Joseph Conrad's "The Secret Agent" (1987)

59:37
When an anarchist attempted to blow up the Greenwich Observatory, an idea exploded in the mind of Joseph Conrad. This program re-creates the world of The Secret Agent, the first great novel of political intrigue, in all its suspense and sinister irony. In addition, author and critic V. S. Pritchett and Keith Carabine, of Kent University (England), explore Conrad’s concern that the very fabric of society was being jeopardized by the growing violence and moral corruption—a concern as timely today as it was then. Az ügynök élete / Life Of An Agent _ Secret Police _ Preview CINEPOLITICA 2012

02:32
"The Life of an Agent" / "Az ügynök élete" (Gabor Zsigmond Papp, HU, 2004) / Secret Police special programme / Preview Programmes - CINEPOLITICA International Political Film Festival 2012 The Life of an Agent, Police Training in the Kádár Era (Gabor Zsigmond Papp, 2004), uses a series of films shot by the Hungarian Interior Ministry between 1958 and 1988 and screened for generations after generations of secret police agents thus taught about methods designed to protect the state socialist regime: secret searches of homes, operational monitoring of enemy persons, the installation of audio surveillance equipment, and the organization of networks of informers. The film, which works exclusively with secret police material, sheds significant light on the mechanisms of the maintenance of power despite all the paranoia and the battle waged against its own citizens. 13.06.2012, 7:00 PM, The Romanian Peasant Museum, Bucharest http://cinepolitica.ro/news/stire-4

48:06
Check out our new website for more incredible history documentaries: HD and ad-free. http://bit.ly/2O6zUsK Sexpionage tells the stories of two women who were seduced by secret agents working for the East German intelligence service, the Stasi. At the height of the Cold War the Stasi would regularly despatch their agents to the West German capital, Bonn, armed with the task of forming long term relationships with single women working at embassies or government ministries. These women were unwittingly tapped for top secret information which was then passed on to the East. Both Gabriele Kliem and Margaret Hike had no idea that their lovers were spies until both women were arrested for treason. This film tells the story of the years they spent with their secret agent lovers and explores the feelings they are left with after the most significant relationships of their lives were revealed to be a sham. Who Killed Rasputin ? The British plot. BBC 2004 FULL Documentary

46:29
The programme-makers re-opened the investigation into the death of Rasputin and found conclusive evidence to suggest that he was murdered in St Petersburg in 1916 in a plot hatched by rogue members of the British Secret Service with a fatal shot fired at close range by Secret Agent Oswald Rayner. The documentary is based on extraordinary new evidence uncovered by intelligence historian, and programme consultant, Andrew Cook. In addition, BBC Timewatch brought in Richard Cullen, former Metropolitan Police Commander, and a trainer of police cadets in forensic detective work in Russia, to re open the case. Re-examining the original autopsy reports, Richard Cullen found that the original explanation for Rasputin's death did not tally with the forensic evidence. In particular, he questions one of the key autopsy photographs which shows a gunshot wound situated in the centre of Rasputin's forehead, which bears the hallmarks of a professional assassination. The accepted version of Rasputin's death states that he was poisoned, then shot, and finally drowned in the River Nevka by five disaffected aristocrats, led by Prince Felix Yusupov. The conspirators were said to be concerned about Rasputin's influence on Tsar Nicholas II, and his wife Tsarina Alexandra. Over the years historians have questioned Yusupov's version of events but failed to come up with credible alternative theories. In Yusupov's memoirs, Cullen noted the presence of a character called Oswald Rayner - said to be a friend of Yusupov's from Oxford University, who appears suddenly in the book at the time of the murder. The Timewatch team discovered that Oswald Rayner was in fact an active British Secret Intelligence Service operative who was working alongside senior SIS officer, John Scale. Scale's daughter provided Cullen with key evidence of the murder plot and Andrew Cook, consultant to the programme, uncovered an official memo on British Intelligence Mission notepaper to Captain John Scale, which led Cullen directly to the assassin. "I am amazed by the outcome of the investigation," states Cook, "when we initially began researching the story I had no idea that the forensic evidence would substantiate the historical documentation so conclusively." Richard Cullen says of the investigation: "I was stunned that the trail of Rasputin's murder led so conclusively to the British Secret Service. "In all John Scale's official documentation Rasputin is referred to as 'Dark Forces' and it is my belief that Rasputin was a seen a real threat to the British. "Had he persuaded the Tsar to pull out of the First World War, the Allies would have been overwhelmed on the Western Front by German troops no longer needed to fight the Russians in the East."

