Orient Bambino - 5 Things I couldn't tell from the photos (model ER2400CN)

612 ratings | 113103 views
Its hard to find the Bambino at your local store, so most of us have to use online photos to make a judgement. Here are the 5 things that surprised me when I finally saw the Bambino in person. This is the cream dial, blue hands model (ER2400CN). I believe this is version 1 of the watch. How much time gain or loose this movement ? Is it accurate ?
Matt Ashe (1 month ago)
The markers aren’t raised, they’re applied. Raised means that they were already in the dial and then... raised. Deployant, not deployment. You filmed the watch quite nicely though.

It's not heavy because it's "high quality" - it's heavy because it has a mechanical movement in it, and a rather large one at that.

Great video thanks for sharing
J Herrera (2 months ago)
That watch is absolutely beautiful
SimonTheWatchGuy (3 months ago)
Great video but I think the vintage look is a nod to vintage watches. I don't think it looks fake or bad in any way. A truly beautiful automatic. I own the v2 with hand winding and hacking.
Truthfears Guilty (3 months ago)
"USED"? you made a channel on a Cheap USED watch? why?

Lol thanks!

I bought this watch recently, but it runs fast, it will gain about 6 minutes during the day, sucks I thought these had really good movements. I find myself having to reset it often.
Antonio Andaya (1 month ago)
Most probably magnetized
6 minutes? Magnetized?
Ana Costa (4 months ago)
... They did not even know how to write "4" in roman numbers... it is "IV" not "IIII"
powbobs (3 months ago)
It’s called a watchmakers 4. All watches have It.
No. Check for example Rolex date just. It’s pretty standard notation.

if this had sapphire crystal it would be a insta buy. i'd pay 50 extra for it
Roger 955 (7 months ago)
Maybe it's production variations, but the one I received wasn't so much 'yellow', as beige, almost brown.'Almost' fake-looking?  No "almost" about it. The beige looks like someone took a dump on it and then tried to wipe it clean
neil piper (7 months ago)
I don't wear my V4 Bambino. At 42mm it is too big on my small wrist. No one sells Orient in shops here in the UK. I would try a watch in person if possible. The Bambino keeps great time. You need a high beat movement for a really smooth sweep. Orient is 21,600 beats per hour. 28,000 is available. Lower beats often means longer life and longer between services. My ideal sized watch is my Vostok Amphibia in the 710 ministry case and the bph is 18,600 if I remember correctly.
Fly Swatter (7 months ago)
The information you came for starts at 2:00.
Fnasser (8 months ago)
Junk. Clasp pin came off in 1 month and wouldn't hold. Sold this POS and got a steinhart ocean 1 for $150 more. Saphire crystal, ceramic
Philip Rode (9 months ago)
Nice video. Thx for sharing the extra details.
Being a 21mm, you were spared finding the correct strap and clasp. I believe this watch was purchased and modified through Long Island Watch. Good find!
Erwin Lee (10 months ago)
Is cream the same thing as beige?
Sanjay C (10 months ago)
Almost.
neil piper (10 months ago)
1111 is traditionally used for 4 on watches. Lower beat watches need less service and last longer in general. I have the v4 Orient bambino blue. Handwindable and hackable which is great. 21,600 beats. I have a Vostok Amphibia too.19.800 beats. 10 years use without needing a service. 28.600 movements need service every 3 years in general. Take your pick.

Ben Fearnhead (1 year ago)
I have the bambino with baton markers. Not always a fan of Roman numerals and the fact they incorrectly used IIII as 4 instead of IV kind of cheapens the look in my opinion. Otherwise it's a great looking watch and well made bit of genuine horology!
PartiZAn18 (11 months ago)
It's called a Watchmaker's 4, and it's been used for centuries by every brand from Patek to Timex -_-
Geheim Nis (1 year ago)
Very interesting is the fact that it says IIII instead of IV
PartiZAn18 (11 months ago)
Every brand does this. It's called a Watchmaker's 4

