How high-fashion designers come up with ideas

So THAT'S how these weird jeans trends are made. I feel like this not only explains how the waist belt came into existence, but also the janties, the "extreme cut out" jeans, the inverted jeans (just mask the shorts in photoshop, and flip them upside-down!), and the double-waist jeans (the clone stamp tool is a designer's best friend!) What Does it Take to Be A Fashion Designer?

06:17
Click for more: http://ww2.kqed.org/artschool/ Oakland high school student Zachary Fernandez made it to the finals on the first season of Project Runway Junior, then headed straight back to Oakland School of the Arts to continue his education as a designer. His newest collection, Kathmandu, was inspired by recovery efforts in Nepal after the devastating 2015 earthquake. Art School followed Fernandez's process as he sketched, sourced fabric, and designed his new project, revealed at a culminating fashion show in spring 2016. Hi, my name is Zachary Fernandez and I'm currently a fashion student. So I am starting my Kathmandu 2016 collection. My collection's gonna be debuting at my school fashion show, and so I have little under seven weeks to get this all put together. So our school assignment was to pick a city that we wanted to be inspired by for this collection. I ended with Kathmandu, Nepal, all of the trouble that they went through last year was really inspiring and I was able to take those ideas of imbalance and the destruction of culture and apply that to this new collection. These are the pieces that I ended up designing. They're ever-changing and they kind of just are always in flux. My sketching process involves a lot of images, a lot of mixed medias, I like to do collages, watercolors, acrylic paste, it's a real reflection of what my mind looks like. Here you have the final sketches that I've done. The sketching process for me is really a major step between just ideas and kind of this fantasy world that I've created in my mind to really functional wearable pieces. Fabric sourcing is one of my favorite things to do. It's really like a group activity, like meet a couple of friends, we'll just go, we'll explore the city, we'll get inspiration. So I'm looking for like a very pale blue that's almost like very silverish, and then I'm gonna be looking for a very deep, rust orange color. Okay, so I need to find this, but more grayish blue. The fabric store is one of those places that you go in with one idea and one concept and one thought, and you come out with like 500 more. This is it. - This is it! - This is it. - [Girl] Dude! - Hey! Yes! So I spend the majority of my time draping and it's definitely a part that will make or break a piece. I take a piece of muslin, which is just a really basic blend fabric, and I started sculpting it to the dress form. And then those mock-ups that I make of the dress form are then fitted to the model, and sometimes I try them on a model, I'm like, this is hideous, I don't know why, it just overpowers her or something happens and that leads to even better ideas and even more just, creativeness. When you design while you create, I just think it takes so much longer and you like pressure yourself so much more. So, my design mind is turned off. And it's just about sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing. So after I finish draping, I take a part of that mockup and I totally seam rip it and I re-pattern it, and then I cut out of my real fabric. It's always really nerve-wracking 'cause a lot of times the fabric's all that you have, either the budget doesn't allow for you to get more fabric, or there's simply not anymore left. It has this like box-like structure in it. The box is actually lined with horse-hair so that it can kind of take the shape and that's why I'm kind of trying to like manipulate it right now 'cause it just takes on whatever shape you really need it to. The show, oh the show. Six days, and I'm still cutting up fabric like, I don't think that's normal. There's always going to be that last minute hurry up and finish like state of being. I have a picture in my mind about how this is supposed to go, but who knows if it actually go that way. I think that there can be a lot of different ways to read the look. Obviously you look for like the main things like color, silhouette, is this an evening piece, is this a day piece and you just kind of put the garment and choose certain categories and that really helps people read fashion out, by the time the piece is on the runway I'm already thinking about a whole new collection and I'm really thinking something totally different, but it doesn't really hit me that these people, for them it's the first time that they've seen this. I've spent months and months planning and sketching and putting it together. If I see all these different things in these pieces, but no one else does, then it's kind of sad, but then it's also part of what makes fashion art, is because people see it in so many different ways. We are in my home, studio, bedroom combination in Berkeley, California. I have this look from Project Runway Junior, which was the first episode, and this look for my most recent collection. They really mean a lot to me 'cause they show how much progress I've made within the last four, five months.

