Understanding and Optimizing Oracle Latches/Mutexes - Webinar

01:04:39
Understanding and Optimizing Oracle Latches/Mutexes. Oracle memory serialization control is core to Oracle database operations. One of the most fascinating topics in Oracle internals and performance optimization is memory serialization. We will look at the circumstances in which serialization is used, how it works, how to influence its operation, and how to diagnose problems. It's a complex situation; in order to get the upper hand on serialization control, this presentation will explore the lock (a little), the latch (a lot), and the mutex (a whole lot). Topics will include: performance diagnosis, how Oracle implements latches and mutexes, and related internal algorithms. Special attention will be given to the library cache mutex operations. This is a practical, yet deep internals presentation filled with amazing discoveries about how Oracle works. For more information go to www.orapub.com

PLS-2: My First PL/SQL Program

11:34
For Full Course Experience Please Go To http://mentorsnet.org/course_preview?course_id=5 Full Course Experience Includes 1. Access to course videos and exercises 2. View & manage your progress/pace 3. In-class projects and code reviews 4. Personal guidance from your Mentors Goal is to write your first PL/SQL program. The basic program unit in PL/SQL is the block. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords partition the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. Example of a Block DECLARE bonus NUMBER(8,2); emp_id NUMBER(6) := 100; BEGIN SELECT salary * 0.10 INTO bonus FROM employees WHERE employee_id = emp_id; Exception When NO_DATA_FOUND THEN null ; END; This is a typical PL/SQL block where 10% of salary is selected and stored on a temp variables bonus. If for some reason there is no employee with empid = 100 then the control will come to exception area and the code in the exception area will be executed. These blocks can be entirely separate or nested one within another. The basic units (procedures and functions, also known as subprograms, and anonymous blocks) that make up a PL/SQL program are logical blocks, which can contain any number of nested sub blocks. Therefore, one block can represent a small part of another block, which in turn can be part of the whole unit of code. Anonymous Blocks Anonymous blocks are unnamed blocks. They are declared at the point in an application where they are to be executed and are passed to the PL/SQL engine for execution at run time. You can embed an anonymous block within a pre-compiler program and within iSQL*Plus or Server Manager. Triggers in Oracle Developer components consist of such blocks. Subprograms Subprograms are named PL/SQL blocks that can accept parameters and can be invoked. You can declare them either as procedures or as functions. Generally use a procedure to perform an action and a function to compute a value. You can store subprograms at the server or application level. Using Oracle Developer components (Forms, Reports, and Graphics), you can declare procedures and functions as part of the application (a form or report) and call them from other procedures, functions, and triggers (see next page) within the same application whenever necessary. Note: A function is similar to a procedure, except that a function must return a value.

Using fake cursors to secure on-screen password entry

00:31
Full Title: Using fake cursors to secure on-screen password entry Authors: Alexander De Luca, Emanuel von Zezschwitz, Laurent Pichler, Heinrich Hussmann Abstract: In this paper, we present a concept using fake cursors to disguise on-screen password entry. We performed two user studies with different amounts of dummy cursors and differently colored cursors. The results show that dummy cursors significantly improve security. At the same time, decrease in performance is kept within an acceptable range. Depending on the required degree of security, the studies favor 8 or 16 differently colored cursors as the best trade-off between security and usability. https://www.lead4pass.com/1Z0-060.html High quality Oracle Database 1Z0-060 dumps pdf training resources and study guides download free try from lead4pass, pass Oracle 1Z0-060 exam easily. Exams: QUESTION 1 Which three are true about the large pool for an Oracle database instance that supports shared server connections? A. Allocates memory for RMAN backup and restore operations B. Allocates memory for shared and private SQL areas C. Contains a cursor area for storing runtime information about cursors D. Contains stack space E. Contains a hash area performing hash joins of tables Correct Answer: ABC Explanation: The large pool can provide large memory allocations for the following: / (B)UGA (User Global Area) for the shared server and the Oracle XA interface (used where transactions interact with multiple databases) /Message buffers used in the parallel execution of statements / (A) Buffers for Recovery Manager (RMAN) I/O slaves Note: * large pool Optional area in the SGA that provides large memory allocations for backup and restore operations, I/O server processes, and session memory for the shared server and Oracle XA. * Oracle XA An external interface that allows global transactions to be coordinated by a transaction manager other than Oracle Database. * UGA User global area. Session memory that stores session variables, such as logon information, and can also contain the OLAP pool. * Configuring the Large Pool Unlike the shared pool, the large pool does not have an LRU list (not D). Oracle Database does not attempt to age objects out of the large pool. Consider configuring a large pool if the database instance uses any of the following Oracle Database features: * Shared server In a shared server architecture, the session memory for each client process is included in the shared pool. * Parallel query Parallel query uses shared pool memory to cache parallel execution message buffers. * Recovery Manager Recovery Manager (RMAN) uses the shared pool to cache I/O buffers during backup and restore operations. For I/O server processes, backup, and restore operations, Oracle Database allocates buffers that are a few hundred kilobytes in size. QUESTION 2 What are three purposes of the RMAN "FROM" clause? A. to support PUSH-based active database duplication B. to support synchronization of a standby database with the primary database in a Data environment C. To support PULL-based active database duplication D. To support file restores over the network in a Data Guard environment E. To support file recovery over the network in a Data Guard environment Correct Answer: BDE Explanation: DE: * With a control file autobackup, RMAN can recover the database even if the current control file, recovery catalog, and server parameter file are inaccessible. * RMAN uses a recovery catalog to track filenames for all database files in a Data Guard environment. A recovery catalog is a database schema used by RMAN to store metadata about one or more Oracle databases. The catalog also records where the online redo logs, standby redo logs, tempfiles, archived redo logs, backup sets, and image copies are created.
