Why does Autism need to be treated?
olivia 333 (6 months ago)
Whilst all humans deserve love and respect and have equal value, as someone who works with autistic children, I firmly believe that if the rates of this condition keep going up, our society is doomed. Most of these kids won't work, and many need round the clock care. It's not a normal way to be, and should not be accepted as such.
Terry H. (9 days ago)
You're the exact type of SNA I hated as a child. Do the kids a favour and get a different profession. They'll blossom much better without someone like you.

With the huge increase of ASD there is a cause. The cause needs to be resolved. I believe it’s not a birth defect and not a genetic disorder but something causes it . I believe things can help but not cure. I would greatly suggest people look at vaccines. It’s the only factor that has increased and changed since increase of autism. Heck when you inject African green monkey, aborted fetal tissue, mercury and aluminum into humans it can change the dna and cause permanent damage by breaking the blood brain barrier. These things also can cause allergies, ticks, intellectual disability, etc. There won’t be a cure as long as people are injecting these foreign matters into their bodies. FDA and CDC make too much money in vaccines to find a cure.

Has there been a test with l glutamine and people with asd? I am highly sensive and in a way they look a bit alike. The bit that its so difficult to filter all impressions that we get. Using the l glutamine has improved my filter and made my life a lot easier.

They say the gut is the second brain so I would love to see double blind studies of using a whole food plant based diet to treat autism. I work with kids on the spectrum and they all seem to be addicted to junk food. I wonder if that has something to do with the severity or the overall case. When my son was diagnosed with autism I never considered diet as a treatment because no one ever told me it could be a factor. If I could go back and try it I would. However, I found The Son Rise treatment worked really well. He is 19, a recent graduate and working. He is about to try for his drivers license and getting ready to move out soon. I only wish he would eat better.

Lynn Stewart Just for clarification, I'm not sure what parts of my comment are because of my autism and what parts are because I'm just strange in general. Keep that in mind. Although you should already be familiar with that if you work with autistic children.

Rendom Stranger Thanks for the reply. It’s always nice to get a detailed response from someone in the know. I will look further into this so I can better help the kids I work with.
Rendom Stranger (7 months ago)
Lynn Stewart From my experience, there is a simple reason that I eat more junk food than the average person. I personally burn through my energy at a very fast pace. The result is that I consume a lot of sugar to keep my energy up. Normal food simply doesn't cut it for the entire day because my body can't get enough energy out of it. At least not with just 3 meals a day and a fourth meal would fill me up to much when I'm not actively working. Another thing is that my body makes it very clear what type of food I need at any given point in time. When my body needs something healthy, it tells me. When my body needs salt, it tells me. And when my body needs sugar, it tells me. Ignoring this will simply result in me feeling bad. The only stuff my body doesn't need is fat. The moment I cut high fat foods from my diet I started feeling a lot better, as I always had a massive down after eating fat. That being said, another reason many people with autism like junk food might be because of that down. It gives us a moment where our brain slows down. A moment where we can simply lay back and do nothing without having our brain go crazy. The best way to deal with that is by either channelling the wasted energy into something useful or by simple giving us something lazy that our brain can focus on like watching videos. And when I say useful, I mean something that the person with autism is invested in. So no, don't bother dictating what useful. Instead, look together for something enjoyable.

Autism cannot be "treated" any more than one can treat blue eyes or homosexuality. There is no "cure" for autism because it is not a disease. People do not "have autism:" they are born autistic.

