The costs you need to be tracking are both your direct costs and your hidden costs. By tracking what your direct costs are in terms of receiving your product and selling your product or even providing your service, you're able to see how much it costs you to do specific types of jobs or sell specific types of products. I recommend you split up both your income account and also your direct costs and hidden costs related to each product and service you provide. Once you do this type of tracking you're actually able to see what proportion of your income is sucked up by product or service costs, then administration costs. You are also then able to see what you are left with to either: A. pay yourself; and/or B. run the rest of your business. By splitting these costs you are now able to see real profitability without mixing up profitability from business operations and administration. Cost Modeling: The cost of doing business can be broken down into fixed and variable costs. Fixed or overhead costs remain constant from period to period, regardless of the amount and type of entities processed or services provided. Examples of fixed cost include rent, utilities and salaries. Variable costs are costs that are only incurred when processing entities or providing services, the more entities produced or services provided, the greater the variable costs. It can be very useful to know what the average variable cost is for a given type of product or service. It can also be nice to know the average unit cost, which is the average variable cost per unit plus the average fixed cost per unit where the average fixed cost is calculated using activity-based costing allocation method. Process Simulator allows the modeler to determine either average variable cost or average unit cost. Cost can be accrued that are either time based (e.g., time spent using a resource or undergoing an activity) or event based (e.g., they are incurred whenever an entity arrives or when a resource is used). Thus Process Simulator considers both time-based and event-based cost drivers. When building a model, cost can be assigned to arriving entities, to activity times, or to the duration or times that a particular resource is used. Additional costs can be added (or deducted) in any Logic Builder using the IncCost command. This gives you complete control over when and how much cost should be added during a simulation. Situation: Increase the unit cost of an entity by some constant value each time a particular resource is used. Example: A dental X-ray machine is used at a dentist office that has a fixed charge of $50 per use. We want to add this cost to the patient cost. Solution: The cost per use for the X-ray machine is set to $50. Alternatively, we could have defined the X-ray as an activity and entered IncCost (Entity, 50) to increment the entity cost by $50. (text of video below) http://www.sellercloud.com http://wiki.sellercloud.com In this tutorial we'll look at tracking Profit and Loss of an order. The profit and loss tab details all costs and payments associated with the order, including the item cost, as well as channel commissions and the actual shipping costs. Let's look at each item on the profit and loss tab. • The item cost includes the cost of purchasing the item from the vendor as well as any shipping or third party costs incurred to get the item to you. Vendor discounts are factored into the cost of the item. The item cost can be calculated as a fixed cost or with a weighted average. These two options are explained in another video tutorial. SellerCloud saves the item cost with the order details so it will show the cost of the item as it was at the time of the order. Clicking on the item cost will open an editing window where you can adjust the cost of the item by editing the cost. • The posting fee is the amount a channel charges for listing the item. • The commission line displays the dollar amount the channel took from the proceeds of the sale. This can also be referred to as the Final Value Fee. • Transaction fees are the costs associated with processing payment, like a PayPal fee. On the Payment settings page under Company Settings you can enable this setting to include credit card fees into the transaction cost. Set the fee percentage value here. • Shipping Costs refer to the amount you paid to ship the item to the customer, regardless of whether the customer paid for shipping. If you did not calculate the exact shipping cost at the time of order creation, or if you are not sure that the shipping weight and dimensions were entered correctly, you can import the exact shipping amounts based on the shipping invoice sent to you by the shipping carrier. In the Orders menu, select "Import Shipping Costs". Download the template and populate the columns with either the order ID or the tracking number, and enter the shipping cost. Save the file. Now, click the import link for the carrier you are reconciling. Select the file and click "Import Shipping Cost". Currently, SellerCloud handles formats for UPS, UPS Mail Innovations, and DHL Global. • Sales tax is shown here. • Rebates refer to vendor rebates that are credited to the seller when the item is sold. This value reduces the cost of the order. Rebates can be configured on the product level by clicking on Rebates on a product detail page. • The Order Cost is the sum total of all costs associated with the order. • The Payment line shows the total amount the customer paid, including shipping. • The bottom line displays the order's profit totaled as a dollar amount. When an item is sold in an international marketplace, the Profit and Loss will display all costs and payments in the currency that was used for the purchase and in the currency configured in the default company, which in this case is US dollars. SellerCloud checks the currency conversion rate once a day and saves the rate at the time of the order with the order details page. Clicking on this icon will open a window that shows the profit and loss in greater detail. For example, this order consists of four skus, so the grid will show each sku on a separate row. The cost and revenue of the entire order are totaled on the bottom row. The first six columns are 3 pairs of two columns, with 2 columns relating to an item property. Columns that reference a "Unit" refer to a value of one unit of the sku. Columns referencing a "Site" refer to the value of all units of that sku in the order. The first two columns refer to the cost of the item in the order. These values are the cost of the item at the time of purchase. The third and fourth column are the current cost of the item. The next two columns refer to the selling price of the item. At the very end of the grid is the profit of the order both in dollar and percentage formats. When an order has been partially refunded an additional column will appear showing the refunded amount. When an item is returned, the item cost will be removed from the profit and loss tab. Because a replacement order sends a new item to the customer, SellerCloud will calculate its profit and loss separately from the original order. If no payment is made on the replacement order, the profit and loss tab will only show the order costs. Under the Reports tab, you can find many other reports relating to profit and loss, including the Product Profit report where you can see the profits, for every order, generated by sales of this product.

