller quantities it is cheaper). Air freight is when you have your items flown from one airport to the other. You will need to organize other additional services: * Having the items delivered to the airport * A customs broker * Having the items delivered from the airport to the final location. There are a lot of fixed fees with this which means it becomes cheaper to use air freight with larger quantities. To figure out which option will be cheaper for you, I recommend using Freightos. Second mistake importers make when importing products from China: Not using the Metric system In China, they use the Metric system and not the Imperial system. So be sure to use KGs instead of lbs and CM instead of inches. It’s important to remember that when working with Chinese suppliers that they expect you to work on their terms and their timeframes. It can be frustrating, but it’s worth it for the cheap Chinese products you import! Third mistake importers make when importing products from China: Using Less than Container Load for shipping When shipping by sea, you have two options: 1) FCL which stands for Full Container Load 2) LCL which stands for Less than Container Load Inexperienced importers fall for the trap of shipping with LCL because they see that the price are extremely cheap. What they don’t realize is that these LCL companies have special deals with the ports to charge you extremely high Destination Service Charges. The LCL companies then make their money in the form of a “rebate” which is essentially commissions/kickbacks. Destination Service Charges are usually priced per-container and cost between $500-$1000 per container for ports in the USA. But when shipping by LCL you end up paying a high fee per cubic meters. It means that you often end up paying a fee comparable to shipping an entire container. Don’t fall for this trap: If you can’t break even with FCL, then ship by air. Fourth mistake importers make when importing products from China: not calculating the correct duties you will need to pay When you import products from China, you will need to pay duties at the border. If you don’t calculate the correct rate you can get a shock if it comes back as more than you expected. Duties can be a bit complicated to work out because there are a lot of variables. For example, if you imported woolen jackets, you need to consider which country the wool came from, as some countries (like Israel) have duty-free agreements over wool, which would reduce the duties you had to pay. On the other hand if synthetic fibres were used instead of pure wool, then your duty rates would be higher since there are higher duties applied to synthetic fibres within the USA. To figure out what your duty rate is, find out what the HTS (Harmonized Tax System) code is for your item. To find this, ask your Chinese supplier as they will most likely know. You can then go through the HTS manual and find what the duty rate is for the HTS code of your products. Fifth mistake importers make when importing products from China: being afraid to make mistakes And finally - don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Through making mistakes you learn how to overcome them the next time and make even more money. Mistakes are apart of entrepreneurship. Learn from others - and learn from your own as well!

Manufacturing Cost Reduction Software Toyota Method

02:46
Imagine how would you manage Factory-level Cost Reduction if your key customer demands an immediate 10% Price Reduction on your best selling Product ? Do you want to learn how Toyota would do it? If you manage by the old traditional 10% method, you will simply tell your managers to reduce costs by 10%? This method was good enough when manufacturing was simpler and competition less fierce. You need a better method now because modern factories make small-lot, high-mix, ever more complex Products over 10 to 20 processes. The partly-processed products going from process to process encounters various problems due to equipment losses and production wastes. Findiing and measuring them can reveal the hidden Cost Reduction opportunities for your Continuos Improvements Teams. How? The Toyota Motor's Kai'zen Target Costing Method for cost reduction (http://maaw.info/ArticleSummaries/ArtSumTanaka94.htm) complements Continous Improvement activities. It is now available in a software and enhanced with our proprietary Modeling Algorithms for searching out Product Cost Reduction opportunities. The LeanCost Solution extracts from your factory's BIG DATA the relevant financial and manufacturing indices to give you accurate, Product-by-Product and Process-by-Process critical information on where the high-impact Cost Savings opportunites are. LeanCost works in 3 Simple Steps. Step 1 - LeanCost analyses the Cost Gap between the Current Product Cost Versus the "Zero-Loss Cost" to reveal the Cost Reduction Opportunites. Step 2 - Using the Modeling Function, Process Owners can then identify the Manufacturing Losses which have the highest ROI potential for Cost Reduction activities. Step 3 - LeanCost then tracks the Improvement Projects' ROIs from Big Data and reports both the Manufacturing & Financial Indices and compares to the Baseline before the projects start. LeanCost runs separately from your existing Financial Systems and gives Manufacturers 4 Leading-Edge Benefits 1) World-class Factory Cost Reduction Tool enhanced with Continuous Improvement Modeling functions. 2) Accurate Individual Product Cost for better Pricing Strategies. 3) Fosters Management / Employee Cost-Ownership and Partnership 4) Supports all Lean 6S, OEE, Process Improvement Teams based on ROI. EZR extruder tested on the Ender 3

07:29
I think the standard Ender 3 extruder does a great job when 3D printing. However, the EZR extruder from SeemeCNC claims to be especially good at flexibles, so for $35 I thought I would order one and put it to the test. To be thorough, I modelled a test file and set it up in Simplify3D with multiple process, upping the speed every 5mm. Cost Allocation of Joint Products and By-Products