Hello Dr. Michael Greger. Ich hope you are well. I have a important question about a health issue of my little doughter Hannah (7 years old). She have laryngeal papillomatosis and we don't know what to do. I take research on many books and the internet but I couldn't find anything which help us. Her mother and me live separated and Hannah is visiting me 2-3 times a week. On my opinion a whole food plant based diet could maybe help her a lot but her mother thinks that this kind of diet isn't healthy.Unfortunately she says her opinion to Hannah and she is confused what to believe. I am vegan for 5 years and when Hannah is visiting me she gets vegan meals (green smoothies, rice, beans, lentiles,advocadoes...). I take also care about Vitamin B12, Vitamin D Levels and ratio of Omegaa3/Omega 6. But the situation is getting more and more difficulty for me as a dad because Hannah believes more and more what her mother is tolding her. Have you any experience with this kind of health issue and study's that show, that a plant based diet help? Is their any food which maybe could increases the growth of the laryngeal papillomatosis (dairy products because of increasing igf1 levels?). I don't know what to do. Can you maybe help me? My email address is: [email protected] Faithfully Matthias Beer

0:55 What’s wrong with social withdrawal? I had to go through years of being told to be sociable and join in as a child, until I was old enough to please myself and stop being sociable and joining in. I only do social stuff under sufferance and have learned to accept it as “something other people seem to like doing”. I don’t have a problem with other people enjoying socializing but not everyone wants that. It’s all normal.

https://www.newsweek.com/2018/02/23/really-good-weed-why-cannabis-may-be-worlds-most-effective-remedy-core-806758.html Is Marijuana the World’s Most Effective Treatment for Autism? It’s morning in Nahariya, a tiny Israeli town near the Lebanese border, and 4-year-old Benjamin is repeatedly smashing his head against the wall. He spins wildly in circles, screeching at full volume. As his mother tries frantically to calm him, he pulls down his pants and defecates on the floor. When they leave their apartment, Benjamin wrestles free of her hand and nearly runs into oncoming traffic. Sharon attempts a trip to the supermarket but leaves before she finishes shopping because her son is screaming while he picks up items and throws them to the floor. That was in October 2016, and typical of most days at the time. Sharon, a single mother who moved to Israel from the United States one year earlier, was alone and losing control. Benjamin was taking Ritalin, a drug usually associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which he did not have. He’d also tried the antipsychotic ziprasidone and a mix of antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs. None of them helped, and he often became more hyperactive as they wore off. All that changed a year ago, when Benjamin started taking marijuana. In the little apartment he shares with his mother, mornings are now relaxed and orderly. His transformation may signal the arrival of a long-awaited and desperately needed healing for the many others just like him: children living with severe autism.

Any alternative treatment I try for my son has been run through my own standard of efficacy. I ask other parents, I talk to my son's biomedical/integrative specialist sometimes, but the one thing that is the catalyst for inclusion is failure. If a study has been performed for vitamin B6 or Carnosine or Sulphurophase supplementation, I look for the failures. If they say that only a certain percentage were recovered, then another percentage had some improvement, then another percentage didn't improve at all, then I will try it. It feels honest to me. Also, knowing not to treat with one supplement alone. These treatments that the body should make or that should come from the foods our kids refuse to eat work in tandem with other nutrients. They should neve be given alone. It will cause more harm than good.

Autism is HUGELY impacted by excito-toxins in our foods including "natural flavors", "spices", "seasonings", "citric acid", "yeast extract" and many others that they use nowadays, to make sure we become addicted to food, which are all code for M.S.G.or glutamic acid. Look what this PhD biochemist Mom found happened to her autistic daughter after she removed all grocery items with this exito-toxin from her diet. Note the before and after behavior. Then see how much of the food we buy has it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jJj9W4uF_4&t=146s Not only that but it affects ALL mental nervous disorders and many other conditions.

Is it any wonder why parents distrust pharma when treating their autistic child, when it was a pharma product that is responsible for them being autistic? All treatments should be subjected to the rigor of well-designed, double -blind, placebo controlled clinical trials? Why? Vaccines aren't. There are NO studies on vaccine safety. Just ask the NIH, whose job it is to provide these studies. They've never done any.