Danger Man (1965 Secret Agent) | Say It With Flowers - Intro (Clip 1) Patrick McGoohan Ian Hendry

***** Visit: http://IanHendry.com New Ian Hendry Biography: http://ianhendry.com/new-biography ***** Danger Man (1965 Secret Agent) | Say It With Flowers First Broadcast: 23/12/1965 Plot Written by new writer John Gillies who wrote under the name Jacques Gillies, 'Say it with Flowers' was the 36th fifty-minute episode and the tenth to be made at Shepperton Studios. Drake poses as an insurance investigator when Hagen, an enemy agent dies in Switzerland. Drake's mission is to ensure that Hagen is really dead going to great lengths to find out whose body was in the coffin, but in doing so endangers the life of undertaker 'Buchler'. 'Say it with Flowers' touches upon the topical issue of plastic surgery, as Drake learns that Hagen isn't dead but has had extensive plastic surgery. At the beginning of the episode we see Wallace leaving for Switzerland for exciting new work prospects, but soon he and his only remaining relative sister Rosemary, are both murdered clearing the way for Hagen to take on Wallace's identity, but can Hagen pull it off? The episode had the working title 'The Goat' when it was filmed between Thursday 30th September and Wednesday 13th October 1965. By the time the captions had been made, the episodes title had changed to 'Say it with Flowers' the slogan on the flower delivery van which kills Miss Wallace. An alternative title was considered; 'Sometimes a goat strays among us' from Kasser's comments in act one. Featured in this episode are three actors that later went on to appear in the prisoner; Basil Dignam, Rachel Herbert and Kevin Stoney. Les White Written By: Jacques Gillies, Ralph Smart DIrected By: Peter Yates Background to Danger Man Danger Man (titled Secret Agent, Destination Danger and John Drake in non-UK markets) is a British television series that was broadcast between 1960 and 1962, and again between 1964 and 1968. The series featured Patrick McGoohan as secret agent John Drake. Ralph Smart created the programme and wrote many of the scripts. Danger Man was financed by Lew Grade's ITC Entertainment. Unlike the later James Bond films, Danger Man strove for realism, dramatising credible Cold War tensions. In the second series, Drake is an undercover agent of the British external intelligence agency (called "M9" instead of the actual MI6). As in the earlier series, Drake finds himself in danger with not always happy outcomes; sometimes duty forces him to decisions which lead to good people suffering unfair consequences. Drake doesn't always do what his masters tell him. Developing a rule established in the first series, Drake is rarely armed, though he engaged in fist fights, and the gadgets he uses are credible. In fact, most were off the shelf, and their appearance in the series spurred sales of such commercial items as the folding binoculars (Battle of the Cameras) featured in the American title sequence and the sub-miniature Minox camera. Unlike James Bond, Drake is often shown re-using gadgets from previous episodes. Among the more frequently seen are a miniature reel-to-reel tape recorder hidden inside the head of an electric shaver or a pack of cigarettes, and a microphone that could be embedded in a wall near the target via a shotgun-like apparatus, that used soda siphon cartridges containing CO2 as the propellant, allowing Drake to eavesdrop on conversations from a safe distance. Agent Drake uses his intelligence, charm and quick thinking rather than force. He usually plays a role to infiltrate a situation, for example to scout for a travel agency, naive soldier, embittered ex-convict, brainless playboy, imperious physician, opportunistic journalist, bumbling tourist, cold-blooded mercenary, bland diplomat, smarmy pop disk jockey, precise clerk, compulsive gambler, or impeccable butler.

