Thomas Hunger is an average German fellow but with a touch of quirkiness—his obsession with the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). He beams with childish enthusiasm and his eyes light up with wonder every time he talks about this natural phenomenon. But Thomas is not a visitor seeing it for the first time nor is he just a regular tour guide—Thomas “chases” Aurora like a stormchaser would chase tornados. He is in the business of selling the experience of seeing the Northern Lights even though he can never guarantee his guests that he and his team will succeed "catching" one. Still, his trips are filled with excitement and frenzy as he constantly consults weather apps to find it, communicates with his team on possible sightings, and crosses open borders into Sweden and Finland with his head fixed skywards, waiting for Aurora to poke out from behind the clouds at night. When the van they travel in stops his enthusiastic guests get off and plant a thicket of tripods in the snow—cameras pointed up and ISOs boosted high to vividly capture the magical and undulating green waves in the sky. Thomas runs one of the most successful companies in Tromsø, Norway incidentally called, Chasing Lights. Guests from as far as Malaysia, China and India make the journey just to be mesmerized by this wash of green that fills the skies of Arctic nights. It’s an experience to cross off the bucket list, his guests often say.

If you wish to master aurora photography and learn from award winning photographers then check offer by Iceland Photo Tours at https://iceland-photo-tours.com/ On 25th February 2014 Sun produced X4.9 flare which on 27th February caused G2 (KP 6) geomagnetic storm on Earth. It was the brightest aurora display so far during this solar maximum which I could witness with auroral displays overhead in the far north of Scotland. This short movie illustrates what has been seen from latitude 58.3 degrees north. This Voyage (25/09/2016 - 05/10/2016) on Ms Nordnorge from Hurtigruten was filled with extremely active Northern Lights displays. The Aurora amazed us more than 5 nights on an 11 day Voyage! On top of Lady Aurora, we had fantastic sunrises/sunsets and all kinds of weather. I will never get enough of the Arctic and the mysterious elusive Auroras! To experience the unbelievable colours that moves across the Arctic sky is on many bucket lists, and few places offer more ways to witness the aurora borealis than Norway. But what's the story behind the Northern Lights? During large solar explosions and flares, huge quantities of particles are thrown out of the sun and into deep space. When the particles meet the Earth’s magnetic shield, they are led towards a circle around the magnetic North Pole, where they interact with the upper layers of the atmosphere. The energy which is then released is the northern lights. All this happens approximately 100 kilometres above our heads. Filmed in real time video (no time-lapse) in Full HD1080 during the night of the 8th of October of 2015 in Kvaloya, Tromsø, in the Arctic Norway. An amazing display of northern lights (aurora borealis) happened that night. Filmed with the Sony A7s camera, a real low light monster, with a Canon 50mm f1.4 and Metabones adapter. ISO between 200 and 25600. No noise reduction, no color correction or sharpening filter at all, everything is edited as it is, straight out from the camera. The Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis are a strange natural phenomenon that can only be witnessed in the most northern regions of the globe. We had the once in a lifetime opportunity to go to Yellowknife Canada and watch the best aurora of the entire year so far. It was truly a magical moments that no words will ever be able to describe. This is a moment I will cherish for the rest of my life. The most common color displayed is a brilliant yellow-green, but the aurora borealis can also produce red, blue and purple patterns. An aurora, sometimes referred to as a polar lights or northern lights, is a natural light display in the sky, predominantly seen in the high latitude (Arctic and Antarctic) regions. Auroras are produced when the magnetosphere is sufficiently disturbed by the solar wind that the trajectories of charged particles in both solar wind and magnetospheric plasma, mainly in the form of electrons and protons, precipitate them into the upper atmosphere (thermosphere/exosphere), where their energy is lost. The resulting ionization and excitation of atmospheric constituents emits light of varying color and complexity. All right guys, this is my first ever time lapse project. I spent a few days in Tromsø, Norway earlier in February chasing the aurora borealis (a.k.a. Northern Lights) and was amazed in particularly with one location in a small village called Ersfjordbotn, known by many as "The Fjord of Light". Over 1100 images were used in this project. The image sequences were shot in 3 different nights and I also included 2 sequences from the city of Tromsø viewed from Mount Storsteinen on Fløya, 421 meters above the sea. I tried to reproduce the Northern Lights here with their real speed, as close as possible of how I've seen it. A special thanks goes to Per Wollen, a talented musician from Tromsø who made the soundtrack specially for this project. It is definitely worth turning up the volume to enjoy this magnificent soundtrack. Many thanks Per! A special thanks goes to Carolina who always supports me and my cousin Eduardo for the company in the field. Hope you guys enjoy! What a place to get away. Jeff Allen is a longtime sea kayaker who guides expeditions to his favorite place on Earth: northern Norway. The expedition starts in sea kayaks, paddling while surrounded by orcas and whales distracted by the herring rich waters; then moves to land, on sleds pulled by energetic dogs. It's a pleasure for Allen, since he knows that what the expeditioners will see will truly blow their minds. In winter, the light along the norwegian coast is at its most beautiful. The sun lies low on the horizon and for weeks, and north of the Arctic circle, it disappears completely. This creates a fascinating luminescence, with the Northern Lights – Aurora Borealis – at their most magical. Don't forget that this is 360° video: you can change the angle of view. Lying north of the Arctic circle within the severe waters of the Norwegian sea, the Lofoten archipelago is known for its wild nature, majestic mountains, deep fjords, noisy bird settlements, the purest water and long sandy beaches. From the middle of September to the middle of April the colourful Polar lights can be witnessed... If you enjoyed this video please like, share, comment, favorite, subscribe: https://goo.gl/NZMdaz We regularly publish new 360° videos of the most beautiful places on our planet! 360° photos and videos, stories of our shootings, articles and FAQ you can find on our website: http://AirPano.com Nowadays you need extraordinary computer power for watching 8K 360° videos. If you have troubles with watching such videos, choose 4K or HD quality in the settings of your YouTube player. We hope that YouTube will find a solution for optimization this videoformat to make it watchable for common users. Also here is the answer for a frequently asked question about true resolution of an 8K 360° video. Unlike standard videos, in a 360° video you can see only a part of original image (approximately 30 degrees out of 360). As result, the real resolution of the part you can see isn't bigger than 1.3K. YouTube does not support 12K 360 video yet, so the video was down-sampled from 12K to 8K. But still you need an extraordinary computer power for watching 8K 360° videos.