Yeah we all need our kids to be Lab Rats and all those who want to test chemicals let's all just that's some poor innocent animal because well they don't matter it's better if they die then a human right? Common Sense dictates address digestive issues which are directly connected to imbalances in the brain duh nobody here ever heard of gaps minus the animal products? You don't need to go through a middleman to get what you want that's like stabbing somebody along the way to find your treasure just because they happen to be on your path makes no sense but then I find most men don't make any sense and the ones that are in medicine make less sense now let's talk about it you're not a doctor your medicine man what is a medicine man he writes prescriptions he gives inoculations he gives vaccines he he he he he he is nothing more than a mad scientist who needs proof of something that already exists because he's a non-believer there's your science nature doesn't need proof the Ancients and the tribal communities that exist and operate the way they always have don't need proof the proof comes from experimentation with plant medicines and most of them are not dangerous the ones that are they've learned not to mess with and the ones that do are looking to Trump God. This isn't a religious statement this is a fact

Please check out the Nemechek Protocol for Autism (NP). Google it or check out my posts on this page. My 7yo son has had MAJOR gains and is a very different child (he has been on the protocol for about 8 months now). It is a very SIMPLE, inexpensive protocol (NO doctors visits, NO expensive tests, NO huge supplement lists, etc). There are many success stories on the NP blog and a FaceBook support page. I highly encourage you to look it up. It is new and a major game changer for those with Autism. I have been down the frustrating road of not finding any answers before discovering this protocol (I have no affiliation with it). You can read about it and do it WITHOUT PAYING ANY MONEY. https://www.nemechekconsultativemedicine.com/blog/reversing-autism-2017/

I remember hearing about secretin years ago when I was in a parent group run by Doctors and Nurses whose children had Autism. It was a biological treatment based group. I was trying to learn the cause of my sons Autism. The mad dash for secretin meant that only these professionals could obtain it, and there were shortages of secretin for several years after. I wanted to try the secretin patch on my son, but could never obtain it. However, after some trial and error, we found things that worked for my son and he is now doing very well. I agree with some on the spectrum that Autism is a different way of being in the world. However, many of the symptoms are related to illness associated with it. Working to deal with the health issues helped my son and several others to minimize some of the most inconvenient behaviors and symptoms. I think that forcing a child or adult to "act normal" when their symptoms are caused by pain and discomfort, and illness is abusive. We tried risperdol and it caused a ton of side effects. A friends son gained so much weight so rapidly that both his ankles collapsed and he had to have ankle surgery on both legs. I think that psychoactive drugs used for Autism are mostly just sedatives, and they can cause permanent brain damage when used long term. And they do nothing to address the cause of it or cure any associated illness. Drugging them risks damping down their inherent positive characteristics in favor of just making them appear to be more easily managed. They can, in effect, be used as chemical straight jackets. My son was enrolled in research because there was no other evidence-based treatment available at the time. This was a behavior modification program. It seemed to work like a rehabilitation treatment after a stroke works; tons of practice and repetition. After 5 1/2 years, ABA taught him to speak, but he still had odd behaviors, obsessions, anxiety, insomnia, irrational fears, food aversions, meltdowns, hand flapping, selective hearing, exaggerated startle reflexes, aversion to loud noises and bright lights. All these things went away with the alternative things we did. I tend to really listen when doctors who have children with autism find things that really work. A lot of the things that have helped us came from parents getting together and funding research or sending their pediatrician to trainings on evidence based modalities. You never know what is going to work until you try it. I didn't want to wait 20 years for the definitive double-blind controlled study to come out, since at the time it was believed that early intervention, before age 5, when the language window of the brain closes, was imperative. It's sad that it is now 20 years later and we are no closer to any consensus about what causes autism or what to do about it, and certainly, no official cure in sight. I really liked the newsletter that was published by Dr. Bernard Rimland, himself a parent of a child with autism, that was a synopsis of all the available research and studies at the time. It included the references to the actual research studies. It seemed well edited and it was not dependent on industry funding. I think, in general, parents are after the truth, and don't care what the latest fads are, they just want relief for their children and families. I, personally, think prevention is the best option. However, those that are funding exclusively research on genetics scare me because discovering the genes could lead to mass abortion of fetuses with certain genetic markers. I'm not for the genocide of an entire genetic line of susceptible people. Furthermore the several genes that have been linked to autism have all been on the immune system. Which I think means that we have an environmental cause, a man-made cause. There is no such thing as a genetic epidemic. When my son was diagnosed, he was an oddity. It was very rare, a 1 in 5,000 occurrence. I felt very alone, my son was misunderstood, and bullied. I had to go to take special training to learn how to manage my son. However, I don't feel any better now that there is 1 in 60 children with Autism. Genetic mutations don't happen that fast. Blaming faulty genes just points the smoking gun - the evidence we choose to look at - at the victims of whatever caused this, and if we continue to do that, we will never find a cure, or an effective treatment, if the cause still remains.