02:50
Joint Products Joint products are two or more outputs having significant values that are generated from a single production process and that uses common inputs. In cost accounting, all of the outputs of a single process are not joint products, only those that have significant economic value are considered joint products. Any outputs having insignificant economic value and which are not primarily desired to be manufactured are termed as by-products. This differentiation is needed because costs accountants typically allocate all the costs incurred on a joint production process to joint products. No costs are typically allocated to by-products. Few examples of joint products are: Processing of crude oil to obtain gasoline, diesel, asphalt, jet fuel and lubricants Production of butter, cheese and cream from milk Different grades of wood obtained from a same kind of tree The point at which a joint process yields separately identifiable joint products is called split-off point. Cost are allocated to joint products at split-off point using one of several methods including: Physical measurement method: allocation of joint costs based on the quantity of each joint product manufactured. Net realizable value method: allocation of joint costs based on sale price less any additional expenses to be incurred before sale. Some of the joint products may need further work after split-off point in a separate process to bring them into usable or saleable form. In such cases it is necessary to perform such additional work to avoid loss and the total cost of the resultant product includes additional expenses incurred after slit-off. Joint products that are useable/saleable at split-off point may also be further processed but the management of a company will assess whether or not such additional work will result in net incremental benefit. If the increase in value of the joint product from further processing exceeds the additional expenses needed to further process, it is beneficial to further process the joint product. Example Bestwood Inc. is engaged in basic wood processing and supplies following products: Lumber Firewood Sawdust All of the above products are obtained from a joint process. Here, lumber and firewood are joint products whereas sawdust is a by-product due to its insignificant value. All of the three products may be further processed e.g. sawdust may be compressed to create wood pallets which are used as a biofuel.

For example, the task of defining the requirements for an IT solution is handed to Business Analysts as well as Subject Matter Experts, Developers, System Analysts, Product Owners, Project Managers, Line Managers, or any other business expert. In this KnowledgeKnugget™ you will learn what business analysis techniques and tools are most commonly used around the world based on surveys of actual business analysts. This KnowledgeKnugget™ answers questions like: 1. What are the primary activities in business analysis? 2. What tools or techniques do they use? To view more IT requirements training, visit the Business Analysis Learning Store at http://businessanalysisexperts.com/business-analysis-training-store/. PARTIAL TRANSCRIPT: Business analysis is the process of studying a business or any other organization to identify business opportunities / problem areas and suggest potential solutions. A wide range of people with various titles, roles and responsibilities actually apply business analysis techniques within an organization. There are three fundamentally different flavors or levels of business analysis: 1. Strategic Business Analysis (aka Enterprise Analysis) (http://businessanalysisexperts.com/strategic-business-analysis/ ) 2. Tactical Business Analysis (http://businessanalysisexperts.com/tactical-business-analysis/) 3. Operational Business Analysis (http://businessanalysisexperts.com/operational-business-analysis/Operational Business Analysis) Strategic Business Analysis is the study of business visions, goals, objectives, and strategies of an organization or an organizational unit to identify the desired future. It encompasses the analysis of existing organizational structure, policies, politics, problems, opportunities, and application architecture to build a business case for change. This analysis employs business analysis techniques such as Variance Analysis, Feasibility Analysis, Force Field Analysis, Decision Analysis, and Key Performance Indicators to support senior management in the decision-making process. The primary outcome of this work is a set of defined, prioritized projects and initiatives that the organization will undertake to create the desired future. If the initiative includes the development of software using an Agile Software Development Methodology (SDM) (http://businessanalysisexperts.com/product/business-analysis-agile-methodologies/), strategic business analysis techniques identify themes and/or epics, and initiate a product backlog. Tactical Business Analysis is at the project or initiative level to flush out the details of the proposed solution and to ensure that it meets the needs of the business community. Commonly used business analysis techniques at this level include Stakeholder Identification (http://businessanalysisexperts.com/product/how-to-identify-stakeholders-it-projects/), Interviewing (http://businessanalysisexperts.com/product/requirements-elicitation-gathering-business-stakeholder-it-requirements/), Facilitation (http://businessanalysisexperts.com/product/how-to-facilitate-requirements-gathering-workshops/), Baselining, Coverage Matrices, MoSCoW Analysis (http://businessanalysisexperts.com/product/requirements-prioritization-two-simple-techniques/), Benchmarking, Business Rules Analysis, Change Management, Process and Data Modeling (http://businessanalysisexperts.com/product/business-data-modeling-informational-requirements/), and Functional Decomposition (http://businessanalysisexperts.com/product/video-course-exposing-functional-and-non-functional-requirements/). In an Agile environment, Tactical Business Analysis adds to the Product Backlog and/or Release Plans expressed in Themes, Business Epics, Architecture Epics, User Stories (http://businessanalysisexperts.com/product/video-course-writing-user-stories/), and User Story Epics. In a traditional setting, the primary outcome of Tactical Business Analysis is a set of textual and/or modeled Business and Stakeholder Requirements (http://businessanalysisexperts.com/product/video-course-writing-requirements/). ..........