He usually plays a role to infiltrate a situation, for example to scout for a travel agency, naive soldier, embittered ex-convict, brainless playboy, imperious physician, opportunistic journalist, bumbling tourist, cold-blooded mercenary, bland diplomat, smarmy pop disk jockey, precise clerk, compulsive gambler, or impeccable butler.

Why Russia Did Not Put a Man on the Moon - The Secret Soviet Moon Rocket

14:23
It’s probably the most well known peacetime battle between the USA and the Soviet Union, in both technological and ideological terms of the 20th century. Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/curiousdroid Paypal.me : https://www.paypal.me/curiousdroid You can now translate this and other curious droid videos, see my video about it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLPVgIytKyg Although the USA won the race to the moon, if you’d been a betting person from the mid 1950’s to 1960’s, the chances are that you would have thought the Soviet Union had a very good chance of getting there first. So why didn’t Russia put a man on the moon? At the time the soviets were leading the space race, they had already started with the launch of Sputnik, then launched several probes to the moon, including one in 1959 that orbited and taken photos of the far side and By 1961 they were the first to put a man in to space. So when Kennedy made his now famous “We choose to go to the moon” speech in 1962 to rally public support, Khrushchev’s response was silence, neither confirming nor denying that they had a plan for a manned moon mission. But at the time Khrushchev wasn’t really interested in competing with the US over the moon, he was more interested ICBM’s the Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles for the strategic rocket forces. But there were others that had harboured plans for manned mission for a long time, these included the man whose name was a state secret and the most powerful man outside the Kremlin when it came to space. He was Sergei Pavlovich Korolev, outside the inner circle of the top space scientists he was known only as the “Chief Designer” or by his first 2 initials SP, because the Soviet leadership feared that the western powers would send agents to assassinate him........ Danger Man (1965 Secret Agent) | Say It With Flowers - Finale (Clip 4) - Patrick McGoohan Ian Hendry

French Secret Service Had Its Very Own PRism Spying Programme

01:58
France's foreign intelligence service intercepts computer and telephone data on a vast scale, like the controversial US Prism programme, according to the French daily Le Monde. The data is stored on a supercomputer at the headquarters of the DGSE intelligence service, the paper says. The operation is "outside the law, and beyond any proper supervision", Le Monde says. Other French intelligence agencies allegedly access the data secretly. It is not clear however whether the DGSE surveillance goes as far as Prism. So far French officials have not commented on Le Monde's allegations. The DGSE allegedly analyses the "metadata" - not the contents of e-mails and other communications, but the data revealing who is speaking to whom, when and where. Connections inside France and between France and other countries are all monitored, Le Monde reports. The paper alleges the data is being stored on three basement floors of the DGSE building in Paris. The secret service is the French equivalent of Britain's MI6. The operation is designed, say experts, to uncover terrorist cells. But the scale of it means that "anyone can be spied on, any time", Le Monde says. There is a continuing international furore over revelations that the US has been systematically seizing vast amounts of phone and web data. The French government has sharply criticised the US spying, which allegedly included eavesdropping on official EU communications. The scale of surveillance by America's National Security Agency (NSA) emerged from classified intelligence documents leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden. The UK spy agency GCHQ is reported to run a similarly vast data collection operation, co-operating closely with the NSA.