So, that was one drug, and it was an interesting example. However, you started the video saying that diet and nutritional components were the most common alternatives. Have any of those been "put to the test?" (Ketogenic diet, for example.)

The ketogenic diet for children? Well, it has been used to treat intractable epilepsy in children for almost a hundred years. However, a 20% rate of serious complications doesn't sound good https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1198735/

As a parent of a child with autism, I don't understand the drive for a cure. These kids aren't broken! They're highly gifted beautiful, wonderful people! Yet the goals of all the therapies and teachers I've known seem to be conformity. Get the kids to start acting like everyone else. No! Not gonna happen. Why can't we just accept people as they are? Autism has always been around. If we keep rushing to weed autism out of the human race, we're going to end up 'curing' the next Einstein right out of existence.

+Rendom Stranger Thanks for taking the time to respond. I have looked into loads of scientific literature in addition to listening to countless lectures as well as browsing the forums on the subject of ASD. The purpose behind asking you was the desire to speak to a living/breathing person(s), who could possibly shed the light on how a person w/ the AS experiences the world, and that's the sort of a connection that's impossible to make via a scientific, objective, cold research/population studies. I realize it's a lot to ask of someone to whom I'm a complete, random stranger (as your username suggests:)). So again, thanks for responding. Take care.
Rendom Stranger (22 days ago)
+Anya Izmailova I don't really have the time or interest to answer questions about myself. So no, I won't be doing that. If you are looking for advice on how to deal with autism, I recommend looking online for resources/organizations and checking what people have to say about them before using/contacting them. If you are just after information, I recommend setting up a survey. And if you just want to get into contact with people who have autism, there are a lot of meeting places for people with autism. Both online and in person.

Rendom Stranger Also, often the counselor will "code" for insurance under autism to get the insurance payment approved even though they might not yet know any true diagnosis of the child.
Rendom Stranger (7 months ago)
Dan Hartman Wrong. There aren't specific symptoms of autism. It's called a spectrum for a reason. While medical science has gotten better at figuring out what symptoms correlate to autism, there still isn't a perfect way to tell if someone does in fact has autism. Add in the fact that plenty of psychologists make mistakes and their own bias and it's easy to see why a misdiagnosis of autism is common. And I don't need to ask a parent about hiding the symptoms of autism. I can just ask myself. Because in case it isn't clear yet, I have autism. And for most of my life, I have in fact been taught to hide the symptoms of my autism. Ranging from voice training to what behaviours are and aren't normal. So when a person is already an edge case, there is a very high chance that taught behaviour allows them to hide their autism well enough during a visit to a psychologist. Especially because I can tell from experience that I act very differently in a business oriented setting than I do in a private setting. Oh, and learn how medical studies work. The reason there is no double blind study about smoking is because no benefit can be gained from such a study. Needless harm is flat out forbidden during scientific studies. Dietary treatments against autism on the other hand would be beneficial, and as a result would easily be approved. As for there being no funding, that is just another lie. Entire governments would be willing to fund such a study as it costs a fortune in tax dollars to help people like me get a job and survive until I have a job. If your proposed treatment really were beneficial, I would probably have already heard about it. And if its to recent to have heard about it, its also to recent to call it reliable. I'm not interested in fad chasing. Until something is reliably proven, I'm not interested. I'll admit though that I misspoke when it comes to the cause of autism. It's true that autism is caused by a mixture of genetic and external factors and I should have thought about this when making my comment. Shame that your argument didn't stop at "autism is caused by external factors". Your claim is that autism has preventable causes. The reality of the situation though is that we have no idea what external factors cause autism, and they might not be preventable in the first place as they might be changes in the body, the air someone breathes, etc. So your claim that autism can be prevented is simply baseless. And I can say with certainty that even if it wasn't, you don't know how to prevent it.
Desertphile (7 months ago)
"And that is ignoring the people who have learned to hide the symptoms of their autism." Your entire comment is excellent, and thank you. Many verbal autistic people are indeed excellent mimics, and mask their symptoms by constantly and endlessly acting "typical" in public and family life. This is exhausting and it cannot be maintained forever.