The following video explains how a company can us a marketing budget in order to track lead generation and the number of qualified leads that come from individual marketing strategies. First, the company must track marketing expenditures by month by itemizing which marketing strategies it is employing and how much the company is spending on each strategy. Second, the company must then total all these marketing expenditures in order to come up with a total monthly cost of marketing. There are times that you may need to track expenses you occur in order to get reimbursed later. In order to do this in Wave Accounting, you need to be able to set up an income account, a product, and make sure to hit both the expenditure (Expense, Receipt, or Bill) to the same category that the invoice to the customer goes to. Normally, a reimbursement is not tracked as an income account, but since we can't assign expenses to an invoice, this is how it has to be done with this program. It's a free program, so sometimes workarounds have to be incorporated. In the end, since everything is hitting the same category, you should be able to see both a debit and a credit balance in the account report that shows they completely wash each other out. No balance should be left if it is set up correctly.

In this video, we do an Aliexpress unboxing from items that we requested to have blindly dropshipped, so you can see exactly what the customers receives when you blind dropship an item. Here at Wholesale Ted, we get asked a lot of questions in-regards to this… “Won’t the Aliexpress seller include an invoice in the package, telling the buyer the real price I paid? Won’t they get angry?” “I don’t want to dropship from Aliexpress because sellers include marketing information (like their seller name and coupon codes) that identifies them, so the buyer can go direct to the Aliexpress seller.” Luckily, there is a simple solution to this - and that is to blindly dropship your items from the Aliexpress suppliers. QUESTION: What is Blind Dropshipping? ANSWER: Blind dropshipping is when a supplier dropships an item without including any marketing or advertising identifying them as the seller. It also means they don’t include an invoice so the customer can’t see how much you paid. As a result, the buyer as no idea where you go the item from (so they can’t go direct to them) and they don’t know the real price of it. QUESTION: That’s great… how do I blindly dropship then? ANSWER: It’s actually very simple. All you need to do is ask the Aliexpress supplier to do it. When you purchase an item, on the checkout page you’ll be offered an option to leave a message for the seller. Simply type in a message like this: "Hi there. Please do not include an invoice or any marketing materials with this order. Please blindly dropship this item. Thank you" If you add a message like this, then your item will be shipped out and not include any invoices/marketing materials/coupon codes inside. QUESTION: Why would suppliers be willing to blindly dropship? ANSWER: A lot of Aliexpress sellers are used to working with dropshippers, and actively seek them out. Why? Because dropshippers can do large amounts of volume, and be very profitable for them. As a result of working with us, Aliexpress suppliers are used to the needs of dropshippers and know how to ship while hiding their identity. QUESTION: Why in this video do you recommend working with Aliexpress suppliers that have a feedback score between 2,000-2 million? ANSWER: Sellers in this feedback range are the “sweet spot.” They are established suppliers, so likely have previous experience working with dropshippers and will understand your requests. Yet they aren’t doing an absolutely insane amount of sales volume, so they will be more likely to pay close attention to messages. QUESTION: Is there anything else I do to ensure the supplier will blind dropship my item? ANSWER: Yes - there is. If you’d like to be doubly safe, then we recommend reaching out to the supplier and messaging them. You can ask them if they offer blind dropshipping, and check that they understand what it is. QUESTION: So you say that you ordered items from Aliexpress suppliers and unboxed them in the video… was any marketing material or invoices included in the packages? ANSWER: Nope! We ordered four different items from four different suppliers. All of the suppliers were in the feedback score range we recommended in this video (2,000 to 2 million). There was nothing included on or in the packages indicating who the seller was. There were no invoices included in the packages, indicating the true cost of the item. And there were no coupons included in the package, and they made no attempts to try and “poach” customers. And finally, here is something to keep in mind… this highlights something very important: oftentimes, seemingly complicated problems have very simple, easy solutions. We’ve noticed that a ot of people get held back from starting a dropshipping business because of this issue. They tell us things like: “I want to do this, but I’m worried the customer will get an invoice in their package.” “I’d like to start a dropshipping business, but it won’t work, because the Aliexpress seller will include advertising information in the package, identifying them.” Well… a little bit of research reveals that actually - this isn’t true at all if you just ask them to not do so! They will leave all of that out. So remember - if you hit a stumbling block along the way, don’t let it stop you. The solution to it is likely simpler that you realized.