K. Tchervenkova: "Julia Kristeva was not a secret agent" - К. Червенкова за "Досието" Юлия Кръстева

11:43
"Тhe case" of Julia Kristeva, by Koprinka Tchervenkova, Editor-in-chief of the cultural weekly Kultura : I was invited by the national radio to comment on the published files of Julia Kristeva. Here is a summary of what I said on air: • First of all, the whole case is a farce and what is more yet another failure of the Files Committee [1] , but mostly a failure of the incompetent law it serves. • Everything that has been published only proves Kristeva’s personal strategy to protect her family in Bulgaria from trouble because if she were to be classified as an expatriate, an enemy of the people, etc. the troubles were bound to begin. She tried to maintain a polite relationship with the Bulgarian government for her family’s sake, yet this relationship can be called anything but collaboration as a secret service agent. • All this is as clear as day to any unbiased reader. It turns out, however, that this is far from evident to the Committee. The public dialogue and the retelling of the French news which Kristeva feeds the secret services is regarded by the Committee as worthwhile information. • All of this happens because the small town militiaman Evtim Kostadinov and his cronies got so ahead of themselves that they decided to show off on the European stage, the Bulgarian becoming too small for them. • Finally, I expressed my hopes that the scandal around Julia Kristeva’s files will lead to something positive: that this law is eventually going to be torn to pieces and thrown in the nearest bin. And also that it will make someone think – if there is really anyone left to think in this country – of establishing an Institute of Memory where serious people and not Evtim Kostadinov’s clone army and the present members of the Committee will start working. Broadly speaking, this outlines my point of view on the radio programme. And here comes the postscript. The publishing of these files provided not only deep provincial complacency to the local “gang” and field for their individual exercises on Kristeva’s biography but also revealed something of extreme importance: it revealed the mechanisms, the principles – or, to be more precise, their total lack – in the work of the Committee. It revealed the voluntarism in its judgement and the total loss of any sensitivity to individual fates whatsoever. It revealed the way in which some random people to a great extend decide who is going to be on the right side and who on the wrong. And this made us wonder how many more reckless and dangerous decisions tarnishing the reputations of quite a number of people have been taken. This is why I repeat myself – scrap the law and the whole Committee with it. Koprinka Tchervenkova Editor-in-chief of the cultural weekly Kultura and participant in the Breakfast with Mitterrand with Bulgarian dissidents. The Architect of the CIA's Enhanced Interrogation Program, James Mitchell

25:01
Watch "'You Can't Trust Congress': The Architect (Extra Scene 1)" - http://bit.ly/1uK0wOq Watch "Dr. James Mitchell On High Value Detainees (Extra Scene 2)" - http://bit.ly/1zYynts The Senate Intelligence Committee has released a blistering, 500-page report on the CIA’s controversial detention and interrogation program, a document that committee chairwoman Dianne Feinstein said represents the most significant oversight effort in the history of the US Senate. The $40 million, five-year study concluded that CIA officials exaggerated the value of the intelligence they gleaned from dozens of “high-value detainees” held at black site prisons, where they were subjected to so-called “enhanced interrogation techniques” such as sleep deprivation and waterboarding. The committee reviewed more than 6 million pages of top-secret CIA documents and found that the architect of the interrogation program was a retired Air Force psychologist named James Mitchell, an agency contractor who — according to news reports — personally waterboarded alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. The Senate report does not identify Mitchell by name. Mitchell has a signed a non-disclosure agreement with the CIA and was unable to discuss his alleged role in the agency's enhanced interrogation program, but VICE News met up with him in suburban Florida to discuss the Senate's report and one of the darkest chapters of the war on terror. This is the first time Mitchell has ever appeared on camera. Editor's note: One week after this video was released the restrictions on Mitchell's non-disclosure agreement were loosened. In an exclusive follow-up interview with VICE News, Mitchell admitted that he was the interrogator who personally waterboarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, al Qaeda facilitator Abu Zubaydah, and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, the accused mastermind behind the USS Cole bombing - http://bit.ly/1zoSmA8 Read "Community Outreach — Not 'Enhanced Interrogation' — Might Be the Best Way to Stop Terror Attacks” - http://bit.ly/1yzJMMh Read “What $300 Million Bought the CIA's 'Detention and Interrogation’ Program” - http://bit.ly/1Byh30p Read “Senate Torture Report Finds the CIA Was Less Effective and More Brutal Than Anyone Knew“ - http://bit.ly/165G0n5 Read "UN Official Wants US Administrators Involved in Torture to Be Prosecuted” - http://bit.ly/1D9qy87 Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News Check out the VICE News beta for more: http://vicenews.com Follow VICE News here: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/vicenews Twitter: https://twitter.com/vicenews Tumblr: http://vicenews.tumblr.com/ Instagram: http://instagram.com/vicenews