Would love for someone to help me get my Autistic son to eat a plant based diet. He refuses to eat anything from a plant. I have tried everything. My son is beyond picky when it comes to food. So much so if i cut his sandwich the wrong way he won't eat it. I know what he needs to eat heck i NEED to eat the same things, but getting him to eat it?? That is the problem.
Terry H. (9 days ago)
I'm an autistic vegan adult and was also extremely picky as a child. I think it's important that when it comes to autism, it's less what you feed us but how you feed it to us. Try to find a few vegan food he likes and stick with them, don't throw in fancy ingredients. Stay away from foods with strong smells and textures. Have food look "neat", avoid different food touching each other, for example if You're feeding him potatoes and brussel sprouts, have them be on separate plates. Another thing is he might dislike the diet for reasons unrelated to autism. Animal fat, caesomorphines, salt, oil, etc. Are very addictive to anyone. That's tougher to deal with. The best way to adjust someone's tastebuds is to have them fast but I think it might be difficult to do that ethically with a child.

I’m not a doctor, but some autism seems to be triggered by vaccinations. Amy Lansky, who is a doctor, wrote a book about how her son developed autism after being vaccinated, and how he was cured through homeopathy. Very interesting. A ray of hope in a very dark subject perhaps.

Nat Daniels, That is a very truthful comment, especially the last sentence.
Nat Daniels (6 months ago)
My brother suddenly became deaf after being vaccinated as a child (his is a nerve deafness). My good friend nearly died and has been in and out of hospital for the past 18 months with paralysis from the flu vaccine (Guillain Barre syndrome - which is noted as a possible side effect on flu vaccine leaflets). So both are neurological issues definitely caused by the vaccines. No vaccine is guaranteed to be completely safe or free from possible injury or death to the patient. People that think vaccines are safe aren't doing their due diligence; they're just blindly trusting in the system - a system that's inherently flawed.
Ensoa Александр (7 months ago)
cjodyssey, The little detail that you are missing, my friend, is that people *notice, very distinctly* all kind of neurological, metabolic and any other possible problems (including autistic traits) *right after* a vaccine was administered.
cjodyssey (7 months ago)
Please consider: Children receive vaccinations throughout childhood, from birth til adulthood, primitive social skills arise around the first 12-24 months, autism is a social disorder. Again vaccines are given from birth til adulthood (including the social development range). There is no causal association here. Its like blaming Swing dance music for the advent of the third reich