One of Alister Chapmans regular trips is to Arctic Norway in the winter to film the Northern Lights. This year when he went 200miles north of the Arctic circle the temperature got down to -36c (-33f). So cold in fact that one of his camera rain covers shattered like glass. Despite the cold he was able to get amazing footage of the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis by using the slow shutter and timelapse features of his XDCAM EX cameras. Being solid state cameras they were not as affected by the cold as a tape camera would be. In fact the only issue he encountered was the LCD display becoming a little sluggish, but then what do you expect when it's colder than the average deep freeze!

Hey Everyone! Our next Greenland episode is ALMOST done! I think we'll be able to finish uploading it by tomorrow. Other great news is that we're going to try to publish *** 3 EPISODES THIS WEEK! *** so please stand by. :) In the meantime, here's a little more from our more recent footage. We saw the Aurora Borealis many times while sailing down the entire coast of Norway last Summer.. Just amazing to see. The Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis, or simply spectacular...whatever you call them, this light show is sure to inspire wonder and awe. Especially with the background of the mountains in Svolvær in the beautiful Lofoten islands.

In November 2016, I had the pleasure to film Kari Schibevaag (www.kariland.com), former world champion, kiting under the Northern Lights in Tromsø region, Northern Norway. While filming a documentary about orcas onboard Barba.no, with Andreas B. Heide (captain), Kari Schibevaag (kiter) and Jaap Van Rijckevorsel (assistant). I show the opportunity and we all went for it: we planned it on the boat, and we four jumped on the dingy and sailed out to a small beach on a remote island outside Kvaløya, Tromsø. www.buendiaphotography.com www.instagram.com/buendiaphotography www.kariland.com www.barba.no

This is a short 3D film shot as part of the Elemental Project. I used 2x XDCAM EX cameras in a side by side rig. At one point the temperature got down to -36c and I had problems with ice forming on the EX1 viewfinder which is why the focus is a tiny bit off in a couple of shots. I hope to get back to Norway again in 2010 to run a Masterclass in shooting with XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX and in the hope of seeing the Northern lightd once more.

Norway - Lofoten Islands - Arctic Circle - March 2018 Lofoten Winter / Film / Video / Movie The Lofoten Islands are draped across the turbulent waters of the Norwegian Sea, far above the Arctic Circle. This rare wilderness outpost offers an untrammelled landscape of majestic mountains, deep fjords, squawking seabird colonies and long, surf-swept beaches (Kvalvika Beach). Reine is a fishing village and the administrative centre of the municipality of Moskenes in Nordland county, Norway. Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). It was such a blessing to be able to experience the Aurora Borealis in Svolvær this winter. We were very lucky with the weather and were able to see the Northern Lights every night while we were there. Due to time constraints, and the absolute freezing state of my fingers, I was only able to capture 3 short time lapse sequences of the Aurora. In this video I have edited them together. At the end there is also a daytime time-lapse from Henningsvær, a bit further out on the Lofoten Archipelago.