good eye!
what is the price?
Patrick B (1 year ago)
Not to criticize you in any way, but to share info with you, the "raised" Logo and Markers are referred too as "Applied." Applied markers, and applied Logo. But be careful, you may turn into a hard core watch guy when you start admiring things like this. :-)
Sanjay C (1 year ago)
+Patrick B, That sounds much better too! Thanks!
Khoo Shi Yrun (1 year ago)
What kind of strap in the video? i liked it.
Sanjay C (1 year ago)
Khoo Shi Yrun it's an Orient strap with a deployment buckle. I purchased it from its previous owner that way. So I don't know where he purchased it.
Joe Sturges (1 year ago)
Curious where you found a 21mm deployment clasp, I have this watch but I can't find one that matches the somewhat-odd width of the band for this watch - looks beautiful!
Sanjay C (1 year ago)
I bought it with the deployment strap. Not sure where the original owner found it.
Mark Bloom (1 year ago)
That was a very good video and I'm glad that I watched it and thanks for it
tipoomaster (1 year ago)
Looks like 5 beats per second, that's not high for a mechanical watch but it's also completely normal/average, not particularly slow for one.
C C (1 year ago)
As a watch snob, I have a couple comments regarding what you "can't tell" from photos. You mentioned being surprised by the crystal. In watch descriptions, when "domed crystal" is mentioned, that is what they are talking about. You then mention "raised markers". Those will be called out in descriptions as "applied indexes". Meaning they are applied onto the dial and not painted on. As for the dial, it's always hard to determine color, especially from stock photos but usually you can find real life photos using the reference number in google images. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Karel Hajek (2 months ago)
indices is correct aswell as indexes
pstcontrl (3 months ago)
C C “marked indices” actually. I’m not a watch snob, just a grammar snob :D. Just f-ing with you mate. I do appreciate the food info

I love the strap that you put on it. A beauty. Where did you get it from, Sanjay? I'm not fond of the one that came with the Bambino I purchased.
thankgodimatheist (1 year ago)
Thank you for a prompt reply, I will.
Sanjay C (1 year ago)
thankgodimatheist I purchased the watch used - the guy I bought it from had installed the strap already. But check out the other comments here. I think someone answered that question.

Please do not worry too much about scatches ,this is a lovely looking watch .

BhBraaq (1 year ago)
I got this exact watch last week. I bought a great light brown leather strap and it looks like it cost over $1000. It's a fantastic watch and the movement is accurate.
Truthfears Guilty (3 months ago)
@bhbraaq -- hey heY HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!. let's not over do on bs. it does not look like a 1000 dollar piece. not even 300 dollar piece. 199 tops it and dont you forget it!
LOrd of bEES (1 year ago)
Ima gonna keep the originl strap, cause its not bad at all, but for sure leather straps dont last the same as th watch, so can you show me your 1.000 dollars strap?
Western Pacific (1 year ago)
Excellent points and a great original perspective, I'm a fan now!
Emmanuel Geraldo (1 year ago)
nice review
Redskins Pride WGIL (1 year ago)
You like the strap? The strap, its odd size, and its low quality, is the only negative I found with this purchase.
LOrd of bEES (1 year ago)
Well that "problem" is very easy to solve, buy another strap... you buy this kind of automatic watch and you dont have money for a strap.?
Marc Myers (1 year ago)
Dying to order one of these! 21mm strap is near impossible to find. I have smaller wrist (6-3/4") Will the factory strap be too long? If I replace it, where is a good source to locate a decent 21mm strap. Hirsch does not seem to make one I like.
Lazonby Bear (1 year ago)
the strap is a Tissot copy . the clasp is exactly the same design 🕟
ConRon (1 year ago)
I wish they would make it smaller, dress watches shouldn't be so big
G Man (27 days ago)
I own this watch, I like it, it’s beautiful but I agree. Most watches should not be over 36mm. Hopefully this fad goes away soon.
Keith Textor (1 month ago)
I like the size, esp for my wrist size (7.75). I've got the 2nd gen Bambino, ver 2 (same as this watch, only I have the white face with rose gold hands). I love this watch. True vintage watches are way too tiny for me. I WOULD pay extra for a saphire crystal however.
Stoney Lonsome (1 month ago)
I have said a million times that if they made a 38 mm bambino with 20 mm lugs and a sapphire crystal, they wouldn't be able to make enough of them. I know they would cost more but, I think most ppl would be willing to pay more to get more- they could keep making these as well.
ichdichhasserwasser (1 month ago)
I disagree. Love the size.
X. Chen (3 months ago)
Precisely, 38mm would be max. 40.5mm makes to watch look cheap.
joe healey (1 year ago)
I'm really surprised you eat shit and complained
Marktuyet (1 year ago)
too bad they don't make it in 37mm ..
JP Davis (1 year ago)
Enjoyed your perspective and style.  Finding out,  after my second online purchase from  US Distributor,  that there usually are more negative surprises to the feel and aesthetics.  Without actually inspecting an Orient in person prior to purchase,  might as well pass.
Seahorse Workshop (1 year ago)
Good job. Good review
Kim Sheng Ting (1 year ago)
the smoothness of the secons hand depends on how many bph or vph the movement operates. Nothing to do with quality. For dress watches u tend to see manufacturers opt for lower beats movement. Even patek philippe make movements that has the sec hand jumps at increments of 4 per second.
X. Chen (3 months ago)
Exactly! Additionally, lower bph results into a more durable movement.
senorkaboom (1 year ago)
So, the movement isn't as smooth as you thought it would be. At 21,600 bps, you will detect some second hand movement. If you want more fluid hand movement, look for a watch with either 28,800 or 36,000 bps. I am sure you'll be much happier, but somewhat lighter in the wallet.
Robert Brandywine (1 year ago)
What do you mean?
Myrslokstok (1 year ago)
senorkaboom Maybee needs moore service then.