I would implore any parent of a child on the Autism spectrum to check out the NEMECHEK PROTOCOL for Autism. There are so many unprecedented recoveries going on with this new protocol, including my own son. My son has been on the protocol for about 8 months now and the changes have been HUGE! Daily MELTDOWNS - GONE! He used to immediately cover his ears with ANY loud noise - NOT ANY MORE. He now PLAYS WITH OTHER KIDS (not just playing near other kids). His school want to DROP him from some of the special education services he's been receiving, but no longer needs (that's a good thing). He truly acts like a different kid than he was 8 months ago and CONTINUES TO PERMANENTLY IMPROVE every day/week/month. This protocol is SIMPLE - NO expensive doctor visits, NOT a huge pile of supplements daily (been there, done that with him, but not any more), NO expensive tests, etc. You can get more FREE info about this by Google-ing 'Nemechek Protocol Autism'. The doctor has generously put an easy to understand summary of the protocol on his website blog and also has a great, inexpensive book with more details. IMPORTANTLY, he explains the CAUSE of the developmental differences in our kids - and how to suppress the causes, that then lead to RESTORING proper Neurological function (you can read the details on his blog or more in his book). I emphasize that this is NOT a 'quick fix' - this simply allows the brain to properly develop/heal itself (by removing the CAUSE) and thus improvements will slowly but surely come. Besides buying his inexpensive book, I have no affiliation whatsoever to this doc/protocol and he is NOT selling any expensive supplements, visits, etc (no conflict of interest). I have spent thousands of hours of research, over the last couple years of my life, finding out everything I can about ASD and I know what a frustrating situation it can be. I have given my son a 'pile' of supplements, taken him to a very expensive supposed 'specialist' doctor (was very well intentioned, but didn't get my son permanently better like the Nemechek Protocol has) and had him on a GFCFSF diet (which he is now off after healing a few months on the protocol). Unfortunately, because it is new and so cheap and who's going to fund it?, there are no current double blind studies, so Dr. Greger will not likely report on this, but this is real. Check out the tons of people telling their success stories on his blog and the couple Facebook groups. To quickly summarize the protocol (read the blog and/or book for more details please), my son (who is currently 7yo, almost 8) takes DHA (fish oil), Inulin fiber and some EVOO (olive oil) every day - SIMPLE AS THAT (hard to believe, but true)! The only other main restrictions are no high Omega 6 vegetable oils (no soybean oil, etc) and absolutely NO probiotics (this was actually the key that brought me onboard this protcol as when I gave my son probiotics, as told by my DAN Doctor, my son's behavior actually got WORSE - read the book/blog, it explains why)! My son is on NO prescription drugs and no other restrictions (ok, full disclosure, I give my son some broccoli sprouts in a smoothie daily as per another video by Dr Greger, but I don't believe this is related to the major gains he has seen, just a healthy, helpful start to his day). An unprecedented miracle has happened to my son. It is possible. This is 100% real. I'm not selling anything here. I was not sure if my son would ever 'leave the nest' (I love my son dearly and would care for him as long as needed), but I wish a 'normal' happy life for him, not dependent on anyone. A year ago, before finding this protocol, I did not have any realistic hope he would have that 'normal' life, but now I see it happening. Every day is a miracle for me. There is nothing more I could want than the amazing gains I have seen in my son. https://www.nemechekconsultativemedicine.com/blog/reversing-autism-2017/

Risa Fey Yes, yes, yes! I had such a similar experience with my anxiety/paranoia/delusions. After going plant based I’ve been able to not just go out more but get so much more done. I’ve gotten things done in just the last year that I struggled with for the last 15. This has helped me be more confident. Internally it feels like some jagged edge my entire psyche was constantly grinding against has softened. The other big improvement is less intrusive thoughts. I don’t feel like I did before my onset, but I feel better and far more grounded than I have since I was 19. I didn’t even go plant based for my mental health but because of a stomach problem! I’ll stop here but like you I could go on and on. Please spread the word. We might not be as hopeless as everyone thinks! Sending you much love Risa. ❤️