Meet Brooklyn's Hasidic Designers | Style Out There | Refinery29

06:59
Subscribe to the Refinery29 channel: http://bit.ly/subscribe-to-r29 No matter your cultural or religious background, you have some conception of what's okay and not okay to wear in public. For most of us, the rules are pretty relaxed: Cleavage is usually fine, but you should probably keep your nipples covered. Pelvage might be fun to spot on the red carpet, but it's not so practical for everyday life. For orthodox Jews, modesty is much more specific. Each creed or sect has its own strict clothing guidelines that pertain to fabric, colors, length, and cut. For most, that means elbows are covered; necklines stay high; long, conservative skirts are a must; and married women cover their hair. For modern New Yorkers, those rules might seem more suffocating than empowering. However, preserving modesty doesn't have to be ideologically opposed to promoting creativity. As we've come to learn from two Hasidic women, Brooklyn designers Mimi Hecht and Mushky Notik of Mimu Maxi, living both a religious life and a fashionable one are pursuits that can go hand in hand. Their fashion-forward personal style has led them to become more in touch with their spirituality, their community, and a larger world of women from all religious backgrounds looking for modest fashion that's also exciting. In our third episode of Style Out There, Asha Leo hops across the river to Crown Heights to meet with a new generation of observant Jews who are changing the definition of religious fashion. They too wish to make their style statement and it is heart warming to see real women doing catwalk in some real size fashion shows around the world in plus size swimwear or plus size dresses every year. Fashion place store Today plus size women don't have to sneak to a plus size fashion counter at the end of a mall or shopping center. More than the color of the fabric or clothing, it is the designs that accentuate plus size figures. A good style in long sleeves or short sleeves top will slim down the top section; a flattering plus size swimwear like one-piece swimming dress with flowing skirt to camouflage big tummy and deep V neck which accentuates the ample bosom. There are different plus size body shapes but the majority of them are pear shapes with bigger waistline and hips, as compared to smaller upper bodies. This is most commonly found amongst large women; an A-line swimming dress (in plus size swimwear range) with empire waist to enhance the top and conceal the width of the hips would be ideal for this body shape. The second most common shape (for plus size women) is apple shape. Apple-shaped women are fuller around the top and the middle including their belly. They're usually larger-busted and their upper arms and shoulders are broader, their legs tend to be slim and their bottoms tend to be flat, in that case they should emphasize their bust and legs while camouflaging their midsection, keeping it all in balance. The main idea is to draw the eye toward the best parts of their bodies; they should wear garments (tops, dresses, plus size swimwear in one-piece or two-piece) which accentuate their bust and which show off their great legs. Since the plus size fashion (including plus size swimwear) becomes popular beside the revolution of online selling, full-figured women do not even need to go to brick-and-mortal shops to buy their clothes; instead, they can shop and try on the garments at their own homes with the goods delivered to their doors. female fashion designers. fashion institute. runway show. fashion runway show fashion designing apps . https://youtu.be/13fHusgEbPg https://twitter.com/sabhalli25 https://www.facebook.com/shanisab731/messages/ https://www.facebook.com/shanisab731/

Since the plus size fashion (including plus size swimwear) becomes popular beside the revolution of online selling, full-figured women do not even need to go to brick-and-mortal shops to buy their clothes; instead, they can shop and try on the garments at their own homes with the goods delivered to their doors. female fashion designers. fashion institute. runway show. fashion runway show fashion designing apps. https://twitter.com/sabhalli25 https://youtu.be/L7OxgZp8YhI https://www.facebook.com/shanisab731/messages/ https://www.facebook.com/shanisab731/

Designers turn Dubai into powerhouse of Indian fashion

05:48
(29 Jan 2018) LEADIN: Indian fashion designers are carving out a niche for themselves in Dubai. Two women have created brands which attract the biggest stars from their homeland as well as an international clientele. STORYLINE: Vivid colours, sparkling sequins and delicate beading - the hallmarks of Indian couture fashion. But these gowns are not hanging in a boutique in Delhi - they are made and sold in Dubai. The high-end fashion is the work of Anjali Khushlani, the founder and designer behind the brand Anjali K. When she started her business six years ago she says there were few Indian couture designers in the UAE. She says her customers wanted something that was "a notch higher" than the mass-produced Indian clothing available in Dubai. "They want to find something different, and not to travel to India, to find bridal wear," she says. Khushlani is not the only designer with Indian heritage making a name for herself here. Meher Mirchandani opened her fashion house 15 years ago. She says Dubai lacks the traditional artisan skills of embroidery and hand weaving commonly found in Indian clothing, so her business has taken a different direction. "That talent did not exist in Dubai. So we were always more Western than Indian but we had ethnic influences," she says. In the Anjali K workshop, the men are focused on delicately hand stitching large swathes of cloth. Details like this are no doubt what appeal to Khushlani's clients - she says most of them are Indian. Mirchandani caters for a similar market - half her orders either come from India or from ex-pats now living in the UAE, but that still leaves a sizeable chunk of customers from the rest of the world. Full of painstaking and intricate work, Anjali K pieces do not come cheap. They start at around 1,600 US dollars and the price goes up according to the complexity of the design. But that's no barrier for India's biggest celebrities. Khushlani has dressed Bollywood star Sunny Leone, a massive coup for her label. "I think people in India and all over the world if they would see a celebrity wearing something they want the same piece," she says. "So I think that's such a big advantage for us that in fact when we dressed Sunny Leone, I remember the next day I had 100 emails." Mirchandani's range sells Western style clothing for between 150 and 250 US dollars. She too has a host of famous fans including American burlesque performer Dita Von Teese and the singer Jordin Sparks. The designer believes the high calibre of Dubai's fashion industry is what attracts well-known names. "Stylists for these celebrities have sourced from the Indian designers (in Dubai) because of the work, because of the quality of the work," she says. "The same has happened with us. When the stylist was looking for Shilpa Shetty, she really liked our piece because it was so simple, the finishing was good, and it was on trend." These female fashion entrepreneurs are turning Dubai into a powerhouse of couture Indian design. Will Artificial Intelligence Replace Fashion Designers? [Amazon, Stitch Fix, Myntra]