Harold Bullock (1 year ago)
If your fretting that your watch does not have "hand wind" feature, you shouldn't sweat it. . I never considered hand wind an upgrade and still believe that hand wind feature on an automatic is a waste of money. In the morning when I decide which watch to wear I just put it on and after 20 or 30 minutes there is enough charge on the spring and I just set the time and the date. There is an exception to my rule I will admit. I have a friend who has a desk job and is not athletic so an automatic watch on her wrist never winds. She must manually wind it. But for the rest of us I think manual wind is just a waste.
rrpostalagain (1 year ago)
Harold Bullock How stagnant must you be that you don't wind a watch? I have a desk job, but I still move. Does she type one handed?
Oos Depok (1 year ago)
very helpful thanks
Tomasina Covell (1 year ago)
Too fake vintage, should have a fully hacking and handwindable movement, possibly unobtainable replacement crystal. I really think the manufacturers don't get that when people say they want something with a more "vintage" or "classic" look they're speaking about the designs not the agements, distressing that something truly old would have. Like when I try and find a replica of a Rolex 6835 Submariner you can only find them with dials that have caramel colored old looking dial lume, I want it to look all fresh not as if it was older than my parents.
Chris Dermody (1 year ago)
Generation 2 does have hacking and winding. Check their website
Fierce Krypton (1 year ago)
Tomasina Covell it's just a cream colored dial, relax.

Tomasina Covell all that just to hate? damn man what are you doing with your life 😂
Jarl Ballin' (1 year ago)
I have this watch and love it, but the strap is garbage...
LOrd of bEES (1 year ago)
for the money you payed for the watch what do you wanted, a 500 dollars strap?? you people are just ignorant. buy a 4.000 dollars royal orient, you will have no claims or wahtever with straps or anything
JP Davis (1 year ago)
+Jarl -  Just unboxed the Orient 4 Bambino Blue,  first thing I did is toss the  strap in the  trash.  They might as well sell the watches without a strap or bracelet.
JP Davis (1 year ago)
+Issac - the straps are beyond mierda
Dirty Mota (1 year ago)
Jarl Ballin' orient straps are basura
rrpostalagain (1 year ago)
Jarl Ballin' I was just commenting above that every Orient I've ever had comes with embarrassing straps. They may as well come without straps, it would improve the brand. So I find it difficult to believe this would be different. The watched themselves are amazing for the money and I still have my monarch.
Josh lee (1 year ago)
Do you know where I can get a band like that
Bilal Agha (20 days ago)
https://www.holbensfinewatchbands.com
LOrd of bEES (1 year ago)
they are stiif, but for the price i think they are ok..not pretty bad, i dont care cause they dont last forever, ..so next time buy a real crocodile leather strap, if you can effort it.
senorkaboom (1 year ago)
Josh lee I have 2 Bambinos and on both of them I have removed the original strap and replaced it with a butterfly deployant buckle strap. The leather on the replacement strap is more flexible and not as shiny. The original straps are very stiff and, quite frankly, look chintzy.
Josh lee (1 year ago)
i just received mine and noticed the strap on this new model looks like the one in the video
rrpostalagain (1 year ago)
Sanjay Christo usually, the straps are horrible on Orients. I have changed them out on day one every time.
Redskins Pride WGIL (1 year ago)
I wanted this watch the first time I saw it! I almost settled for a different model when I found the new version for sale. This watch gets a lot of attention and a lot of compliments. Orient hit one out the park with this one.
Watches Galore (1 year ago)
Orient is such a class act and high quality for the coin!! Great vid and nice watch for sure! I have the Saturation diver!👍