Plastic and Neuroprotective Mechanisms Involved in the Therapeutic Effects of Cannabidiol in Psychiatric Disorders. Campos AC1, Fogaça MV1, Scarante FF1, Joca SRL2, Sales AJ2, Gomes FV3, Sonego AB1, Rodrigues NS1, Galve-Roperh I4,5, Guimarães FS1. Author information Abstract Beneficial effects of cannabidiol (CBD) have been described for a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including anxiety, psychosis, and depression. The mechanisms responsible for these effects, however, are still poorly understood. Similar to clinical antidepressant or atypical antipsychotic drugs, recent findings clearly indicate that CBD, either acutely or repeatedly administered, induces plastic changes. For example, CBD attenuates the decrease in hippocampal neurogenesis and dendrite spines density induced by chronic stress and prevents microglia activation and the decrease in the number of parvalbumin-positive GABA neurons in a pharmacological model of schizophrenia. More recently, it was found that CBD modulates cell fate regulatory pathways such as autophagy and others critical pathways for neuronal survival in neurodegenerative experimental models, suggesting the potential benefit of CBD treatment for psychiatric/cognitive symptoms associated with neurodegeneration. These changes and their possible association with CBD beneficial effects in psychiatric disorders are reviewed here. KEYWORDS: anxiety; autophagy; cannabinoids; depression; neurogenesis; schizophrenia; synaptic remodeling.

Autistic patients tend to have an unique microbiome, defined and distictive among the general population. I've read that theyr dysbiosis could be corrected with the use of probiotics, prebiotics and FMT; but only a microbial profilling before and after the adninistration of these treatments, along with psychological and neurological assessment, could prove real benefit on those patients.
Desertphile (7 months ago)
Catalina Navarro, indeed it is important to acknowledge the fact that neurodiversity exists, regardless of being "embraced" by neuro-typical people. We know some of the genetic causes of autism (many of the genes that have been implicated in autism are involved in the regulation of chromatin). As you noted, there are ethics involved; if humanity no longer had autistic people, humanity would lose a huge percentage of geniuses and polymaths.

Idylchatter I didn't found anything there, maybe it is for my regional config. Anyway I have visited theyr webpage... lots of suplements. Sure it is a good bussiness!. Thanks to dr. Greger I know that everthing our bodies require is found on the vegetal kingdom. I've recently learned that my Raynaud s. could be improved eating green leaf vegetables. I've been lacking them on my diet, so there is a good explanation for my itchy right little finger.
Catalina Navarro (7 months ago)
Desertphile Thanks for your comment. I didn't intended to label ASD as a disease, but as you said, a developmental disorder. I strongly apreciate the neurodiversity of human species, however if some detrimental neurodevelopmental disorders can be screened and corrected throught microbial therapy, improving a person's perceived quality of life, we really could begin to de-label them as "autistic"; they are distinct just because they inherited a distinct set of microbes and that shapes their brain uniquely. I strongly think that we all deserve the care needed for a healthy, fullfilling and conected life. I understand that this issue is very difficult to adress in terms of bioethics.

And Dr Greger is probably as sceptical about conventional medicine as you are, cause his reason to go to medical school and read the outcomes of nutritional studies, is cause doctors sent his grandma off to die after giving her 3 by-pass surgeries and calling her disease untreatable, whereas Mr Pritikin had her out of her wheelchair in less than a month by putting her on a low-fat whole plant-based diet. For somebody who seems to be so patronizing of Dr Greger and his work, you're definitely about as fanatic at commenting on his videos as I am, I hope you know the youtube algorithm sees that as user engagement and will thus rank his videos higher, so good job Mr RWS!

i cant explain why that is but somehow the foods maintain their properties when they r uncooked for example rice is very dry, therefore even if u cook it it will dry u out less so with something like a potato (i suppose) thats poor explanation and u can easily proof me wrong if u want, but its what i find in myself over and over again and also the less water percentage i have the less happy i feel so cooked food is a nono for me it sounds unscientific but it true for me at least u can try raw foods if u want and tell me if ur water bodypercentage increases too (obviously if u eat tons of dry nuts it wont work ehh ;p)

i was replying to the estrogen guy and i was talking about how cooked foods will decrease ur bodywaterpercentage (okay its actually not the cookedness, its the food sources which r generally drying) if u get past 64% or so u can squirt! even as a guy its lul but if u eat starches and all that bullcrap ull be just dehydrated internally without knowing it u can check waterpercentage with most scales optimal waterpercentage for men is >66% - for women its less but i dont know how much less