07:12
Every time I visit any Fashion events, this has been one of the topics that often come up. Can Artificial Intelligence AI replace fashion designers? Fashion designer thinks it can not but tech folks say it can be done. So I started researching into what has been done and found 3 great examples for you. I want to give you a glimpse of what Amazon, Stitch Fix, and Myntra have been doing and using AI to design clothes. *************** Amazon: AI fashion designer *************** The effort points to ways in which Amazon and other companies could try to improve the tracking of trends in other areas of retail—making recommendations based on products popping up in social-media posts, for instance. And it could help the company expand its clothing business * “There’s been a whole move from companies like Amazon trying to understand how fashion develops in the world,” says Kavita Bala, a professor at Cornell University who took part in a workshop on machine learning and fashion organized by Amazon last week. A number of forward-thinking retailers are already using social networks like Instagram and Pinterest to track the latest fashion trends and react quickly. An Amazon team at Lab126, a research center based in San Francisco, has developed an algorithm that learns about a particular style of fashion from images, and can then generate new items in similar styles from scratch—essentially, a simple AI fashion designer. This work uses a cutting-edge tool called a generative adversarial network, or GAN. It consists of two deep neural networks operating in tandem to learn efficiently from raw data. The GAN internalizes the properties of a particular style simply by looking at lots of examples, and it can then apply that style to an existing item of clothing. *************** Stitch Fix *************** The in-house brand of subscription fashion startup Stitch Fix, Hybrid Designs employs a data science team that works with the company’s order data to predict which clothes customers will want to wear. The team identifies viable gaps in the company’s inventory—clothes that people would buy but a designer hasn’t made yet, says Stitch Fix chief algorithm officer Eric Colson. It works like this: A collection of three algorithms generate a starting point. The first algorithm picks three “parents,” recommended pieces of clothing that could be either combined or used as a template for a new piece. The second suggests three different attributes that have been shown to complement the parents’ style—maybe a different neckline or sleeves. And the third throws in a little bit of randomness, a suggestion that isn’t typical for the previously suggested style but might be interesting. Together, these algorithms search through a space of 30 trillion potential combinations of, for example, blouse attributes, to ultimately give just nine suggestions. *************** Myntra - Moda Rapido *************** Algorithms that would get their machines to produce images of T-shirts based on the discovered favorable attributes. It turned out that one category of the machine-created designs outsold the comparable category in each of the other 12 private brands owned by Myntra. Some of the other machine-created designs sold poorly, but the company knew they were onto something really big. “The core of the Rapid idea was to do fast fashion in an intelligent way, given that we have both a tech and a fashion DNA,” said Kenghe. “In the initial phase of the project, there was less machine and more designer-input. Over a period of time, there’s been more machine and less supervision.” Here&Now & Moda Rapido: By September, Moda Rapido and Here&Now were together bringing in sales of Rs12-13 crore every month, making them among the top 15 brands at Myntra. The two contribute 12.5% of Myntra’s private brand's sales, said, Narayanan. Moda Rapido and Here&Now are Myntra’s most profitable brands, **************** Other Videos You Might Like: **************** 13 Areas Artificial Intelligence will affect Fashion Industry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9Lp51oiCTo What is Artificial Intelligence? Thank You Fashion field and their dependence with whatever clothing they could find, or having to make their own clothes such as plus size swimwear. Nowadays, large women want to look good and feel good in ready-made clothes; as a part of fashion industry, plus size clothing becomes popular for many women in all age groups. They too wish to make their style statement and it is heart warming to see real women doing catwalk in some real size fashion shows around the world in plus size swimwear or plus size dresses every year. Fashion place store Curve Plus Size Fashion ! Female fashion designers , plus size supermodel ! fashion show Today plus size women don't have to sneak to a plus size fashion counter at the end of a mall or shopping center. Since the plus size fashion (including plus size swimwear) becomes popular beside the revolution of online selling, full-figured women do not even need to go to brick-and-mortal shops to buy their clothes; instead, they can shop and try on the garments at their own homes with the goods delivered to their doors. female fashion designers. fashion institute. runway show. fashion runway show fashion designing apps. https://youtu.be/espz7vMBQgU https://twitter.com/sabhalli25 https://www.facebook.com/shanisab731/messages/ https://www.facebook.com/shanisab731/