Speaking as an Autistic adult, the reason the drugs, and other treatments, don't work, is because - and I can not stress this enough - Autism is not a disease! It is a developmental difference. There is no "cure". The Autistic brain is wired differently. Some drugs or therapies can, potentially, help with easing certain symptoms, such as anxiety, but there is no "cure". As much as 'Autism Speaks' (an organisation which no-one I know, who is on the spectrum, supports - some of whom have even voiced their objections regarding the organisation's ethics and approach) seems to wish there was. All this talk about "curing" autism just serves to deepen the stigma surrounding it.

Daniel Rose It is a disorder of modern society. Just like high sugar, low fat diets are.... 1 + 1 = 2
Daniel Rose (7 months ago)
In terms of health, boron is a key element and has been reduced. Same with iodine and selenium. How they fit into the autism picture though is not clear. The biggest factor seems to be toxins (this includes all medicines). Those who avoid all these things avoid autism pretty much all together. Autism is clearly a disease of modern society, regardless of how much the medical establishment would protest that statement.
Peter Faber (7 months ago)
Daniel Rose Cool explanation. I like that. What you are focussing on are the mechanisms involved with the development of the disorder. I think that these developmental disorders have many mechanisms and nos single mechanism can be pinpointed as the holy grail of autism. It is a combination of many factors and for sure, certain toxins do make things worse. I'm more focused on understanding what factors are involved. I think that things like toxins and genetics play a role, but many people with the same factors do not get autism. So there must be another factor involved as well. Somehow, all those risk factors can be neutralized. I think that under normal healthy circumstances, human biology knows how to deal with those risks. And the only factors left that we can control are diet and sun exposure. Sun exposure, meaning vitamin D is huge. We think vitamin D is just important for calcium management, but in fact, vitamin D regulates just about everything cells do. And besides all the mineral and other vitamins, fat is a huge factor as well. I'm focusing on vitamin D and fat because those 2 we have been reducing in the last 50 years. This correlation is very strong. Obviously the increase of sugar in the diet is also a factor. But not so much because of eating more sugar but because it replaced fat. In healthy vegan diets fat doesn't get replaced with sugar. It gets replaced with whole food carb sources. That's ok, though I still think many vegans should eat a little bit more fat for optimum health
Daniel Rose (7 months ago)
In NJ for male children, the chance for autism is 1 in 25. That is not a rare disease. There is a lot of industry and pollution there, so it correlates very well. I agree that lack of proper nutrition is a factor for sure. Allithiamine has been shown to be helpful for some. I was going to point that out, but forgot. Anyway, methylation is another aspect of autism that involves impaired ability of the body to rid itself of toxins: "Ninety percent of children diagnosed with autism have demonstrated methylation impairment. Metals like lead and mercury can further damage the body’s ability to methylate DNA. Methylation IS the process of development." http://treatautism.ca/2015/03/31/autism-and-methylation-are-you-helping-to-repair-your-childs-methylation-cycle/ This is a genetic / epigenetic problem related to an inability to deal with toxic load and / or is made worse with the presence of toxins.
Peter Faber (7 months ago)
Low Carb High Fat seems to improve autism in milder cases. (Google it to find information based on research) Which makes sence. The brain is mostly fat, so fat will improve brain maintenance and efficiency.

I'm sure there'll be plenty who will call it an unreliable source because of that but it's the complete opposite in my opinion. Honesty is much more trustworthy than stubborn views despite there being clear evidence 😁👍, and ye not exactly a u-turn, maybe wrong wording there but anyway...
